Experimental Study on the Performance of Screw Compressor with Various Shapes of Air End (에어엔드 형상변화에 따른 스크류 압축기 성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The performance of screw air compressor is affected by rotor profile, lobe number, air end wrap angle, rotor L/D ratio, suction and discharge ports, revolutions of air end and load regulation control, etc. In general, an efficient screw compressor needs a rotor profile of which has a large flow cross-section area, short sealing lines and a small blow-hole. In this study, experimental study was performed with newly designed $5{\times}6$ rotor profile and various shapes of air end. Results show that the measured specific power consumption of the newly designed screw compressor appeared to be lower than any other published data for the equivalent screw compressors manufactured.

  • Numerical analyses of two-stage turbopump turbines were conducted. One of the candidates for the 1st rotor was selected based on the result of the numerical investigation. Besides, the effects of the stator height on the turbine performance were studied. Finally, the performance of the entire two-stage turbine was predicted by numerical calculation. The result showed that the two-stage turbine produces more specific power than a one-stage turbine.

  • 최근 환경 및 에너지 문제가 자동차 산업의 중요한 이슈로 인식되면서 하이브리드 자동차(Hybrid Electric Vehicle) 기술과 연료 전지 자동차(Fuel Cell Vehicle)등이 주목받고 있다. 특히 하이브리드 자동차는 요구되는 동력과 생성되는 동력의 차이 때문에 순시 동력 저장 장치 (peak power buffer)가 필요한데, 반복적인 충/방전 싸이클에서 용량의 감소 없이 높은 단위 질량당의 동력과 에너지를 가지며 부피, 효율, 수명 면에서도 우수한 플라이 휠 에너지 저장장치가 이러한 동력 저장 장치로 적합하다. 본 논문은 하이브리드 자동차를 위한 플라이 휠 에너지 저장 장치의 현 상태 (state of art)를 기술한다. 첫번째로, 플라이 휠 에너지 저장장치의 기원과 배경을 설명한다. 두 번째로 하이브리드 자동차를 위한 플라이 휠 에너지 저장 장치의 세부 사항을 요약하고, 플라이 휠 에너지 저장을 이용한 하이브리드 자동차의 예와 플라이 휠 에너지 저장장치의 설계 쟁점과 자동차에 적용시키기 위한 최근 기술적 진보를 논의한다. 마지막으로, 플라이 휠 에너지 저장장치의 파급 효과와 다른 적용 예를 소개한다.

  • Recently worldwide concern and research is being actively conducted on green energy which can reduce environmental pollution. A plant such as the natural rapeseed oil, soybean oil, palm, etc. is used as a bio source in home and industry. Biofuels is a sustainable fuel having economically benefits and decreasing environmental pollution problems caused due to fossil fuel, and it can be applied to the conventional diesel engine without changing the existing institutional structure. Waste vegetable oil contains a high cetane number and viscosity component, the low carbon and oxygen content. A lot of research is progressing about the conversion of waste vegetable oil as renewable clean energy. In this study, waste oil was prepared to waste cooking oil generated from the living environment, and applied to diesel engine to confirm the possibility and cost-effectiveness of biodiesel blend waste oil. As a result, brake specific fuel consumption and NOx was increased, carbon monoxide and soot was decreased.

An Investigation on Combustion Characteristics of The Closed Cycle Diesel Engine (폐회로 디젤엔진의 연소특성에 관한 고찰)

  • In order to obtain underwater or underground power sources, the closed cycle diesel engine is operated in the non air-breathing circuit system where the major species of the working fluid include oxygen, argon, and recycled exhaust gas. In the present study, the closed cycle diesel engine is designed to operate at the intake pressure between 2 and 3 bar. For operating in the open-cycle and closed-cycle situations, experimental apparatus using this diesel engine is made with ACAP as data acquisition system. In open, semi-open, and closed cycle modes, the predicted p-$\theta$ and P-V are compared with load bank power. Computation have been performed for wide range of major experimental parameters such as the specific fuel and oxygen concentrations, fuel conversion efficiency and polytropic exponent, IMEP and maximum cylinder pressure.

  • In this study, the engine performance data was extracted and analyzed through the flight test of Smart UAV which is tilt rotor aircraft. The flight test was conducted for the transition flight regime where the tilt angle of prop-rotor varies from 90 degree to 0 degree and vice versa. The engine performance data such as engine power and specific fuel consumption gathered from flight tests were compared well with the results of engine performance analysis program.

Phone Case using the EBG Structure for Reducing SAR (EBG 구조를 사용한 전자파 인체 흡수 차단 휴대폰 케이스)

  • This paper investigates the performance of phone case with different permittivities like plastic, urethane and silicone. Then, we put an electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structure in phone case to reduce the specific absorption rate (SAR). In order to design the phone case, a loop antenna for PCS 1900 band was used. The phone case consists of a hairpin-like EBG structure that is more compact than other EBG structures. The SEMCAD X fdtd simulation results showed that, this proposed phone case can reduce SAR by 13 - 30% at similar power that is radiated by the antenna. This phone case can be used in future to reduce the SAR from mobile phones.

  • The component reliability database is required in PSA (Probabilistic Safety Analysis) for NPP (Nuclear Power Plant). We have applied a generic database to the PSA for the Korean NPPs, since there is no specific component reliability database. Therefore we are developing the plant-specific component reliability database for domestic NPPs. We also extend the experience and knowledge of PSA and component reliability database for NPP to chemical industry We collect the raw data like component operation history and maintenance history and then input the required data for the component reliability database through failure analysis. With the database, we can not only perform PSA with real data but also perform maintenance optimization.

  • This study proposes a novel frame anti-vibration controller for position sensorless PMSM drive application. This controller is called specific component reduction controller (SCRC). SCRC can function without an accelerometer and can achieve speed variable control. This study mainly comprises the following phases. First, the position sensorless control method will be provided. Second, the frame vibration model and load torque ripple will be shown. Third, SCRC will be discussed and its stability will be analyzed. Finally, experimental results show that SCRC can achieve speed variable anti-vibration control and compensate target frequency torque ripple.

A Triple Band Deep-Tissue Antenna for Biomedical Implants (심부 조직 인체 삽입용 세 가지 밴드 안테나)

  • In this study, we introduce a triple-band flexible implantable antenna that is tuned by using a ground slot in three specific bands, namely Medical Implanted Communication Service (MICS: 402-405 MHz) for telemetry, the midfield band (lower gigahertz: 1.45-1.6 GHz) for Wireless Power Transfer (WPT), and the Industrial, Scientific and Medical band (ISM: 2.4-2.45 GHz) for power conservation. This antenna is wrapped inside a printed 3D capsule prototype to show its applicability in different implantable or ingestible devices. The telemetry performance of the proposed antenna was simulated and measured by using a porcine heart. From the simulation and measurement, we found that use of a ground slot in the implantable antenna can improve the antenna performance and can also reduce the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR).
