To improve fire-resistance of a high strength concrete against spalling under elevated temperature, fibers can be mixed to provide flow paths of evaporated water to the surface of concrete when heated. In this study, the experiment of a column under fire and mechanical loads is conducted and the material model for predicting temperature of reinforcement steel bar and mechanical behavior of fiber-mixed high strength concrete is suggested. The material model in previous studies is modified by incorporating physical behavior of internal concrete and thermal characteristics of concrete at the elevated temperature. Thermo-mechanical analysis of the fiber-mixed high strength concrete column is conducted using the calibrated material model. The performance of the proposed material model is confirmed by comparing thermo-mechanical analysis results with the experiment of a column under fire and mechanical loads.

In this study, experiment and numerical analysis were conducted to identify the heat transfer characteristics and behavior of high-strength concrete upon a fire. The numerical analysis was employed to forecast the characteristics and properties of the high-strength concrete upon a fire, which can not be accomplished through a fire test due to the specific conditions and restrictions associated with the test. The result of the numerical analysis was compared with that of the test to verify the reliability of the analysis. In the numerical analysis of the heat transfer characteristics and behavior of 80 and 100 MPa high-strength concrete upon a fire, the commercial software of ABAQUS(V.6.8) was used. It was observed from the experiment that the contraction of the concrete with fiber-cocktail was mitigated by 25~55 % compared with that without fiber-cocktail because the fiber controlled the heat transfer of the concrete and thus improved the fire-resistance performance of the column.
This paper summarizes an experimental and analytical study on the seismic behavior of high strength reinforced concrete columns under cyclic loading. In total six cantilever columns with different sizes and concrete compressive strengths were tested. Three columns, small size, had a $325{\times}325$ mm cross section and the three other columns, medium size, were $520{\times}520$ mm. Concrete compressive strength was 80, 130 and 180 MPa. All specimens were designed in accordance with the Japanese design guidelines. The tests demonstrated that, for specimens made of 180 MPa concrete compressive strength, spalling of cover concrete was very brittle followed by a significant decrease in strength. Curvature was much important for the small size than for the medium size columns. Concrete compressive strength had no effect on the curvature distribution for a drift varying between -2% and +2%. However, it had an effect on the drift corresponding to the peak moment and on the equivalent viscous damping variation. Simple equations are proposed for 1) evaluating the concrete Young's modulus for high strength concrete and for 2) evaluating the moment-drift envelope curves for the medium size columns knowing that of the small size columns. Experimental moment-drift and axial strain-drift histories were well predicted using a fiber model developed by the authors.

In recent years, the use of high-strength concrete has increased with increasing height and enlarging scale of the buildings However, it has been pointed out that the use of high-strength concrete is the most serious problem compared to ordinary concrete in terms of the spalling of concrete cross sections caused by fires. For this reason, fiber cocktail methods, which are made of polypropylene fibers, nylon fibers, etc., are mainly used to improve the fire resistance performance. However, the majority of research on high-strength concrete to which the fiber cocktail method was applied is mainly focused on the effect of reducing spalling, and few studies have investigated and analyzed the effect of micropores produced by melting PP fibers on the long-term durability of high-strength concrete after a fire. Therefore, in this study, the effect of micropores on the depth of carbonation was examined through carbonation tests and microstructure analysis, assuming high-strength concrete to which fiber-mixed construction method was applied, which caused fire damage.
To prevent the explosive spalling of the high strength concrete and control the rise of temperature in the steel rebar during fire, a fiber cocktail method has been proposed simultaneously with the use of polypropylene and steel fiber. After applying the fiber cocktail (polypropylene and steel fibers) into the mixture of high strength concrete with a compressive strength of between 40 and 100 MPa and evaluating the thermal properties at elevated temperatures, the fire test was carried out on structural members in order to evaluate the fire resistance performance. Two column specimens were exposed to the fire without loading for 180 minutes based on the standard curve of ISO-834. No explosive spalling has been observed and the original color of specimen surface was changed to light pinkish grey. The inner temperature of concrete dropped rapidly starting from 60mm deep. After 60 minutes of exposure to the fire, the temperature gradient of fiber cocktail reinforced high strength concrete was measured as 2.2oC/mm, which is approximately 5 times less than that of normal concrete. The final temperatures of steel rebar after 180 minutes of fire test resulted in 488.0oC for corner rebar, 350.9oC for center rebar, and 419.5oC for total mean of steel rebar. The difference of mean temperature between corner and center rebar was 137.1oC The tendency of temperature rise in concrete and steel rebar changed between 100oC and 150oC The cause of decrease in temperature rise was due to the water vaporization in concrete, the lower temperature gradient of the concrete with steel and polypropylene fiber cocktails, the moisture movement toward steel rebars and the moisture clogging.

In this study, the Impact resistance of steel fiber and organic fiber reinforced concrete and mortar was evaluated and the improvement in toughness resulting from an increase in compressive strength and mixing fiber for impact resistance on performance was examined. The types of fiber were steel fiber, PP and PVA, and these were mixed in at 0.1, 0.5 and 1.0 vol.%, respectively. Impact resistance is evaluated with an apparatus for testing impact resistance performance by high-speed projectile crash by gas-pressure. For the experimental conditions, Specimen size was $100{\times}100{\times}20$, 30mm ($width{\times}height{\times}thickness$). Projectile diameter was 7 and 10 mm and impact speed is 350m/s. After impact test, destruction grade, penetration depth, spalling thickness and crater area were evaluated. Through this evaluation, it was found that as compressive strength is increased, penetration is suppressed. In addition, as the mixing ratio of fiber is increased, the spalling thickness and crater area are suppressed. Organic fibers have lower density than the steel fiber, and population number per unit area is bigger. As a result, the improvement of impact resistance is more significant thanks to dispersion and degraded attachment performance.
The purpose of this study is to obtain the fundamental fire resistance performance of engineered cementitious composites (ECC) under fire temperature in order to use the fire protection material in high-strength concrete structures. The present study conducted the experiment to simulate fire temperature by employing of ECC and investigated experimentally the explosion and cracks in heated surface of these ECC. In the experimental studies, 5 HSC specimens are being exposed to fire, in order to exami ne the influence of vari ous parameters (such as depth of layer=20, 30, 40 mm; construction method=lining and repairing type) on the fire performance of HSC structures. Employed temperature curve were ISO 834 criterion (3 hr), which are severe in various criterion of fire temperature in building structures. The numerical regressive analysis and proposed equation to calculate ambient temperature distribution is carried out and verified against the experimental data. By the use of proposed equation, the HSC members subjected to fire loads were designed and discussed.

This experimental investigation was conducted to examine the behaviour of eight one-third scale columns made of high-strength concrete (HSC). The columns were subjected to a constant axial load corresponding to 30 per cent of the column axial load capacity and a cyclic horizontal load-inducing reversed bending moment. The variables studied in this research are the volumetric ratio of transverse reinforcement, tie configuration and tie yield strength. Columns with 42 per cent higher amounts of transverse reinforcement than that required by seismic provisions of ACI 318-02 showed ductile behaviour. Relationships between the calculated damage index and the observed damage such as initial crack, spalling of concrete, buckling of longitudinal bar, and crushing of concrete are propose.

This study analyzed fire-resistant characteristics according to changes in repair methods of PFH mixed high-strength concrete roof structures having undergone fire damage. The results of the study are as follows. First, as a repulsive characteristics of structures, the remaining repulsion was shown to increase following fire-resistance tests according to increases in depth of coverings. The results of the relationship between depth of coverings and remaining repulsion rates following fire-proofing tests showed a high correlation. At a covering depth of 67.3mm, remaining repulsion rate was estimated to be 100%. For fire-resistant characteristics following repairs of structure, as for spalling, severe separation was shown in the case of general plaster while general plaster + Metal Lath showed overall superior spalling prevention. For internal structure temperatures, general plaster showed max temperatures of 705℃, average temperatures of 636℃ while general plaster + metal lath showed max temperature of 660℃ and average temperature of 520℃, demonstrating lower temperature distributions than use of only general plaster. In conclusion, after removing the covering of structures damaged due to high temperatures of fires within high-strength concrete installations, the use of fire-resistant mortars and applying metal laths on surfaces of general plaster will provide superior fire-resistance performance in the occurrence of a 2nd fire.
In this study we experimentally evaluated an impact resistant performance of fiber reinforced concrete in the moment of explosion by high-velocity projectile with emulsion explosive. To assess the impact resistance, we conducted the impact test of high-velocity projectile which reaches an impact speed of 350 m/s and the experiment of contact exploding emulsion explosive. As a result, bending and tensile performance depending on type of PVA, PE fiber (polyvinyl alcohol fiber, polyethylene fiber) and steel fiber affects destruction of rear side in the form of spalling. Destroying the backside of the concrete compressive strength compared to suppress the bending and tensile performance is affected. In addition, the experiment shows that the destruction patterns of concrete specimen producted by high velocity impact and contact explosion are significantly similar. Therefore, it is possible to predict the destruction patterns of specimens in the situation of contact explosion by high-velocity projectile.
