Model Predictive Control for Productions Systems Based on Max-plus Algebra

  • Among the state-space description of discrete vent systems, the max-plus algebra is known as one of the effective approach. This paper proposes a model predictive control (MPC) design method based on the max-plus algebra. Several studies related to these topics have been done so far under the constraints that system parameters are constant. However, in practical systems such as production systems, it is common and sometimes inevitable that system parameters vary by each event. Therefore, it is of worth to design a new MPC controller taking account of adjustable system parameters. In this paper, we formulate system parameters as adjustable ones, and they are solved by a linear programing method. Since MPC determines optimal control input considering future reference signals, the controller can be more robust and the operation cost can be reduced. Finally, the proposed method is applied to a production system with three machines, and the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through a numerical simulation.

A Location-Routing Problem for Logistics Network Integrating Forward and Reverse Flow (역물류를 고려한 통합물류망에서의 입지:경로문제)

  • An effective management for reverse flows of products such as reuse, repair and disposal, has become an important issue for every aspect of business. In this paper, we study the Location-Routing Problem (LRP) in the multi-stage closed-loop supply chain network. The closed-loop supply chain in this study integrated both forward and reverse flows. In forward flow, a factory, Distribution Center (DC) and retailer are considered as usual. Additionally in reverse flow, we consider the Central Returns collection Center (CRC) and disposal facility. We propose a mixed integer programming model for the design of closed-loop supply chain integrating both forward and reverse flows. Since the LRP belongs to an NP-hard problem, we suggest a heuristic algorithm based on genetic algorithm. For some test problems, we found the optimal locations and routes by changing the numbers of retailers and facility candidates. Furthermore, we compare the efficiencies between open-loop and closed-loop supply chain networks. The results show that the closed-loop design is better than the open one in respect to the total routing distance and cost. This phenomenon enlarges the cut down effect on cost as an experimental space become larger.

  • For real-time recognizing of the load vehicles a new Neural Network algorithm is proposed. The proposed neural network technique is the real time computation method through the inter-node diffusion. In the network, a node corresponds to a state in the quantized input space. Each node is composed of a Processing unit and fixed weights from its neighbor nodes as well as its input terminal. The most reliable algorithm derived for real time recognition of vehicles, is a dynamic programming based algorithm based on sequence matching techniques that would process the data as it arrives and could therefore provide continuously updated neighbor information estimates. Through severa simulation experiments, real time reconstruction nonlinear image information is Processed. 1-D hardware has been composed and various experi with static and dynamic signals have implemented.

  • In this paper, we have designed a Home Networking System using an embedded linux board. The system based on the World-Wide-Web is composed of three parts - a Server, a Client and a Simulator. The Home Networking Server is built in an embedded board using an embedded linux kernel. A web-server and Home Networking Server Seryice Demon programming with a Jaya-Language is included in the board. Clients can connect to the server board using a web-browser in the desktop computer, PDA or any other machines which include a web-browser. For this purpose, we made the client program using a Java-Applet. So, the clients who connect to the server for the control of the applications, download the class-file and execute the client-program in the web-browser. So, the clients don't need any other programs to control the applications from a remote place. The size of server board is very small (86.3$\times$74mm), which makes it very useful not only for the Home-Networking-System but also in many other fields, e.g., embedded robot control system, etc. Using an embedded board instead of a desktop computer is good for a simple network environment and it occupies only a small space to make the system.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 차세대 대체에너지로 각광받는 풍력발전 중에서 육상발전보다 여러 가지 이점이 있는 한국형 해상풍력터빈 블레이드의 최적형상설계를 위한 알고리즘을 구현하는 것이다. 블레이드 단면 익형의 양력과 항력 분포는 XFOIL을 이용하여 예측하였다. 첫 번째 수준의 설계변수인 각각의 블레이드 지름과 축 회전수에서 익형의 공력변수들과 최소에너지손실 조건을 이용하여 두 번째 설계변수인 각 블레이드 단면에서의 시위길이와 피치각 분포를 최적화하였다. 그리고 성능결과를 바탕으로 반응면을 구성하고, 확률적 방법을 이용하여 타당성 있는 설계공간까지 첫 번째 설계변수를 이동시키고 구배최적화 기법을 통해 각각의 제약함수를 만족하면서 목적함수를 죄대로 하는 최적블레이드 형상을 구현하였다. 설계된 최적형상에 대해 탈설계점 해석을 수행하여 성능을 구하였다.

Implementation and assessment of advanced failure criteria for composite layered structures in FEMAP

  • AMOSC (Automatic Margin Of Safety Calculation) is a SW tool which has been developed to calculate the failure index of layered composite structures by referring to the cutting edge state-of-the-art LaRC05 criterion. The stress field is calculated by a finite element code. AMOSC allows the user to calculate the failure index also by referring to the classical Hoffman criterion (which is commonly applied in the aerospace industry). When developing the code, particular care was devoted to the computational efficiency of the code and to the automatic reporting capability. The tool implemented is an API which has been embedded into Femap Siemens SW custom tools. Then, a user friendly graphical interface has been associated to the API. A number of study-cases have been solved to validate the code and they are illustrated through this work. Moreover, for the same structure, the differences in results produced by passing from Hoffman to LaRC05 criterion have been identified and discussed. A number of additional comparisons have thus been produced between the results obtained by applying the above two criteria. Possible future developments could explore the sensitivity of the failure indexes to a more accurate stress field inputs (e.g. by employing finite elements formulated on the basis of higher order/hierarchical kinematic theories).

Propagation of plane waves in an orthotropic magneto-thermodiffusive rotating half-space

  • The present article is aimed at studying the reflection phenomena of plane waves in a homogeneous, orthotropic, initially stressed magneto-thermoelastic rotating medium with diffusion. The enuciation is applied to generalized thermoelasticity based on Lord-Shulman theory. There exist four coupled waves, namely, quasi-longitudinal P-wave (qP), quasi-longitudinal thermal wave (qT), quasi-longitudinal mass diffusive wave (qMD) and quasi-transverse wave (qSV) in the medium. The amplitude and energy ratios for these reflected waves are derived and the numerical computations have been carried out with the help of MATLAB programming. The effects of rotation, initial stress, magnetic and diffusion parameters on the amplitude ratios are depicted graphically. The expressions of energy ratios have also been obtained in explicit form and are shown graphically as functions of angle of incidence. It has been verified that during reflection phenomena, the sum of energy ratios is equal to unity at each angle of incidence. Effect of anisotropy is also depicted on velocities of various reflected waves.

A Heuristic Algorithm of an Efficient Berth Allocation for a Public Container Terminal (공공 컨테이너 터미널의 효율적인 선석할당을 위한 발견적 알고리즘 개발에 관한 연구)

  • As the suitability of berth allocation will ultimately have a significant influence on the performance of a berth, a great deal of attention should be given to berth allocation. Generally, a berth allocation problem has conflicting factors between servers and users. In addition, there is uncertainty in great extent caused by various factors such as departure delay, inclement weather on route, poor handling equipment, a lack of storage space, and other factors contribute to the uncertainty of arrival and berthing time. Thus, it is necessary to establish berth allocation planning which reflects the positions of interested parties and the ambiguity of parameters. For this, a berth allocation problem is formulated by fuzzy 0-1 integer programming introducing the concept of maximum Position Shift(MPS). But, the above approach has limitations in terms of computational time and computer memory when the size of problem is increased. It also has limitations with respect to the integration of other sub-systems such as ship planning system and yard planning system. For solving such problem, this paper focuses particularly on developing an efficient heuristic algorithm as a new technique of getting an effective solution. And also the suggested algorithm is verified through the illustrative examples and empirical appalicaton to BCTOC.

  • In contemporary global warfare, the significance and imperative of air transportation have been steadily growing. The Republic of Korea Air Force currently operates only light and medium-sized military cargo planes, but does not have a heavy one. The current air transportation capability is limited to meet various present and future air transport needs due to lack of performance such as payload, range, cruise speed and altitude. The problem of population cliffs and lack of airplane parking space must also be addressed. These problems can be solved through the introduction of heavy cargo planes. Until now, most studies on the need of heavy cargo plane and increasing air transport capability have focused on the necessity. Some of them suggested specific quantity and model but have not provided scientific evidence. In this study, the appropriate ratio of heavy cargo plane suitable for the Korea's national power was calculated using principal component analysis and cluster analysis. In addition, an optimization model was established to maximize air transport capability considering realistic constraints. Finally we analyze the results of optimization model and compare two alternatives for force structure.
