Multi-Spectral Camera(MSC) on the KOMPSAT-2 satellite was developed and launched as a main payload to provide 1m of GSD(Ground Sampling Distance) for one(1) channel panchromatic imaging and 4m of GSD for four(4) channel multi-spectral imaging at 685km altitude covering l5km of swath width. Since the compression on MSC image chain was required to overcome the mismatch between input data rate and output date rate JPEG-like method was selected and analyzed to check the influence on the performance. In normal operation the MSC data is being acquired and transmitted with lossy compression ratio to cover whole image channel and full swath width in real-time. In the other hand the MSC performance have carefully been handled to avoid or minimize any degradation so that it was analyzed and restored in KGS(KOMPSAT Ground Station) during LEOP(Launch and Early Operation Phase). While KOMPSAT-2 had been developed, new compression method based upon wavelet for space application was introduced and available for next satellite. The study on improvement of image chain including new compression method is asked for next KOMPSAT which requires better GSD and larger swath width In this paper, satellite image chain which consists of on-board image chain and on-ground image chain including general MSC description is briefly described. The performance influences on the image chain between two on-board compression methods which are or will be used for KOMPSAT are analyzed. The differences on performance between two methods are compared and the better solution for the performance improvement of image chain on KOMPSAT is suggested.

Ground-based interceptors(GBI) comprise a major element of the strategic defense against hostile targets like Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles(ICBM) and reentry vehicles(RV) dispersed from them. An optimum design of the subsystems is required to increase the performance and reliability of these GBI. Propulsion subsystem design and optimization is the motivation for this effort. This paper describes an effort in which an entire GBI missile system, including a multi-stage solid rocket booster, is considered simultaneously in a Genetic Algorithm(GA) performance optimization process. Single goal, constrained optimization is performed. For specified payload and miss distance, time of flight, the most important component in the optimization process is the booster, for its takeoff weight, time of flight, or a combination of the two. The GBI is assumed to be a multistage missile that uses target location data provided by two ground based RF radar sensors and two low earth orbit(LEO) IR sensors. 3Dimensional model is developed for a multistage target with a boost phase acceleration profile that depends on total mass, propellant mass and the specific impulse in the gravity field. The monostatic radar cross section (RCS) data of a three stage ICBM is used. For preliminary design, GBI is assumed to have a fixed initial position from the target launch point and zero launch delay. GBI carries the Kill Vehicle(KV) to an optimal position in space to allow it to complete the intercept. The objective is to design and optimize the propulsion system for the GBI that will fulfill mission requirements and objectives. The KV weight and volume requirements are specified in the problem definition before the optimization is computed. We have considered only continuous design variables, while considering discrete variables as input. Though the number of stages should also be one of the design variables, however, in this paper it is fixed as three. The elite solution from GA is passed on to(Sequential Quadratic Programming) SQP as near optimal guess. The SQP then performs local convergence to identify the minimum mass of the GBI. The performance of the three staged GBI is validated using a ballistic missile intercept scenario modeled in Matlab/SIMULINK.

The demand for industrial robots is proliferating with production automation. Industrial robots are used in various fields, such as logistics, welding, and assembly. Generally, six degrees of freedom are required to move freely in space. However, the palletizing robot used for material management and logistics systems typically has four degrees of freedom. In designing such robots, their main parts, such as motors and reducers, need to be adequately selected while satisfying payload requirements and speed. Hence, this study proposes a practical method for selecting the major parts based on dynamic analysis using ADAMS. First, the acceleration torques for the robot motion were found from the analysis, and then the friction torques were evaluated. This study introduces a constant-speed torque constant instead of friction coefficient. The RMS torque and maximum power of each motor were found considering the above torques. After that, this study recommends the major specifications of all motors and reducers. The proposed method was applied to a palletizing robot to verify the suitability of the pre-selected main parts. The verification result shows that the proposed method can be successfully applied to the early design stage of industrial robots.

Since machine learning was introduced into cross-site scripting (XSS) attack detection, many researchers have conducted related studies and achieved significant results, such as saving time and labor costs by not maintaining a rule database, which is required by traditional XSS attack detection methods. However, this topic came across some problems, such as poor generalization ability, significant false negative rate (FNR) and false positive rate (FPR). Moreover, the automatic clustering property of graph convolutional networks (GCN) has attracted the attention of researchers. In the field of natural language process (NLP), the results of graph embedding based on GCN are automatically clustered in space without any training, which means that text data can be classified just by the embedding process based on GCN. Previously, other methods required training with the help of labeled data after embedding to complete data classification. With the help of the GCN auto-clustering feature and labeled data, this research proposes an approach to detect XSS attacks (called GCNXSS) to mine the dependencies between the units that constitute an XSS payload. First, GCNXSS transforms a URL into a word homogeneous graph based on word co-occurrence relationships. Then, GCNXSS inputs the graph into the GCN model for graph embedding and gets the classification results. Experimental results show that GCNXSS achieved successful results with accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, FNR, FPR, and predicted time scores of 99.97%, 99.75%, 99.97%, 99.86%, 0.03%, 0.03%, and 0.0461ms. Compared with existing methods, GCNXSS has a lower FNR and FPR with stronger generalization ability.
An attempt to derive the surface temperature from the Korea Multi-purpose Satellite (KOMPSAT)-3A mid-wave infrared (MWIR) data acquired over the southern California on Nov. 14, 2015 has been made using the MODerate resolution atmospheric TRANsmission (MODTRAN) radiative transfer model. Since after the successful launch on March 25, 2015, the KOMPSAT-3A spacecraft and its two payload instruments - the high-resolution multispectral optical sensor and the scanner infrared imaging system (SIIS) - continue to operate properly. SIIS uses the MWIR spectral band of 3.3-5.2 ㎛ for data acquisition. As input data for the realistic simulation of the KOMPSAT-3A SIIS imaging conditions in the MODTRAN model, we used the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) atmospheric profiles, the KOMPSAT-3Asensor response function, the solar and line-of-sight geometry, and the University of Wisconsin emissivity database. The land cover type of the study area includes water, sand, and agricultural (vegetated) land located in the southern California. Results of surface temperature showed the reasonable geographical pattern over water, sand, and agricultural land. It is however worthwhile to note that the surface temperature pattern does not resemble the top-of-atmosphere (TOA) radiance counterpart. This is because MWIR TOA radiances consist of both shortwave (0.2-5 ㎛) and longwave (5-50 ㎛) components and the surface temperature depends solely upon the surface emitted radiance of longwave components. We found in our case that the shortwave surface reflection primarily causes the difference of geographical pattern between surface temperature and TOA radiance. Validation of the surface temperature for this study is practically difficult to perform due to the lack of ground truth data. We therefore made simple comparisons with two datasets over Salton Sea: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) field data and Salton Sea data. The current estimate differs with these datasets by 2.2 K and 1.4 K, respectively, though it seems not possible to quantify factors causing such differences.
Far-ultraviolet Imaging Spectrograph (FIMS) is the main payload of the Korea's first scientific micro satellite STSAT-1, which was launched at Sep. 27 2003 successfully. Major objective of FIMS is observing hot gas in the Galaxy in FUV bands to diagnose the energy flow models of the interstellar medium. Supernova remnants, molecular clouds, and Aurora emission in the geomagnetic pole regions are specific targets for pointing observation. Although the whole system was calibrated before launch, it is essential to perform on-orbit calibration for data analysis. For spectral calibration, we observed airglow lines in the atmosphere since they provide good spectral references. We identify and compare the observed airglow lines with model calculations, and correct the spectral distortion appeared in the detector system to improve the spectral resolution of the system.

These days, satellite core technologies are being developed as a way to provide various information by considering simultaneously sending, wide area covering, highly precide, and anti-disaster technologies. Not only global positioning, and image but also space launcher, satellite bus, satellite payload, earth station are being convergently developed in a different technological field. Especially, it is required a lot of initial investing expenditure to provide the Earth observational information service based on the space technologies. Such a trend and change of satellite technologies Korea has realized the necessity for the domestic independent development of next generation earth observation satellites, and are preparing the profound items such as a detailed implementation plan for the efficient development project. Like the satellite advanced countries, it should be transparently carried out that an efficient implementation of the developing target related to the geostationary earth observation satellite development, establishment of technological auditing function and quality assurance system, implementation plan, progressing courses and results of the satellite development program by way of planning, evaluation and management. For these things cited above, it is necessary to operate systematically and continuously the professional structural system by the governmental department in order to control the geostationary earth observation satellite development project. Therefore, this study proposes a development project management improvement method of the Korea next generation geostationary earth observation satellite based on the development project management system of the domestic geostationary satellite system.

Far-ultraviolet IMaging Spectrograph (FIMS) is the main payload of the first Korean scientific satellite, KAISTSAT-4, which will be launched in 2002. Among the optical parts, parabolic cylinder mirror does not have any heritage from previous astronomical missions, so the manufacturing and testing process itself is a challenging issue. We describe the method of manufacturing and measuring of the off-axis parabolic cylinder mirror and our initial experiments to establish the entire manufacturing process. Using the method, the profile error can meet the specification of $lambda$ per cm which is closely related with the astronomical performances. In case of the surface roughness, temperature controlled pitch polishing reduces $R_{q}$ under 1 nm implying that scattering in the entire spectral range of FIMS is less than 2% of the incident UV light.

Recently, there has been an increasing demand for SAR satellite as it can be operated regardless of the weather condition. In general, main reflector of the SAR is formed of multiple deployable panels to increase performance in the constrained payload envelope. By nature, deployable structure lacks structural stiffness and it is vulnerable to external disturbances and excitation. In particular, SAR satellites may have high levels of vibration occurring at the antenna reflecting surface due to higher angular rate requirements. During image capturing it is important to keep high surface accuracy of the reflector for the quality of images. In this research, a performance degradation of deployable SAR antenna due to structural deformation is analyzed. Panels for main reflectors are assumed to be flexible structures and multi-body simulation environment is established. Then, deflection of the panel is calculated while the satellite performs maneuvers. In addition, antenna gain and beam pointing error are analyzed to determine how these deflections affect antenna performance and mission.

Solid-liquid Phase Change Material(PCM) as a thermal control hardware for the electro-optical payload of low earth orbit satellite is numerically studied which can be substituted with Thermal Buffer Mass(TBM). The electro-optical module in LEO satellite is periodically work and high heat is dissipated during the imaging period, however, the design temperature range is very tight and sensitive. In order to handle this problem TBM is added and as a result the time constant of the module temperature increases. TBM is made of Al6010 and its mass directly affects the system design. To save the mass PCM is suggested in this study. The latent heat of melting or solidification is very high and small amount of PCM can play a role instead of TBM. The result shows that only 12% of TBM mass is enough to control the module temperature using PCM.
