Inspired by the multi-scale nature of hippocampal place cells, a biologically inspired model based on a multi-scale spatial representation for goal-directed navigation is proposed in order to achieve robotic spatial cognition and autonomous navigation. First, a map of the place cells is constructed in different scales, which is used for encoding the spatial environment. Then, the firing rate of the place cells in each layer is calculated by the Gaussian function as the input of the Q-learning process. The robot decides on its next direction for movement through several candidate actions according to the rules of action selection. After several training trials, the robot can accumulate experiential knowledge and thus learn an appropriate navigation policy to find its goal. The results in simulation show that, in contrast to the other two methods(G-Q, S-Q), the multi-scale model presented in this paper is not only in line with the multi-scale nature of place cells, but also has a faster learning potential to find the optimized path to the goal. Additionally, this method also has a good ability to complete the goal-directed navigation task in large space and in the environments with obstacles.
Computer simulation of buildings and solar energy systems is being used increasingly in energy assessments and design. For the six locations (Seoul, Incheon, Daejeon, Deagu, Gwangju and Busan) in South Korea where the global hourly solar irradiation (GHSI) is currently measured, GHSI was calculated using a comparatively simple cloud cover radiation model (CRM) and sunshine fraction radiation model (SFRM). The result was that the measured and calculated values of GHSI were similar for the six regions. Results of cloud cover and sunshine fraction models have been compared with the measured data using the coefficient of determination (R2), root-mean-square error (RMSE) and mean bias error (MBE). The strength of correlation R2 varied within similar ranges: 0.886-0.914 for CRM and 0.908-0.934 for SFRM. Average MBE for the CRM and SFRM were 6.67 and 14.02 W/m2, respectively, and average RMSE 104.36 and 92.15 W/m2. This showed that SFRM was slightly accurate and used many regions as compared to CRM for prediction of GHSI.
This treatise studies composing process that renew information mastered by interactive experience between environment and system via network among individuals. In the previous study map information regarding free space is learned by using of reinforced learning algorithm, which enable each individual to construct optimal action policy. Based on those action policy each individuals can obtain optimal path. Moreover decision process to distinguish best optimal path by comparing those in the network composed of each individuals is added. Also information about the finally chosen path is being updated. A self renewing method of each system information by sharing the each individual data via network is proposed Data enrichment by shilling the information of many maps not in the single map is tried Numerical simulation is conducted to confirm the propose concept. In order to prove its suitability experiment using micro-mouse by integrating and comparing the information between individuals is carried out in various types of map to reveal successful result.

This paper proposes a novel detection scheme using a radial basis function (RBF) network in a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) environment. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed MIMO-RBF receiver, simulations are performed over the rich-scattering fading channel. Simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme shows the similar bit-error rate (BER) performance of a maximum likelihood detection (MLD) and outperforms Vertical-Bell Laboratories Layered Space-Time using minimum-mean-square-error nulling (VBLAST-MMSE) as well as VBLAST using zero-forcing nulling (VBLAST-ZF). Moreover, we investigate the effect on the performance of the number of RBF center with two modulation formats (BPSK and QPSK) and different number of transmit and receive antennas. The performance of the proposed detector is verified with respect to an initialization-rate of RBF centers.
In this study, we investigated the generation of consecutive electrostatic solitary waves (ESWs) using by one-dimensional electrostatic particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation. For a given Gaussian perturbation, it is found that electron two-stream instability occurs in local grids region. Thus because of this instability, the electrostatic potential grows rapidly so as to be separated into electron and ion in perturbation region, and then electrons are trapped with heating during growing instability. It is found that these heated and trapped electrons are caused the generation of ESW, and ions are reflected backward and forward at the boundary of the initial perturbation, then form cold ion beam whereas electrons are confined to inside of the potential. Furthermore backward reflected ion beam forms ion holes by ion two-stream instability. On the other hand, as the confined electrons are released, and then released electrons also form hot electron beam, which play an important role in the generation of consecutive ESWs such as broadband electrostatic noise (BEN) observed frequently in space environment. Therefore the reason of the generation of consecutive ESWs is the existence of heated electrons which can sufficiently support energy to produce ESWs.
Underground constructions continue to provide challenges to Geotechnical Engineers yet they pose the best opportunities for development and deployment of advance technologies for analysis, design and construction. The reason for this is that, by virtue of the nature of underground constructions, more data and information on ground characteristics and response become available as the construction progresses. However, due to several barriers, these data and information are rarely, if ever, utilized to modify and improve project design and construction during the construction stage. To enable the use of evolving realtime data and information, and adaptively modify and improve design and construction, the paper presents an analysis and design system, called AMADEUS, for underground projects. AMADEUS stands for Adaptive, real-time and geologic Mapping, Analysis and Design of Underground Space. AMADEUS relies on recent advances in IT (Information Technology), particularly in digital imaging, data management, visualization and computation to significantly improve analysis, design and construction of underground projects. Using IT and remote sensors, real-time data on geology and excavation response are gathered during the construction using non-intrusive techniques which do not require expensive and time-consuming monitoring. The real-time data are then used to update geological and geomechanical models of the excavation, and to determine the optimal, construction sequences and stages, and structural support. Virtual environment (VE) systems are employed to allow virtual walk-throughs inside an excavation, observe geologic conditions, perform virtual construction operations, and investigate stability of the excavation via computer simulation to steer the next stages of construction.
Purpose - Robot path planning, a constrained optimization problem, has been an active research area with many methods developed to tackle it. This study proposes the use of a Rapidly-exploring Random Tree and Particle Swarm Optimizer algorithm for path planning. Research design, data, and methodology - The grid method is built to describe the working space of the mobile robot, then the Rapidly-exploring Random Tree algorithm is applied to obtain the global navigation path and the Particle Swarm Optimizer algorithm is adopted to obtain the best path. Results - Computer experiment results demonstrate that this novel algorithm can rapidly plan an optimal path in a cluttered environment. Successful obstacle avoidance is achieved, the model is robust, and performs reliably. The effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated through simulation studies. Conclusions - The findings could provide insights to the validity and practicability of the method. This method makes it is easy to build a model and meet real-time demand for mobile robot navigation with a simple algorithm, which results in a certain practical value for distribution environments.

Excessive outflow of pollutant loads resulting from rapid industrialization has unbalanced the water ecosystem, deteriorating the water quality environment severely. Therefore, measures for improving the water quality are necessary to maintain clean reservoir water and restore water-friendly spaces. A water quality model which is capable of simulating daily reservoir water quality was developed. The model had been applied to Masan reservoir and Wanggung reservoir in Korea. The model appeared to be satisfactory in representing the trend of water quality variations by comparing measured and simulated results. The model had been also applied to assess water purification techniques such as dredged pool, floating island and vegetation purification system. The model was considered to assess the effect of water purification techniques on reservoir water quality improvement. The results of water quality simulation for lake water purification techniques showed that a large facility would be needed to meet the targeted water quality of the reservoir when only one technique is applied. To effectively improve the quality of the polluted reservoir water, it is therefore recommended that pollutant sources should first be controlled, and a combination of the water purification techniques applied to make the utmost use of their secondary effects such as conservation of the reservoir volume capacity, establishment of a recreation space, promotion of bio-diversity, and improvement of the lake landscape.

It is very important to analyze and predict the propagation characteristics of LEO communication satellite at the service area using computer simulation. In this paper, the propagation characteristics of a satellite communication system are analyzed using ray tracing technique. We predicted the receiving environment and obtain the delay profile and total received power at each position using ray tracing method by changing both the azimuth and elevation angles after establishing the imaginary receiving space. The final goal of this paper is to analyze and understand the wave propagation characteristics of the satellite communication network about 2 GHz frequency band. The prediction method presented in this paper may help us to design satellite transceiver system and to construct a satellite communication network.
This study examines how fence demolition may change the thermal environments of external spaces of houses and suggests what factors need to be considered when a fence is demolished. The results of the research are summarized as follows. In terms of the surface temperature, there was no significant difference in all time plots after the removal of all materials. However, applying greening methods (changing the surface materials, planting trees, and building a green roof following fence demolition) could lower the surface temperatures, calling for proper plans for various greening methods. The MRT results indicates that walls block solar radiation and provide shade, reducing radiant heat from roads and surrounding structures during the daytime when solar radiation directly effects surface temperatures. Also, the application of greening methods such as planting vegetation and trees could have shading and evapotranspiration effects, leading to a lower temperature distribution. The HIP results were similar to the MRT results. They indicated that walls block solar radiation within the residential sections and provide shade, resulting in a lower temperature distribution during the daytime. However, areas where greening methods such as a green roof or tree planting were applied showed $1{\sim}2^{\circ}C$ difference in temperature distribution.
