Recently, with developments in the automotive industry, sound and vibration damping have a considerable attraction with a diversified customer needs and advanced automobile. In general, among various materials, textile materials, such as felt and glass fibers, polyurethane foam, and PET fiber materials were used to reduce sound and vibration of the automobile. These materials were located in various main parts of the automobile to block sound and vibration, resulting in a comfortable ride. In addition, to improve fuel economy, weight reduction and cost saving for the automobile were also being considered together as well as the reduction of sound and vibration of the automobile. Therefore, in this paper, we focused on the need of interior sound and vibration absorption materials in the automobile and absorption materials-related technologies.

In case of the working machine that using in the loud-noisy workplace, as it generates the loud-noise, it is influencing a physical, mental bad effect to those workers. Accordingly, though the noise countermeasure for the loud-noisy workplace is acutely requiring, until now, those methods that wearing the soundproof-protection tool, or restriction the working hours, and minimize the noise exposure volume, were mainly used. However, such noise countermeasures occur many problem points. On such point of view, using the acoustic simulation technique, let the workers to choose the workplace where suffering many damages due to the noise of working machine, and after grasp the physical property of working machine and indoor acoustic characteristic, this Study has attempted to grasp the reduction degree of noise level at before-improvement?after-improvement, through the sound-absorption measure. Passing through such preceding step, using auralizational technique based on the noise of working machine of before-improvement after-improvement, and by conduct psycho-acoustics evaluation, this study intended to investigate the change degree of subject reaction. As the result of evaluation, it is considering that the noise-reduction countermeasure method for the loud-noisy workplace could be much effective, through the sound-absorption measure.

This study aimed to identify changes in the physical properties of artificial mineral-fiber materials used as building insulation that had been installed in the outer walls of buildings for a long time. To achieve this goal, glass fiber and rock wool were collected from outer walls in actual buildings and their acoustic and thermal performances were measured. These were compared with measurements from similar products manufactured recently. The results showed that old, used samples had a lower sound absorption coefficient compared to recently manufactured materials. The old samples also displayed increased compressibility compared to new materials. For example, the compressibility difference for glass wool was 7.32 mm. Old samples had a dynamic stiffness $1.28MN/m^3$ higher than new material samples. The thermal conductivity of both old and new samples increased within creasing temperature. They showed similar results at temperatures between 0 and $20^{\circ}C$.

Eco-friendly material applied to building would be one of the materials which is must developed for global environmental conservation and reduction of carbon dioxide. For development of eco-friendly material, a cellulose absorber has been developed with waste paper through adjustment of various mix proportions. The developed cellulose absorber has been tested for its acoustic properties such as absorption coefficient and dynamic stiffness. The absorption coefficient was evaluated by developing six samples and using impedance tube and reverberation chamber. As a result of the evaluation, 0.64(NRC) was secured in absorption coefficient and 4.7 $MN/m^3$ was indicated in dynamic stiffness. Also, for practical use of developed absorbers as inner heartwood in drywall, comparison test of sound reduction index was performed with existing glass wool absorbers and constructed drywall of gypsum board. The results have shown 55 dB(Rw) of sound reduction index in glass-wool wall and 46 dB(Rw) in cellulose.
In this paper, experimental methods to find acoustic characteristics of acoustically treated air-conditioning duct system are proposed. Existing methods to analyze acoustic properties of duct with absorbent material have dilemma which has to assume the wave in duct to be a plane wave. Under this assumption. applicable frequency limitation makes accurate analysis of practical air-conditioning system impossible. In order to analyze the properties of in-lined treated absorbent with high degree of accuracy, in this experiments the range of exciting frequency of sound source is broadband, which means that source speaker excited higher mode of in-duct sound field. Also, to define the relations of air cavity to the acoustic characteristics, acoustic experiments on ducts with air cavity of different depth are operated. In conclusion, air-cavity makes the absorbing ability of duct improved in low frequency range. Due to the interactions between the air cavity depth and the depth of absorbents, according to depth of cavity, the magnitude of absorption coefficients vs frequencies in specific range is changed. In lower frequency range, the absorption of sound energy by air cavity is more dominant than by absorbent itself, in higher range, the inversion is true.
The angular dispersion-type non-scanning Fabry-Perot was applied to an ethanol-water mixture in order to investigate its acoustic properties such as the sound velocity and the absorption coefficient. The scattered light from the mixture was analyzed by using the charge-coupled-device area detector, which made the measurement time much shorter than that obtained by using the conventional scanning tandem multi-pass Fabry-Perot interferometer. The sound velocity showed a deviation from ultrasonic sound velocities at low temperatures accompanied by the increase in the absorption coefficient, indicating acoustic dispersion due to the coupling between the acoustic waves and some relaxation process. Based on a simplified viscoelastic theory, the temperature dependence of the relaxation time was obtained. The addition of water molecules to ethanol reduced the relaxation time, consistent with dielectric measurements. The present study showed that the angular dispersion-type Fabry-Perot interferometer combined with an area detector could be a very powerful tool in the real-time monitoring of the acoustic properties of condensed matter.

Glass fiber is widely used in architectural acoustics or building acoustics for sound absorption since it was introduced into China for about 50 years. But recent years, with people pay more attentions to the air cleansing and their health which may be affected by the tiny fiber of the glasswool, a voluntary tendency opposing glass fiber of room using is gradual appeared in China. This paper discusses both the main opinions towards the question whether there are harmful impacts on people health from glassfiber, and the application circumstance of it's applying in china. This paper focuses on another substitute sound absorbing material, melamine foam, to discuss the strong environmental friendly tendency opposing glass fiber of room using in China now.

A sound field in a reverberation room is analyzed by using numerical methods and the SPL distributions are compared to the measurements. In numerical predictions, the BEM is employed in the low frequency range, while sound ray tracing method is used for the high frequency range. In the BEM analysis, the surfaces of the empty reverberation room are assumed as rigid boundaries and the damping coefficients are estimated from the measured absorption coefficient. The comparisons with measurements for 100Hz shows good agreement. In the sound ray tracing analysis, the predicted energy decay are in excellent agreements with theoretical results. It is shown that the energy absorption by air damping plays an important role as frequency becomes higher.
This paper proposes a simple procedure for estimating the acoustical parameter values in an occupied classroom from measurements in the unoccupied classroom. The total sound absorption in an unoccupied classroom can be calculated from measured reverberation times in the room. The expected occupied absorption can be calculated using equation that was obtained in a previous study (Choi, 2016) by fitting a linear regression line to a plot of total occupied absorption versus the corresponding unoccupied total absorption values measured in 12 university classrooms. The ratios of occupied-to-unoccupied sound absorption are used to predict increments in the values of acoustical parameters when occupants are added to the rooms. Occupied values of acoustical parameters can be estimated from unoccupied values and the change in total room absorption due to adding occupants.

The sound absorption coefficients for multiple layer perforated plate systems containing several compartments with airspaces and porous absorbing materials are estimated using the transfer matrix method developed in the previous paper. The absorption coefficients from transfer matrix method agree well with the values measured by the two-microphone impedance tube method for various combinations of perforated plates, airspaces or porous materials. Based on these results, a guidance for the design of multiple layer perforated plate systems combined with airspaces and porous absorbing materials is discussed in detail.
