  • In the corrugated steel panels used for railway vehicles, sound insulation performance is significantly deteriorated by local resonance effect. In this study, as a countermeasure, polyurethane foam is filled in the corrugated steel panel and glass wool layer is inserted in the layered floor panel, and then improvement effect of the sound insulation performance is experimentally estimated. Based on ASTM E2249-02, intensity transmission loss is measured and estimated on the corrugated panel and floor structure. The aim of the study is to identify how the foam filling and inserting glass wool layer improve the sound insulation performance of the train body structure in aspect of the weight increment.

  • The interest of this article lies in the proposition of using bionic method to develop a new sound absorber and analyze the efficient of this absorber in a ski cabin. Inspired by the coupling absorption structure of the skin and feather of a typical silent flying bird - owl, a bionic coupling multi-layer structure model is developed, which is composed of a micro-silt plate, porous fibrous material and a flexible micro-perforated membrane backed with airspace. The finite element simulation method with ACTRAN is applied to calculate the acoustic performance of the multi-layer absorber, the vibration modal of the ski cabin and the sound pressure level (SPL) near the skier's ears before and after pasting the absorber at the flour carpet and seats in the cabin. As expected, the SPL near the ears was significantly reduced after adding sound-absorbing material. Among them, the model 2 and model 5 showed the best sound absorption efficiency and the SPL almost reduced 5 dB. Moreover, it was most effctive for the SPL reduction with full admittance configuration at both the carpet and the seats, and the carpet contribution seems to be predominant.

  • The equivalent electroacoustic circuit approach has been conventionally used for the analysis of the multiple layer perforated plate system. However, it is found that an analogy error has been involved in the equivalent electroacoustic approach proposed by previous researchers for the element of straight pipe. Although the pipe between the perforated layers is a distributed element in the analogy, it has been treated as a parallel element by previous investigators. The analogy error is demonstrated by comparing the calculated absorption coefficients based on the parallel circuit and the distributed circuit, respectively, with the measured values by the two-microphone impedance tube method.

  • An equivalent electroacoustic circuit approach of estimating the sound absorption coefficient for parallel perforated plate system is proposed. The proposed approach is validated by comparing the calculated absorption coefficients of a parallel single layer perforated plate system with the values measured by the two-microphone impedance tube method for various porosity and cavity depth. • Noise barrier is used to reduce traffic noise. The effect of a noise barrier depends not only on the materials, but also on the physical properties such as density, height and degree of absorption, etc. Typical absorptive noise barrier is used sound absorbing material, such as glass wool and mineral wool. The goal of this study is to develope excellent absorptive noise barrier using a polyester. Laboratory measurements were peformed with various thicknesses, density and layer of absorber in a reverberation room.

  • In recent years, the piping vibration in many Power Plants is being increased by the aged generating facilities due to a long time use. Generally, the pressure fluctuations associated with the flow-induced excitations in this case are broadband in nature. Mainly, the dominant sources of vibration are a vortex-shedding, plane waves and boundary layer turbulence. The peak level of the spectrum is proportional to the dynamic head. A severe disturbance in pipeline results in the generation of intense broadband internal sound waves which can propagate through the piping system. The characteristic frequencies of operating loads of 20%, 57%, 70%, 100% are 4 - 6 Hz and coincide with the results from impact hammering test and FEM analysis. We chose the wire energy absorbing rope restraint as a vibration reduction method after reviewing the various conditions such as site, installing space and economic cost etc. After installation, the vibration level was reduced about 54% in velocity.
