The ${\gamma}/{\gamma}^{\prime}$ two-phases, commonly known as a eutectic structure, are observed in the ${\gamma}$ interdendritic region of a Ni-base superalloy. However, the growth behavior of the ${\gamma}/{\gamma}^{\prime}$ two-phases, whether it is of eutectic or peritectic nature, has not been decidedly established. Directional solidifications were, thus, performed with the planar interface at a low growth rate of $0.5{\mu}m/s$ in order to promote macro segregation. Directional solidification started with the ${\gamma}$ planar interface and the ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ phase nucleated on the ${\gamma}$ planar interface at the solidification fraction of 0.75. The ${\gamma}/{\gamma}^{\prime}$ two-phases showed the ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ rod structure as major phase and the ${\gamma}$ minor phase between ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ rods, and the volume fraction of the ${\gamma}$ phase changed continuously with an increasing solidification fraction. The two-phase ${\gamma}/{\gamma}^{\prime}$ is seen as the coupled peritectic.
The grain size and growth direction of a directionally solidified turbine blade were evaluated by the initial nucleation condition at the start block of directional solidification. The initial nucleation condition was controlled by inserting a Ni foil on the directional solidification plate of the directional solidification furnace. Fine grains with good orientation were obtained in the faster cooling condition at the start block. The nucleus number was compared with the cooling rate of the start block by electron back scattered diffraction (EBSD). DSC (differential scanning calorimeter) analysis was performed to compare the melting point and undercooling for nucleation of the coarse nuclei and fine nuclei of the start block. The faster cooling condition at the start block showed more undercooling for nucleation and smaller size of nuclei which resulted in a fine grain with good orientation in the directional turbine blade.
The present microbial reinforcement of rock and soil exhibits limitations, such as uneven reinforcement effectiveness and low calcium carbonate generation rate, resulting in limited solidification strength. This study introduces electroosmosis as a standard microbial grouting reinforcement technique and investigates its solidification effects on microbial-reinforced uranium tailings. The most effective electroosmosis effect on uranium tailings occurs under a potential gradient of 1.25 V/cm. The findings indicate that a weak electric field can effectively promote microbial growth and biological activity and accelerate bacterial metabolism. The largest calcium carbonate production occurred under the gradient of 0.5 V/cm, featuring a good crystal combination and the best cementation effect. Staged electroosmosis and electrode conversion efficiently drive the migration of anions and cations. Under electroosmosis, the cohesion of uranium tailings reinforced by microorganisms increased by 37.3% and 64.8% compared to those reinforced by common microorganisms and undisturbed uranium tailings, respectively. The internal friction angle is also improved, significantly enhancing the uniformity of reinforcement and a denser and stronger microscopic structure. This research demonstrates that MICP technology enhances the solidification effects and uniformity of uranium tailings, providing a novel approach to maintaining the safety and stability of uranium tailings dams.
The horizontal continuous casting process with the heated mold was applied to obtain the unidirectionally solidified rods($4{\sim}8mm$ dia.) of pure copper with good surface quality. The results could be summarized as follows. 1. The unidirectional solidification of pure copper rods with good surface(mirror surface) quality could be obtained by placing the S/L interface inside the heated mold cavity even though the cast copper rods were covered with thin copper oxide layer. 2. The casting speed for 4mm dia. rods with mirror surfaces was affected significantly by the mold-cooler distance rather than the cooling flow rate when other casting conditions were fixed. 3. The casting speed was the main factor affecting the oxidation of copper during the continuous casting and the thickness of copper oxide layer decreased almost linearly as the casting speed increased.
A Study on microstructural changes of sensitized Alloy 600 which was rapidly solidified by a $CO_2$ laser beam was conducted using microscopic equipments such as SEM and TEM. Dissolution of Cr-rich carbides and resultant Cr recovery on the grain boundaries occurred in the heat affected zone (HZA). The microstructure of the laser melted zone (LMZ) having epitaxially solidified from the HAZ was mainly celluar-dendritic with the 〈100〉 crystallographic direction of growth. The Cr concentration was observed to increase along the cell bondaries, and tiny particles were distributed along the cell walls with tangled dislocations around them. Cr-rich carbides had been completely melted by the high density of a laser beam, and were not re-precipitated during the matrix solidification due to a fast cooling rate in the LMZ.

Formation of an icosahedral phase in the bulk glass forming $Ti_{40}Zr_{29}Be_{14}Cu_9Ni_8$ alloy during crystallization from amorphous phase and solidification from melt is investigated. The icosahedral phase with a size of 10 to 15 nm forms as a thermodynamically stable phase at intermediate temperature during the transformation from amorphous to crystalline phases such as Laves and ${\beta}$-(Ti-Zr) phases, indicating that the existence of the icosahedral cluster in the undercooled liquid. On the other hand, the icosahedral phase forms as a primary solidification phase even though the Laves phase is stable at high temperature, which is can be explained based on the high nucleation rate of icosahedral phase relative to that of competing crystalline Laves phase due to lower interfacial energy between icosahedral and liquid phases.
This study investigates the problem of phase change from liquid to solid in the inviscid stagnation flow. The instantaneous location of the solid-liquid interface is fixed for all times by a coordinate transformation. Finite difference method is used to obtain the solution of the unsteady problem, and the growth rate of solid and the transient heat transfer from the surfaces of solid are investigated. The transient solution is dependent on the three dimensionless parameters, but the final steady state is determined by only one parameter of temperature ratio/conductivity ratio. It is observed that the instantaneous heat flux at the surface of solid can be obtained with sufficient accuracy by measuring the thickness of the solid or vice versa.
The effect of forced convention on the solute redistribution of the Al ingot was studied quantitatively in an effort to fabricate high purity aluminum using a segregation method. Based on the experimental results, the solute concentration in the solid phase tended to decrease at the early state of solidification, and then increased gradually as solidification proceeded. Fe and Si concentrations decreased as growth rate decreased and as revolution speed increased. The solute redistribution obtained from the BPS model incorporated with the tangential flow component as well as the axial flow component within the melt, agreed well with the measurements.
Radical development has been made in the every field of our society for the past scores of year. Radical development of industry and lining environment has mass-produced various toxic wastes . Which comes to the fore as a serious environmental problem. The purpose of this is to suggest the optima mix design by studying the utility of a toxic waste, plated sludge as a building material and deciding the standards of quality and use of cement and evaluating the properties of mortar and concrete in which plated sludge mixed. From an experiment, compressive strength required high early strength cement or special cement. Watertightness proved to be excellent. Heavy metals, such as Cd, Pb, Cu came out below an environmental standard. Cr+6 exceeded an environmental standard under a steam curing, but came out below an environmental under a standard curing. The higher replacement rate was, the lower frost, fusion and resistance were. Thus, got better results above the goal by condition. It was possible that plated sludge was replaced and solidified to aggregate. Therefore, it is necessary to define the standards of quality on strength, replacement rate of wastes, water permeability, endurance in other to solidify plated sludge to concrete products.
