Estimation of energy self-sufficiency in municipal wastewater treatment plant using simulated solar photovoltaic performance (태양광발전시스템 성능 시뮬레이션을 통한 하수처리장 에너지자립율 산정)

  • This paper presents energy self-sufficiency simulated in municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) by adopting solar energy production systems that vary with installation conditions. Relative to the national average energy consumption in WWTPs, the employment of 100 kW photovoltaics (PVs) was simulated to achieve 2.75% of energy self-sufficiency. The simulated results suggested that the installation of PVs toward South or South west would produce the highest energy self-sufficiency in WWTPs. When super-hydrophilic coating was employed in the conventional PVs, 5% of additional solar energy production was achievable as compared to uncoated conventional PVs. When 100 kW of PVs were installed in a future test-bed site, Kihyeung Respida located in Yougin, Sourth Korea, the energy self-sufficiency by solar energy was simulated to be 1.77% (2010). The simulated energy self-sufficiency by azimuth(direction) will be useful reference for practitioners in designing the solar PV systems in the WWTPs.

  • To start with, finding a sustainable method to produce sweet water and electricity by using renewable energies is one of the most important issues at this time. So, experimental and theoretical analysis of the performance of a closed solar powered still, which is jointed to photovoltaic cells and vacuum pump and equipped by nano plate, as the principle stage of zero discharge desalination process is investigated in this project. Major goal of this work is to reuse the concentrated brine of the Mobin petrochemical complex in order to produce potable, sweet water from effluent saline wastewater and generating electricity in the same time by using solar energy instead of discharging them to the environment. It is observed the increase in brackish water temperature increases the average daily production of solar desalination still considerably. Therefore, the nano plate and vacuum pump are added to augment the evaporation rate. The insolation rate, evaporation rate, the average brackish temperature, ambient temperature, density are investigated during a year 2013. In addition to obtain the capacity of solar powered still, the highest and lowest amount of water and electricity generation are reported during a twelvemonth (2013). Results indicate the average daily production is increased 16%, which represents 7.78 kW.h energy saving comparing with traditional solar still.

  • The application of solar energy, in the field of alternative energy, was on the increase tendency. In the case of advanced nations, through continuous R&D, solar hot water heater with high efficiency has been used for the house and the industrial process on business, advanced nations were reached up the experimental stage of solar generation system. But, the actual circumstance of the domestic has been not accomplished the popularization of solar hot water heater and the settlement of it which is the fundamental stage of the solar energy usage. This trouble, the domestic was flooded with small enterprise for producing solar hot water heater, was caused by the popularization and the production without verification of performance. To supply the monitoring program for evaluating solar hot water heater, this research was purpose to improve the technical development of the enterprise for producing solar-heat hot-water-boiler and served as an aid for the enlargement and the popularization on solar energy.

  • Photoelectrochemical decomposition of water by the irradiation of light to the $TiO_2$ thin film soaked in water was observed. The $TiO_2$ thin film was coated on top of $SnO_2$ nesa glass by use of spray method and of dip-coating method. The spray technique of $SnO_2$ nesa film production and dip-coating technique of $TiO_2$ thin film preparation on top of the $SnO_2$ nesa film were discribed briefly. $TiO_2$ film appearance was observed by SEM and I-V characteristic curve were measured for the various thickness of $TiO_2$ film. The film Thickness $1.8{\mu}m$ showed the maximum photoelectric current. Xe-lamp was used as light source for the photoelectrochemical reaction of thin film $TiO_2$ in acidic water(pH=1)

  • In this study, a manufacturing process for PV module has been developed using an automatic arraying equipment. It is expected that this process could improve the productivity and curtail the production cost in the photovoltaic module production line. From the results, it is proved that this process reduces Line-stop and enhances the productivity more than 15% a day which can be related directly to the production line cost.

  • Amid the booming research on new and renewable energy, the photovoltaic(PV) industry has been growing around the PV advanced countries such as Japan, Germany, Europe and USA. In recent years, China became a strong performer in the world PV market share, increasing solar cell production rapidly. Both world solar cell and module production and installation rose steadily in 2007 like recent bumper years. In 2007, the PV industry produced 4.28GW and the installations reached a record high of 2.83GW, representing growth of 60percent over the previous year.

  • The evaporative desalination system using solar thermal energy would be the efficient and attractive method to get fresh water from brine due to low carbon dioxide generation. In this research the solar desalination system as a heating source of refrigerant R123 in the evaporator was considered. The circulation of refrigerant in the evaporator can reduce the energy consumption of the system, because of using the latent heat of the refrigerant 123 instead of the sensible heat of present hot water. The system was comprised of the single-stage fresh water production unit on the capacity of 1ton/day with shell and tube type evaporator, heaters instead of solar collector to supply the proper heat to refrigerant, and refrigerant and brine circulation systems. Various operating flowrate and temperature ranges were varied in the experiments to get the optimum design data. The results showed that the optimum flow rate of brine feed rate to evaporator was 1.2Liter/min, and the yield of fresh water was increased as higher temperature of feed brine. It was confirmed that the circulation flowrate of heating source of refrigerant was decrease of one fifth of the present warm water system, and very efficient system for solar desalination.

  • Solar power generation system is a energy generation technology that produces electricity from solar power, and it is growing fastest among renewable energy technologies. It is of utmost importance that the solar power system supply energy to the load stably. However, due to unstable energy production due to weather and weather conditions, accurate prediction of energy production is needed. In this paper, an Artificial Neural Network(ANN) that predicts solar energy using 15 kinds of meteorological data such as precipitation, long and short wave radiation averages and temperature is implemented and its performance is evaluated. The ANN is constructed by adjusting hidden parameters and parameters such as penalty for preventing overfitting. In order to verify the accuracy and validity of the prediction model, we use Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE) as performance indices. The experimental results show that MAPE = 19.54 and MAE = 2155345.10776 when Hidden Layer $Sizes=^{\prime}16{\times}10^{\prime}$.

  • The Saudi Vision 2030 defined the directions of the national economy and market towards diversifying sources of income, and developing energy to become less dependent on oil. The study sought through a theoretical review to identify the reality of the energy sector and the areas of investment available in the field of renewable energy. Findings showed that investment in the renewable energy sector is a promising source according to solar, wind, hydrogen, geothermal energy and burning waste than landfill to extract biogas for less emission. The renewable energy sector faces challenges related to technology, production cost, price, quantity of production and consumption, and markets. The study revealed some recommendations providing and suggested electronic marketing system to provide investors and consumers with energy available from renewable sources.
