CO Sensor Characteristics of ZnO powders by Sol-Gel methods (Sol-Gel법에 의한 ZnO 분말의 CO 센서 특성)

  • ZnO thick films by Sol-Gel processing were investigated electrics, optics and the sensing characteristics of CO gas. Using the znic acetate dihydrate and acetylaceton (AcAc) as a chelating agent, stable ZnO sol was synthesized. ZnO phase was crystallized through the heat-treatment at $70^{\circ}C$ for 4hrs and influenced the sensing characteristics of the electrics and CO gas by uniform particle distributions not related particle size. The samples on the alumina substrate by thick films were investigated the properties of electrics and the effect of sensing. The sensitivity was so excellent in the sample of the heat-treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ for 12hrs and good in the heat-treatment for 1hrs generally. Crystallization and volatilization of organic materials according to the change of heating treatment temperature of thick films were analyzed by TG-DTA, XRD and mirostructure of thick films were observed by SEM.

  • Silicon carbide whiskers ($SiC_w$) having the diameter in the range of 20-80 nm were synthesised from coconut fibres through sol-gel process. The coconut fibres were impregnated with tetraethoxysilane and methyltriethoxysilane derived sol and pyrolyzed at $1400^{\circ}C$ in argon. X-ray of the pyrolyzed samples showed the formation of ${\beta}$-SiC.

  • The oxygen barrier films were formed on poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) substrate by a sol-gel process using aminoalkoxysilanes. The coating layers were characterized by FT-IR and SEM. The oxygen permeability coefficients of coating films were measured by variable volume method, and then the influences of solvent ratio in sol and film drying temperature on the oxygen barrier properties were investigated. The aminoalkoxysilane coating films exhibited much higher oxygen barrier properties than PET film. The oxygen permeability coefficient of the film coated with each of APTEOS and APTMOS was measured to be $2.96{\times}10^{-6}$ and $3.05{\times}10^{-5}\;GPU$, respectively, while that of PET film was $1.16{\times}10^{-4}\;GPU$.

  • Sol-gel법을 이용하여 p-Si 기판위에 yttrium이 도핑된 ZnO (YZO)를 성장하였다. ZnO의 precursor로는 zinc acetate dihydrate를, yttrium의 source로는 yttrium acetate hydrate를 사용하였으며, 용매와 안정제로는 각각 2-methoxy ethanol과 monoethanolamine (MEA)를 사용하였다. yttrium의 doping 농도에 따른 영향을 알아보기 위하여 1~4 at.%로 제작된 YZO sol을 각각 p-type Si 기판에 성장하였으며, 이 후 furnace를 이용하여 500oC에서 1시간 동안 열처리하였다. 성장된 YZO 박막의 표면과 두께를 SEM을 통하여 확인하였으며, XRD를 통한 구조적인 특성을 분석한 결과 모든 박막에서 뚜렷한 c-축 배양성을 갖는 ZnO (0002)피크를 확인하였다. Hall effect를 통하여 YZO는 모두 n-type 특성을 나타낸다는 것을 확인하였으며, 광학적인 특성은 PL을 통해서 분석하였다. n-YZO/p-Si 이종접합의 전류-전압 특성을 분석한 결과 뚜렷한 정류특성을 나타내었다.

Fabrication and characteristics of PZT ferroelectric thin films by Sol-Gel processing and rapid thermal annealing (Sol-gel법과 급속 열처리에 의한 PZT 강유전 박막의 제작과 그 특성)

  • In this study, ferroelectric thin films of PZT with different Zr/Ti ratio were prepared by sol-get processing and annealed by rapid thermal annealing at >$500^{\circ}C$>$-700^{\circ}C$ for 10 sec. -1 min. Structures of the annealed films were examined by X-ray diffraction and SEM. Thin films of PZT with perovskite structure have been obtained by annealing at >$600^{\circ}C$ or above and for 20 seconds or longer. Maximum remnant polarization of 10.24.mu.C/cm$^{2}$ and minimum coercive field of 20.06 kV/cm were obtained from the 56/44 and 65/35 Zr/Ti composition films, respectively. Dielectric constant, .epsilon.$_{r}$ of 500-1300 and dielectric loss, tan .delta., of 0.01-0.035 were obtained from the films.s.

Large Band Gap Attenuation of CdS Nanoclusters after H2S Exposure

  • Large band gap attenuation of CdS nanoclusters in hybrid sol gel matrix comprised of 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (TMSPM), 15 wt. % zirconium, and various amounts of cadmium acetate was observed after $H_2S$ exposure. Hybrid sol gel matrixes were prepared by hydrolysis and condensation reactions. The sol gels contained with various amount of cadmium acetate were spin coated to glass substrates and exposed to $H_2S$ gas. The UV-visible absorption peaks were shifted toward blue with increasing the amount of CdS nanoclusters and were shifted to the red after thermal process. Significant amount of -OH absorption peaks were reduced after thermal process. Strong room temperature photoluminescence (PL) of CdS nanoclusters was observed after exposing to $H_2S$ gas. The PL intensity increased for several minutes and slowly decreased thereafter. The luminescence peaks were continuously shifted toward blue as the time passed. Extraordinary Stokes shift (approximately 160 nm) was observed.

  • The structural variation process of amorphous SiO$_2$ gel upon heat-treatment conditions of 80, 250, 450 and 1000$^{\circ}C$ has been studied by using the radial distribution functions (RDF$_{obs}$) estimated from the X-ray diffraction intensities. The expected gel structure was determined by comparing the RDF$_{obs}$ with those for the other six standard samples selected appropriately. The structure of specimens prepared by sol-gel method is well consistent with that of fused SiO$_2$ (${\beta}$-cristobalite with cubic symmetry) except a slight difference in O-O band distance.

  • In this study, gel powder which had relatively high hydration reactivity in CaO and P2O5 rich composition of CaO-P2O5-SiO2-H2O system was prepared by sol-gel process and its hydrated specimen was manufactured. The it was investigated to appropriate calcination temperature in sol-gel process which hydrated specimen of gel powder have proven to strength and the effect of factors influenced strength in hydration process. The major product of before and after hydration reaction was hydroxyapatite, and crystalline phase of C-S-H was already formed during gelation process. After hydration reaction of pressed specimen, crystalline phase of C-S-P-H was formed. It was hydrated product of silicocarnotite (5CaO.P2O5.SiO2). Gel phases of C-S-H and C-S-P-H occured as a result of partial substitution of amorphous silica by P2O5 was formed. The strength of hydrated hardened body is developed by strong bonding and bridging between the gel phases of C-S-H or C-S-P-H and the crystalline products such as hydroxyapatite, Ca(OH)2 C-S-H and C-S-P-H. In addition, the ultrafine gel powder have an great effect on increase of hydration reaction.

  • The advent of photonic technologies in the field of communications and data transmission has been heavily increasing the demand in integrated optical (IO) circuits capable of accomplishing not only simple tasks like signal, but also more sophisticated functions like all-optical signal routing or active multiplexing/demultiplexing. In the last decade, sol-gel technology has been widely used to prepare optical materials. Sol-gel processes show many promises for the development of low-loss, high-performance glass integrated optical circuits. However, crack formation is likely to occur during heat treatment in thick gel films. In order to overcome the critical thickness limitation, the organic-modified silicate has been widely used. In this case coating matrices have been prepared from the organo-silanes of T structures, acidic catalyst and the as-prepared gel films have been heat-treated below 200$^{\circ}C$ to avoid the crack formation and the degradation of organic components. However, the films prepared in the acidic condition and the low heat temperature make the films contain high OH groups which is the major optical loss function. In this work, C$\sub$6/H$\sub$5/SiO$\sub$1.5/ films were prepared on silicon substrate by sol-gel method using base catalyst in a PTMS/NH$_4$OH/H$_2$O/C$_2$H$\sub$5/OH system. The sol showed spinable viscosity at 50 wt% of solid content, and neglectable viscosity change with time. The films were crack-free and transparent after curing at 450 $^{\circ}C$, and highly condensed to minimize OH content in C$\sub$6/H$\sub$5/SiO$\sub$1.5/ networks. The effects of heat treatment of the films are characterized on the critical thickness, the chemical composition and the refractive indices by means of SEM, FT-IR, TGA, prism coupler, respectively.

Preparation of Y2O2:Eu Red Phosphor by Sol-Gel and Calcination Process (솔-젤 및 소성공정에 의한 이트륨-유로퓸계 적색형광체 제조)

  • In this study sol-gel and combustion process was surveyed for the preparation of the red $Y_2O_3$: Eu phosphor, and the properties of phosphor was considered. Chelation and hydrolysis in amorphous citrate sol-gel process were completed in initial reaction stage, and water-forming condensation was superior to organic acid-forming condensation. The mole ratio of citric acid to metal ion had to be above to for the progress of sol-gel process. The dried gel powders are mostly amorphous, and crystallize completely at $700^{\circ}C$, and the crystallinity increases with increasing calcining temperature. The luminescence property of the phosphor was analyzed by measuring the emission spectra. The luminescence intensity increases when the calcination temperature and concentration of metal ions in solution increase.
