The most drought resistant among the five most important cereal crops, and a key dual-use (grain and biomass) crop in regions containing some of the world's most degraded soils, sorghum has inherent climate resilience that is likely to become more important under environmental conditions that are projected by many climate change models. The importance of sorghum might be further elevated by the development of productive genotypes that increase the extent and duration of soil cover beyond those of conventional annual crops, mitigating or even reversing losses of ecological capital through multiple crops from single plantings. Rich genetic and genomic resources have been developed to link Sorghum phenotypic diversity to its molecular basis, and in particular the genus has become a model for dissecting the molecular control of perenniality. Nature has made Sorghum perennial at least twice, and crosses between wild perennials and cultivated sorghums show the feasibility of developing genotypes with varying degrees of investment in perenniality while still providing harvestable food, feed, sugar and/or cellulose. Genetic analysis of progeny from these crosses is revealing the hereditary basis of traits related to ratooning and perenniality and providing diagnostic DNA markers. One perennial Sorghum species has adapted to continents and latitudes far beyond the reach of its progenitors, surviving stresses year after year that are only periodically experienced by conventional (annual) sorghum, and may also harbor novel alleles that may mitigate production challenges in conventional annual sorghums.
The aim of the study is to select and verify for development of groundwater resources using Geographic Information System(GIS). The water balance, land cover, forest, soil, elevation, slope, hydrogeology and lineament were analyzed. Using GIS, relationship between the data and groundwater yield data was analyzed and the groundwater resources potential map was made for selecting suitable area for groundwater development. Then groundwater resource potential map was verified using groundwater yield data. The verified result showed the good agreement between the potential map and groundwater yield data. The potential map can be used for groundwater management which is related to groundwater development.
Wide-area monitoring of tree-related high impedance fault (THIF) efficiently contributes to increase reliability of large-scaled network, since the failure to early location of them may results in critical lines tripping and consequently large blackouts. In the first place, this wide-area monitoring of THIF requires managing the placement of sensors across large power grid network according to THIF detection objective. For this purpose, current paper presents a framework in which sensors are distributed according to a predetermined risk map. The proposed risk map determines the possibility of THIF occurrence on every branch in a power network, based on electrical conductivity of trees and their positions to power lines which extracted from spectral data. The obtained possibility value can be considered as a weight coefficient assigned to each branch in sensor placement problem. The next step after sensors deployment is to on-line monitor based on moving data window. In this on-line process, the received data window is evaluated for obtaining a correlation between low frequency and high frequency components of signal. If obtained correlation follows a specified pattern, received signal is considered as a THIF. Thereafter, if several faulted section candidates are found by deployed sensors, the most likely location is chosen from the list of candidates based on predetermined THIF risk map.

Rainfall induced landslides is one of the most devastating natural disasters acting on mountainous areas. In Korea, landslide damage areas increase significantly from 1990s to 2000s due to the increase of both rainfall intensity and rainy days in addition with haphazard land development. This study was carried out based on the application of TRIGRS unsaturated (Transient Rainfall Infiltration and Grid-based Regional Slope stability analysis), a Fortran coded, physically based, and numerical model that can predict landslides for areas where are prone to shallow precipitation. Using TRIGRS combining with the geographic information system (GIS) framework, the landslide incident happened on 27th, July 2011 in Mt. Umyeon in Seoul was modeled. The predicted results which were raster maps showed values of the factors of safety on every pixel at different time steps show a strong agreement with to the observed actual landslide scars in both time and locations. Although some limitations of the program are still needed to be further improved, some soil data as well as landslide information are lack; TRIGRS is proved to be a powerful tool for shallow landslide susceptibility zonation especially in great areas where the input geotechnical and hydraulic data for simulation is not fully available.
The ancient underground cities are a collection of self-supporting spaces that have been manually excavated in the soil or rock in the past. Because these structures have a very high cultural value due to their age, the study of their stability under the influence of natural hazards, such as earthquakes, is very important. In this research, while introducing the underground city of Ouyi Nushabad located in the center of Iran as one of the largest man-made underground cities of the old world, the analysis of dynamic stability is performed. For this purpose, the dynamic stress-displacement analysis has been performed through numerical modeling using the finite element software PLAXIS. At this stage, by simulating the Khorgo earthquake as one of the large-scale earthquakes that occurred in Iran, with a magnitude of 6.9 on the Richter scale, dynamic analysis by time history method has been performed on three selected sections of underground spaces. This study shows that the maximum amount of horizontal and vertical dynamic displacement is 12.9 cm and 17.7 cm, respectively, which was obtained in section 2. The comparison of the results shows that by increasing the cross-sectional area of the excavation, especially the distance between the roof and the floor, in addition to increasing the amount of horizontal and vertical dynamic displacement, the obtained maximum acceleration is intensified compared to the mapping acceleration applied to the model floor. Therefore, preventive actions should be taken to stabilize the excavations in order to prevent damage caused by a possible earthquake.

본 연구에서는 새롭게 개발 중인 SSP 시나리오의 일단위 강수량과 온도 자료를 활용하여 청미천 유역의 미래 가뭄의 예측 및 분석을 실시하였다. SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, SSP3-7.0, SSP5-8.5에 따른 새롭게 개발 중인 CMIP6 (Coupled Model Intercomparison Project) GCM (General Circulation Models) 중 ACCESS-ESM1.5(Australian Community Climate and Earth System Simulator model)를 이용하였다. GCM 자료는 Quantile Mapping 방법을 사용하여 편이보정 되었고, 유출분석은 SWAT(Soil and Water Assessment Tool) 모형을 사용하여 청미천 유역에 대해 수행하였다. 청미천 유역의 가뭄분석을 위해 기상학적 가뭄지수인 SPI(Standardized Precipitation Index)와 SPEI(Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index), 수문학적 가뭄지수인 SDI(Standardized Streamflow Index)를 산정하였다.
Landslides are caused by complex interaction among a large number of interrelated factors such as topography, geology, forest and soils. In this study, a comparative study was carried out using fuzzy relationship method and artificial neural network to evaluate landslide susceptibility. For landslide susceptibility mapping, maps of the landslide occurrence locations, slope angle, aspect, curvature, lithology, soil drainage, soil depth, soil texture, forest type, forest age, forest diameter and forest density were constructed from the spatial data sets. In fuzzy relation analysis, the membership values for each category of thematic layers have been determined using the cosine amplitude method. Then the integration of different thematic layers to produce landslide susceptibility map was performed by Cartesian product operation. In artificial neural network analysis, the relative weight values for causative factors were determined by back propagation algorithm. Landslide susceptibility maps prepared by two approaches were validated by ROC(Receiver Operating Characteristic) curve and AUC(Area Under the Curve). Based on the validation results, both approaches show excellent performance to predict the landslide susceptibility but the performance of the artificial neural network was superior in this study area.

This study was conducted to develop a large scale map of species-specific plantation sites based on selected environmental variables such as topography, soil, and climatic factors in Namwon city. Site index equations by tree species were first regressed to 27 environmental variables that could influence the productivity of forest sites using digital forest site maps, digital climate maps, and the 5th National Forest Inventory data. Site index equations by tree species were all evaluated to estimate site productivity using 4-5 environmental variables, and the models' reliability was confirmed based on evaluation statistics. The determination coefficients of site index equations by species ranged from 0.42 to 0.76. With the site index equations, the site conditions appropriate for productive sites by species were considered to assess spatial distribution of productive areas for each species. The final map for optimal plantation in Namwon city was produced based on both site index equations and site conditions appropriate for productive sites by each species using GIS technique. Field survey was conducted to evaluate the suitability of selected species on the map of species-specific plantation sites. Results showed that the plantation map provides relatively reasonable spatial distribution of productive areas for selected species. It was revealed, however, that the sites evaluated as 'not suitable' for any tree species should be revised and complemented with additional information, especially with the site conditions appropriate for productive sites by species of interest. The outcomes of this study are expected to provide information for making customized species-specific plantation maps.
Mapping of salinity distribution in the reclaimed lands was attempted by using the electromagnetic inductance technique. Field study was conducted to monitor ground conductivity with an electromagnetic inductance, EM 38 (Geonics), and electrical conductivity of the saturated extract, ECe of the soils, at the Daeho reclaimed land. EM values of horizontal mode, EMh, and vertical mode, EMv, mode were recorded at the interval of $2m{\times}2m$ from the ground. Soil samples were taken through the profile down to 100cm for calibration. ECe of poor drained area of Daeho, were in the range of $19.50-91.50ds\;m^{-1}$, while ECe of well-drained area ranged from $1.10-34.40ds\;m^{-1}$. Multiple regression equations for the measured EMv, EMh, and ECe were highly significant. The EMh showed higher correlation with ECe than EMv. With the multiple equation, ECgM could be calculated. Correlation between ECe and ECgM was the highest ($r=0.753^{***}$), when EMI readings were taken on the ground. The relationships were highly significant below 30 cm height of measurement, With the EM38 measurement, the salinity distribution was effectively expressed for the experimental filed in Daeho reclaimed land.
The study was conducted to make a map for selecting righteous tree species for each site by digital terrain analysis. We set an algorithmic value for each tree species' characteristics with distribution pattern analysis, and the soil types were digitized from data indicated on soil map. Mean altitude, slope, aspect and micro-topography were estimated from the digital map for each block which had been calculated by regression equations with altitude. The results obtained from the study could be summarized as follows 1. We could develope a method to select righteous tree species for a given site with concern of soil, forest condition and topographic factors on Muju-Gun in Chonbuk province(2,500ha) by the terrain analysis and multi-variate digital map with a personal computer. 2. The brown forest soils were major soil types for the study area, and 29 tree species were occurred with Pinus densiflora as a dominant species. The differences in site condition and soil properties resulted in site quality differences for each tree species. 3. We tried to figure out the accuracy of a basic program(DTM.BAS) enterprised for this study with comparing the mean altitude and aspect calculated from the topographic terrain analysis map and those from surveyed data. The differences between the values were less than 5% which could be accepted as a statistically allowable value for altitude, as well as the values for aspect showed no differences between both the mean altitude and aspect. The result may indicate that the program can be used further in efficiency. 4. From the righteous-site selection map, the 2nd group(R, $B_1$) took the largest area with 46% followed by non-forest area (L) with 23%, the 5th group with 7% and the 4th group with 5%, respectively. The other groups occupied less than 6%. 5. We suggested four types of management tools by silvicultural tree species with considering soil type and topographic conditions.
