  • This paper is experimental study on the effect of improved soil strength which was grouted by pressure grouting method for prevent collapse the tunnel's face during excavate tunnel. This study performs to investigate the proper grouting pressure and grouting method through pressure grouting laboratory model tests using loose dense sandy soil using specially designed and fabricated device($180cm{\times}220cm{\times}300cm$) under changing condition of injection in this test The investigation is carried out through measuring the size and shape of grout bulb, elastic modulus by pressure-meter test Elastic modulus was estimated using relation stress with strain which is result the uni-direction compressive strength test for cured grouted bulb under water during 28days. From these test results, the amount of increased elastic modulus of grouted zone was suggested.

  • Square patterned jet grouting technique is the soil improvement method that shakes the special end monitor left and right like as tail fin and mixing the soil and cement paste after cutting the soil in square shape by injecting the cement paste from installed two nozzles. The structure shape by jet grouting technique can be constructed in various shapes and sizes like as square, circle, and sector form designed by an engineer. Also, it can be constructed without waste material and reduced a construction time of work economically. In this study, the applicability of Square Jet Grouting to reduce permeability is estimated by FEM analysis and in-situ test in many cases which are various coefficient of permeability and breadth of grouting structure.

  • In installation of groundwater wells, grouting materials are injected between the groundwater borehole and the inner casing in order to prevent infiltration of contaminated groundwater from the top soil layers into wells. The injection device of grouting materials is commonly composed of an inlet head device with an expansion packer, a cylinder capable of storing the grouting materials, and an air cylinder. In this work, two types of common grouting materials, silicon and cement materials, were tested for their performances as grouting media. For silicon. silicon was mixed with clay or calcite, and tested for their tensile strength and underwater reactivity. Both silicon-clay and silicon-calcite mixtures had adequate flow and adhesiveness. For cement material, general cement, ultra-rapid harding cement, and natural cement were respectively mixed with three different soil types including coarse-grained granite, fine-grained granite, and gneiss, and direct shearing tests were conducted after hardening. Under grouting depth condition of 30 m, the minimum adhesive strength was greater for weathered gneiss than non-weathered gneiss with its maximum values obtained from the mixtures of ultra rapid-harding cement.

  • The use of compaction grouting evolved in 1950's to correct structural settlement of buildings. Over the almost 50 years, the technology has been developed and is currently used in wide range of applications. Compaction grouting, the injection of a very stiff, 'zero-slump' mortar grout under relatively high pressure, displaces and compacts soils. It can effectively repair natural or man-made soil strength deficiencies in variety of soil formations. Major applications of compaction grouting include densifying loose soils or fill voids caused by sinkholes, poorly compacted fills, broken utilities, improper dewatering, or soft ground tunneling excavation. Other applications include preventing liquefaction, re-leveling settled structures, and using compaction grout bulbs as structural elements of minipiles or underpinning. In this paper, on the basis of the case history constructed in this year, a study has been performed to analyze the basic mechanism of the compaction grouting. Also, the effectiveness of the ground improvement and the bearing capacity of the compaction pile has been verified by the Cone Penetration Test(CPT) and Load Test. Relatively uniform compaction grouting column could be maintained by planning the quality control in the course of grouting. And, the Qualify Control Plan has been conceived using grout pressure, volume of grout and drilling depth.

  • Application of soil grouting method was adopted to reduce the vibration amplitude which propagates from the source. The direct formulation of the Boundary Element Method was applied to make the numerical model of soil. It was found form this study that the most effective location of the grouting layer is directly under the source of the vibration and the width of the grouting layer does not need to be longer than the required width which can be determined by numerical analysis.

  • The soil nailing system at permanent slope reinforcement is used with various facing methods in Korea. Also, pressure-injected grout technique is variously applied to many structures. However, most design of the pressure-injected grout technique have been carried out empirically because of complicated mechanisms associated with the behavior of surrounding soils and the hardening process of cement grout. Therefore this study, a newly modified soil nailing technology named as the PGSN (Pressure Grouting Soil Nailing) system with fabric form is developed to increase the global stability. Up to now, the PGSN system has been estimated mainly focusing on an establishment of the design procedure. In the present study, numerical study are carried out to evaluate potential failure surface and minimum factor of safety including facing stiffness and expanded radius of cemented grout by SSR (Shear Strength Reduction) technique. Also, results of numerical analysis are carried out for the typical section of soil nails slope using $FLAC^{2D}$ program for expanded effective radius by pressure grouting.

  • As grouting materials for ground improvement, silicate materials such as water glass, silica-sol and so forth are used worldwide. However, they may pollute underground water. In this study, fish poison test(Korean standard industrial code KS M 0111) which estimates toxicity for fish is applied to evaluate the toxic effect by grouting materials. From the test result of the sample made of LW, LC50(Median Lethal Concentration) reaches within 24 hours. In case of the silica-sol, it does not even in 96 hours. Therefore, we can conclude that the sililca-sol grouting method is more free from the danger of underground water pollution. From the result that the mortality of fish under the condition of pH 8.6 is 0% within 96 hours, the groundwater can be saved by controlling pH below 8.6 for the grouting in the field.

  • Bottom-up multi-stage pressure grouting is widely applied to domestic slopes and tunnels. It involves injecting earth from the ground to the surface after drilling. Various reports of construction performance have demonstrated its wide applicability. However, little research has studied top-down multi-step pressure grouting in Korea, which involves injection from the surface. This paper compares the grouting effect of both the established bottom-up method and the top-down method in soil box and field tests. The soil box test showed that the bulb volume of the top-down method is ~24% less than that of the bottom-up method. The field test confirmed that the top-down method has a wider grouting range and a higher injection density per area than the bottom-up method.
