This study was carried out to examine the effects of soil sulfur mixture on the control apple valsa canker in apple orchard for two years. In organic apple orchard, The recovery percentages of apple valsa canker were compared among control (no treatment), lime sulfur, and soil sulfur in organic orchards. In conventional apple orchards, those of recovery percentages were compared among control, neoasozin, lime sulfur, and soil sulfur. Compared with control, soil sulfur treatments significantly improved the recovery percentages of apple valsa canker infected trees in organic orchard. However, there were no differences between lime sulfur and soil sulfur treatment in organic apple orchard, except BongHyun orchard experiment in 2013. Compared with control fruit qualities, fruit skin red color and fruit firmness were improved in lime sulfur and soil sulfur treatment, respectively. In conventional orchard, apple trees treated with lime sulfur, soil sulfur or neoasozin improved recovery percentages, compared with those of control trees. Soil sulfur treatments recovered 87.5~97.5% of infected 'Fuji'/MM106 apple trees in organic and conventional apple orchards. The trees applied with neoasozin showed significant lower shoot growth than those of soil sulfur treatment in conventional orchard. Soli sulfur treatment improved fruit red color, but did not affected fruit weight, fruit firmness, soluble solids concentrations, and titratable acidity.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of soil amendments for reducing soil compaction at heavy traffic area in golf course. Major results of this research are summarized at follows: 1. In the Lab. experiment, the porosity was improved significantly when the materials, such as peatmoss, charcoal, and tire chip mixtures were used respectively. Especially mixture of sand and 20% peatmoss showed higher effectiveness (10%) in porosity, comparing with ordinary sand. This soil mixture(sand 80%+peatmoss 20%) was observed the best in water retention, soil hardness and hydrauric conductivity. 2. In the greenhouse experiment, traffic pressure was given 7 times a day on several combination of mixture treatments to see the top dry weight. The soil mixture of 20% peatmoss showed the highest in the top dry weight. When the more traffic pressure(15 time/day) were given on the different treatment, the top dry weight was significantly reduced. However, the mixture of 20% peatmoss also had the least influence on this type of heavy traffic. 3. In the field experiment, the soil amendments were treated in traffic area f golf course, and observed at 30days, 60days, 90days, 120days after treatment. Visual turf quality(color), root length and soil compaction were compared to those of control. As a result, overall treatments with soil amendments were effective, which showed better turf quality and less soil compaction. 4. In the field test, physical characters of soil (such as soil hardness and hydrauric conductivity) in sand+tire chip+peatmoss(60:20:20, %, v/v) treatment was significantly improved. Also in the slow increasing of traffic, the soil compaction was the most effective in reducing soil hardness.

In this study, we have compared the relative importance of various washing condition affecting on soil release for P/C blended fabrics. P/C blended fabrics were soiled by the pad-dry method with aqueous and oily soil. The washing procedures of soiled samples were performed by Atlas Launder-Ometer with 27 wash conditions which are combinations of wash temp. wash time and detergent cone. The degree of soil-release was evaluated with CIE 1976 Lab color difference before and after washing. Multiple regression analysis was used to evaluate the optimum wash conditions and the relative importance of the factors providing maximum soilremoval.
This experiment was carried out to study an effect of organic fertilizer, IBDU complex and humate on the growth of creeping bentgrass(penncross) and the change of soil chemical characteristics. Results obtained are summarized as follows :1.Content of a total nitrogen in soil was increased in more IBDU complex and organic fertilizer than humate plot. 2.Content of a organic matter in soil was increased in organic fertiliter and humate plot. 3.CEC in soil was improved a little in humate-granular plot. 4.The yield of dry weight and leaf color 'was increased in more organic fertilizer than humate plot. 5.Root length was the most effective in humate plot.

The main purpose of this study is to seek desalinization effect of subsurface drainage system with rice hull packing in Dae-Ho Reclaimed Land. After 4 years installed sub-surface drainage system, distribution of drained water electric conductivity (ECw) was 4.43~12.78 ds/m. The soil profile showed partial development of the soil structure and compaction of subsoils with increased bulk density. The bulk density of the subsoil was 1.42~1.66 g/cm$^3$, which might limit root growth. The soil color changed near the drainage pipe line. Distribution of soil extract solution ECe and SAR as subsurface drainage pipe position and drainage canal distance showed desalinization effect of subsurface drainage system with rice hull packing as widening effective zone of subsurface drainage pipe.
Carbon black has been used as a particulate soil to prepare artificial soiled fabrics for detergent study but it has two major defects. The one is the difficulty of quantitative analysis of carbon black for evaluate the detergency, the other is that there is no reliable correlation between the removal of carbon black and oily soil which is the major component of natural soil. In this study ferric oxinate was used as a particulate soil since it is in black color and can be soiled on fabric by suspension in water or by solution in chloroform and it is easily analysed quantitatively by extracting it from soiled fabric with chloroform to get correct value of soil removal. The characteristics of soil removal of ferric oxinate were compared with that of carbon black and Sudan black, an oil soluble dye, which had been proved that it's detergency correlated with that of oily soil The soil removal of ferric oxinate and Sudan black estimated from quantitative analysis and from K/S value were in good agreement whereas the result calculated by simple reflectance was consistently low. The soil removal of ferric oxinate was exceeded from that of carbon black without regard to surfactants, Triton and Las, but the effect of washing conditions such as temperature and washing time on soil removal of both soils with different suffactants showed no considerable difference. Though the soil removal of Sudan black was little effected by the conditions, the soil removal in Triton exceeded considerably that of in Las, which is the characteristic of oily soil. Thus the soil removal of Sudan black was in good agreement with ferric oxinate in Triton, a non-ionic surfactant, and with carbon black in Las, an artionic surfactant. We concluded that ferric oxinate is a more realistic model particulate soil for artificial soiled cotton fabric washed with non-ionic surfactant than carbon black.

Surface color is the most important quality factor for the grade evaluation of cherry tomato. Color is one of the representative indicators for the maturity which is closely related to the internal quality of cherry tomato, such as firmness, sugar content, and acidity. This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between surface color and internal quality of cherry tomatoes harvested from both hydroponic and soil culture at different ripening stages. To calculate the color values of cherry tomatoes an automatic color imaging system was constructed. A specially designed image processing algorithm for the color measurement was developed. The color values of L*, a*, b* were calculated from the initial color values of RGB and then compared with the internal quality. Statistical analyses indicated that the internal quality was more highly correlated with the surface color than size of cherry tomatoes. Color image features were also investigated to detect external damage of cherry tomatoes. The value of (R value - R mean value)/R mean value was the most effective image feature for the detection of damaged areas on the surface of cherry tomatoes. The results of this study demonstrated the feasibility of color sorting process as an alternative of the conventional drum type size sorting system for cherry tomato industry.
Bad drainage problems from paddy fields adjacent to roads are caused by higher constructed roads which change topography of paddy fields to concave topography and artificial pan to prevent road erosion when road constructions are occurred. This study investigated effects of topography changes on soils by road constructions. Soil samples were investigated by physico-chemical analyses and micromorphology analyses from representative soil profile of Sachon series and soil samples. The characteristics of Sachon series that were adjacent to roads were fewer redoximorphic features (RMF) and increase in grey layers than the original Sachon series. The characteristics of Yecheon Series were shown from Jeollanamdo - Suncheon > Chungchungnamdo - Cheonan > Gangwondo - Wonju. Mosaic speckles were shown from micromorphological analyses because of repeat of shrink and expansion by wetting and drying. The location of graying in soil clods were found from coarse stone blocks to fine stone blocks and color changes of composed particles were also found.
This paper presents soil-gas surveying technique to delineate an area contaminated with volatile organic compounds, which are common solvents and constituents of gasoline. The sampling method of soil-gas surveying is 1) grab sampling, which actively takes sample using a pump, or 2) passive sampling, which takes sample through diffusion in a trap filled with absorbent. The grab sampling shows the level of contamination at a certain location at a certain time, while the passive sampling shows the change in the contamination at a certain location. The analysis of soil gas can be performed with 1) a small portable detectors such as PID (photoionization detector) or FID (flame-ionization detector) to measure the total hydrocarbon in the soil gas, 2) a gas detector tube, which is filled with indicator reagents and changes its color with concentrations of the gas of interest, or 3) a portable GC (gas chromatograph), which can analyze different compounds simultaneously. The soil-gas surveying technique is a much less expensive method to investigate area contaminated volatile organic compounds and thus can be used as a screening tool to identify an area, which needs to be further investigated.
Variation of soil characteristics and purity were examined within mapping unit and estimates were given for the number of samples required to reach predetermined levels of accuracy for black soil, VDBr. soil, DBr. soil, and brown soil in Jeju. Variation of chemical properties except pH and CEC was higher than that of physical properties. Brown soil showed the lowest variation and hence required the smallest sample size. The soils examined were correctly classified with regard to brown soil at purity 74.1, to DBr. soil 60.8, to black soil 55.6, and to VDBr. soil 46.9%. Sample calculation was presented which showed approximate sample sizes required to detect the difference of 10 and 20% of the mean with 0.95 confidence level.
