This study was carried out to determine the effects of sodium alginate and cellulose on the cholesterol metabolism in cholesterol-fed rats. Thirty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to three dietary treatments. Rats were fed, ad libitum, diets containing 10% dietary fibers as sodium alginate, cellulose or fiber-free with 1% cholesterol for 4 weeks. The results obtained were as follows: the feeding of sodium alginate with 1% cholesterol induced a significant decrease in plasma cholesterol and TG. The feeding of sodium alginate significantly decreased hepatic total lipids and TG levels, whereas the feeding of sodium alginate significantly increased hepatic HMG-CoA reductase activity. The feeding of sodium alginate and cellulose significantly increased fecal cholesterol and bile acid excretion. The excretion of TG in sodium alginate group, however, was two-fold and four-fold increased compared to cellulose and fiber-free group, respectively. As a result of this study, the ingestion of sodium alginate decreased plasma cholesterol and TG concentrations and liver TG concentration. This may be explained by the facts that fecal cholesterol, bile acid and TG level were increased significantly in sodium alginate group. The increased hepatic HMG-CoA reductase activity by sodium alginate feeding appears to be corresponded to whole-body cholesterol homeostasis.

Studies were carried out to establish the technology for sodium-clad compatibility and to analyze the compatibility behavior of the Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor (SFR) cladding material under a flowing sodium environment. The natural circulation facility caused by the thermal convection of the liquid sodium was constructed and the 316-series stainless steels were exposed at $650{^{\circ}C}$ liquid sodium for 1458 hours. The weight change and related microstructural change were analyzed. The results showed that the quasi-dynamic facility represented by the natural convection exhibited similar results compared to the conventional dynamic facility. Selective leaching and local depletion of the chromium, re-distribution of the carbide, and the decarburization process took place in the 316-series stainless steel under a flowing sodium environment. This process decreased as the sodium flowed along the channel, which was caused by the change in the dissolved oxygen and carbon activity in the liquid sodium.
Growth studies of Catenaria anguillulae isolates in response to sodium chloride indicated that all the isolates grew in linseed oil-cake agar medium containing sodium chloride up to 1.0%. Medium with 1.5% sodium chloride, however, completely checked the growth of all the isolates. The size of zoosporangia greatly increased with abundant zoospore production in medium containing sodium chloride at 0.5%.
Twenty sodium-cooled fast reactors (SFRs) have provided valuable experience in design, licensing, and operation. This paper summarizes the important safety criteria and safety guidelines of intermediate sodium systems, steam generators, decay heat removal systems and associated construction materials and in-service inspection. The safety criteria and guidelines provide a sufficient framework for design and licensing, in particular by new entrants in SFRs.
Studies the reaction mechanism and optimal reaction condition of the process of preparing sodium isocyanate, by means of heating of sodium carbonate and urea. Proposing, at the sametime, the quantitative analyzing method of sodium isocyanate in the presence of impurities of $Na_{2}CO_{3}$, urea and biuret. 1. Sodium isocyanate could be prepared by means of heating reaction of sodium carbonate and urea. 2. Adding urea into the heated sodium carbonate is reasonable. 3. Quantitative analysis of sodium isocyanate in the presence of impurities, $Na_{2}CO_{3}$, urea and biuret could be done by the following method:-adding nitrobarite solution into sample solution in order to remove $CO_{3}"$ and neutralize the solution, filtering off $BaCO_{3}$, and then precipitating isocyanate as a silver salt, filtering off AgNCO, and then, titrating remaining $AgNO_{3}$ with $NH_{4}SCN$, (indicator $FeNH_{4}(SO_{4})_{2})$/TEX>
The purpose of this study was to investigate the sodium intake of office workers using 24-hour urine analysis and to analyze the correlation matrix between variables. The sodium intake of the subjects (n = 137), based on a 24-hr sodium excretion period, was male (n = 56) 6072.4 mg and female (n = 81) 5,168.2 mg. Urinary sodium excretion showed significant positive correlation with BMI, frequency of eating out, expenditure of eating out, salty taste assessment and high-salt dietary behavior. Analysis of urinary sodium excretion showed significant positive correlation with intake frequencies of cabbage kimchi, broiled fish, feast noodle and rice with leaf wraps. Based on the results of multiple regression, urinary sodium excretion was found to be related to intake frequencies of cabbage kimchi, broiled fish, rice with leaf wraps and high score of high-salt dietary behavior.
Liquid sodium is widely used as a coolant of LMR(Liquid Metal Reactor) because of its physical and nuclear properties. However, the liquid sodium is very chemically reactive with oxygen and water so that the study on the sodium fire plays an important role in the LMR safety analysis. In this study, a sodium fire model is suggested to analyze the sodium pool fire where both the flame and the reaction products are considered. And also, sodium pool fire analysis computer code, SOPA, is developed. The sensitivity study on the experimental parameters such as the thermal radiation from flame to atmospheric gas, the vessel cooling and the duration of sodium spill was performed. The results showed good agreements with experimental data in the literature.
The safety level of Sodium Fast Reactors is directly related with the sodium void reactivity. A low-void effect design has been proposed within the Horizon2020 ESFR-SMART project thanks to the introduction of a sodium plenum above the active core. In order to assess the impact of this core conception on transient analysis, a map with the spatial distribution of sodium void worth can be computed and fed into a point-kinetics-based transient code. Due to the spatial correlations between neighboring zones, the global effect of voiding two different axial or radial regions is not necessarily the sum of both individual contributions. Neglecting those correlations in the void worth map and consequently in the transient analysis may lead to an unrealistic prediction of the transient sequences. In this work, a method based on sensitivity analysis and similarity assessment is proposed for predicting those correlations. The method proved to be able to establish correlations between axial slices of a sub-assembly and was checked against realistic sodium void propagation patterns.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of concentration and temperature on the bactericidal action of sodium hypochlorite by means of comparing the killing time of several kinds of microorganism on each different concentration and temperature of sodium hypochlorite. The results were as follows: 1. As the concentration of sodium hypochlorite was increased, the bactericidal action of sodium hypochlorite was increased in all specimens. 2. The bactericidal action of sodium hypochlorite at $37^{\circ}C$ was more potent than that of sodium hypochlorite at $21^{\circ}C$. 3. Among the 3 experimental microorganisms, Pseudomonas aeruginosa was the most resistant to sodium hypochlorite, then comes staphylococcus aureus, and the least resistant microorganism was Streptococcus mutans.

Modal fabric was pretreated with sodium hydroxide, sodium persulfate, and their combined mixture by pad-steaming procedure. The tearing strength of the pretreated modal fabric was measured for subsequent microfibrillation. The solubility of modal fiber in sodium hydroxide solution was highest at 10 % concentration of sodium hydroxide. Extended steaming of the modal fabric padded with 6% sodium hydroxide solution did not reduce the tearing strength appreciably. 2% sodium persulfate pretreatment greatly reduced the tearing strength of modal fabric within 7 minutes of steaming time. The pretreatment with combined composition of sodium hydroxide and sodium persulfate brought about stable reduction in tearing strength within 1 minute of steaming time, which would be appricable to the continuous pretreatment of modal fabric for microfibrillation. Microfibrillation behavior of the pretreated modal fabric was tested also.
