Six middle-aged and older women with physical disabilities or brain lesions selected four themes through group discussion and shared their experiences using photos they took that reflect the four themes: my worsening health and the way I manage my health (identifying red flags for ill health, trying to coping with poor health), my leisure life (my limited leisure activities, enjoying my own leisure time), my social participation (participating in social activities that give me pleasure, participating in social activities to help make a better society), and my later life (worryingabout financial hardships and being alone in my later life, hoping for happiness in my later life). The method of this research was based on the comparison analysis of polls taken in Korea and Japav. The results of this research are as follows: Because the polls show that the elderly want to continue their current life-style after placed in a elderly-care facility, when designing housing for the elderly, it must not be considered separate from the general society. it must be designed in way so that the residents can fully interact with the general society. Also, in order to achieve above goals, social welfare policies must be reconsidered to meet the needs of the aged populatiov.

For conducting this study, a survey method was used on 318 males with parents at the aged of 45-60, residing in Daegu and KyungPook. In order for subjects to verify research questions, structural equation models were explored. The findings of the study supported the direct, indirect effect and moderating effects, which suggested in research questions. Participants with unhealthy parents showed greater tendency in terms of influencing their intimacy toward parents on care giving commitment than participants with healthy parents did. The above findings claimed our attention in that provided a range of practical implication.

  • This study examined the longitudinal changes of self-perceptions of own aging among middle-aged and elderly adults, using the latent growth modeling with the three waves of the "Aging and the Quality of Life of the Elderly in Korea", which sampled adults aged over 45 living in Seoul and Chuncheon. The dependent variable is attitudes toward own aging, the sub-scale of the Philadelphia Geriatric Center Morale Scale developed by Lawton (1975). The results showed that the research participants' attitudes of their own aging deteriorated over time. In addition, the lower initial status of the research participants' attitudes of their own aging was associated with being older, being non-married, living in rural areas, attaining the lower level of education, having the fewer social activities, reporting the worse subjective economic status, and reporting the worse subjective health status. The slope of the research participants' attitudes of their own aging differed by the residence areas, educational attainments, subjective economic status and subjective health status. In particular, the difference of the initial status by educational attainments grew over time. Social welfare policy and practice implications are discussed for middle-aged and elderly adults to improve attitudes toward their own aging.

  • To make provision for the super-aged society, the senior welfare facility which is a kind of typical physical environment of the nursing service would be expected to perform a very important role in local community. This study was conducted to identify the constructs of the servicescapes of senior welfare facility and to draw analysis indicators of it. For this, we performed literature review based on domestic & foreign government guide, service marketing theory and interior architectural results concerning the physical environment of the senior welfare facility. The result of this study showed as follows: servicescapes of the senior welfare facility could be explained as "a whole set of physical environment to support a variety of services provided by the senior welfare facility for the elderly or services of the kind of tangible clues". Analysis indicators of the senior welfare facility's servicescape could be explained as five factors: safety factor, functional factor, aesthetic factor, ambient factor and social factor. In addition we developed 37 pieces of detailed factors referred to five factors. The evaluation and verification of analysis indicators was carried out through 8 experts in-depth interviews. We inspected importance factor using a 5-point Likert scale, therefore safety factor was 4.41, functional factor was 4.27, aesthetic factor was 3.66, ambient factor was 4.20 and social factor was 4.25. More than anything else, in this study, there is a sense that it has established the concept of servicescape adapted to the senior welfare facility and contained a social element between the employees and the physical environment. Theoretical and practical implications of findings are discussed, and future research directions are proposed. we expect to be a little or benefits to the senior welfare facility corresponding to the future of the super-aged society.
