Household, personal, and financial determinants of surrender in Korean health insurance

  • In insurance, the surrender rate is an important variable that threatens the sustainability of insurers and determines the profitability of the contract. Unlike other actuarial assumptions that determine the cash flow of an insurance contract, however, it is characterized by endogenous variables such as people's economic, social, and subjective decisions. Therefore, a microscopic approach is required to identify and analyze the factors that determine the lapse rate. Specifically, micro-level characteristics including the individual, demographic, microeconomic, and household characteristics of policyholders are necessary for the analysis. In this study, we select panel survey data of Korean Retirement Income Study (KReIS) with many diverse dimensions to determine which variables have a decisive effect on the lapse and apply the lasso regularized regression model to analyze it empirically. As the data contain many missing values, they are imputed using the random forest method. Among the household variables, we find that the non-existence of old dependents, the existence of young dependents, and employed family members increase the surrender rate. Among the individual variables, divorce, non-urban residential areas, apartment type of housing, non-ownership of homes, and bad relationship with siblings increase the lapse rate. Finally, among the financial variables, low income, low expenditure, the existence of children that incur child care expenditure, not expecting to bequest from spouse, not holding public health insurance, and expecting to benefit from a retirement pension increase the lapse rate. Some of these findings are consistent with those in the literature.

북한이탈주민의 외상 경험 이후 심리적 성장 (Posttraumatic Growth Among North Korean Refugees)

  • 본 연구는 남한에 장기 거주하는 북한 이탈 주민의 외상 경험 이후 심리적 성장 요인을 이해하기 위해서 실시되었다. 이를 위해서 남한 거주기간이 평균 7년 이상되는 탈북 주민 105명을 대상으로 외상 경험 이후 심리적 성장, 인구사회학적 요인, 개인 및 사회적 요인, 정신건강 요인, 북한 및 탈북과정의 외상과 남한 사회 스트레스를 측정하여 관련 변인들의 영향력을 분석하였다. 그 결과 북한에서의 학력과 제3국에서의 거주기간에 따라 PTG에 유의한 차이가 있었다. 탈북일, 우울, 문화적응스트레스, 미래에 대한 희망, 남한출신으로부터의 사회적지지, 인식된 만족은 PTG 와 유의한 상관이 있었다. PTG 예측요인으로 탈북일, 제3국체류기간, 문화적응스트레스 그리고 남한출신으로부터의 사회적지지로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 정신건강 및 사회정책적 개입의 필요성을 논의하였다.

소형주택 주거만족 요인 연구 -인구통계변인에 따른 고객특성그룹 중심으로- (A Study on the Effect of Customer Satisfaction Factors of Small Sized Housing, by Demographic Customer Group)

  • 본 연구는 소형주택의 주거만족요인을 인구통계특성 그룹별로 세분화하여 연구하였다. 연구그룹은 전체 그룹과 그리고 남녀 성별로(2그룹), 연령대별로(3그룹), 기혼과 미혼이라는 혼인별로(2그룹)하여 총 8개 그룹으로 세분화하였고 주거만족요인은 사회적특성, 경제적특성, 접근성, 외부쾌적성, 물리적특성, 생활편리성 등으로 분류하여 분석하였다. 연구결과는 소형주택의 경제적특성 요인이 대부분의 그룹에서 주거만족에 가장 큰 영향력을 미치는 요인으로 나타났다. 다음으로는 생활편리성이 유의하게 영향을 미쳤다. 그러나 물리적 특성은 전체그룹에서 낮은 영향력을 보이거나 유의하지 않았다. 기타 주거만족요인들은 각각의 그룹별로 주거만족에 미치는 영향이 다르게 나타났다.

The Relationship Between Demographic Characteristics of Committee Members and Corporate Social Responsibility Commitment: Evidence from Thailand

  • This study aims to consider the role of women serving in the executive committee of the company and determine how it related to corporate social and environmental responsibilities (CSR and ESR). The data was collected from the 344 companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) between 2013 and 2014. Especially, the CSR and ESR data was collected from the annual report and used to measure activities related to environmental and social responsibilities of companies listed on the SET. This study employed panel analysis regression to analyze the relationship between dependent and independent variables. The results indicated that the role of women who served in the executive committees of companies listed on SET had a positive impact on the social and environmental responsibilities of companies listed on the SET. The Granger causality test showed that the proportion of women holding positions on the board of directors had a statistically significant relationship with CSR and ESR, which is a unidirectional relationship. Moreover, the size of the company and the return to total assets also have a positive significant relationship with the CSR and ESR.

남성의 일-가정 양립 실태와 요구도 (A Study on the Condition and Need of Work-Family Balance)

  • This study analyzes the balance between work and family in married, working men and investigates their need to create this balance. Data from 253 married men was collected and analyzed. The index for the questionnaire was developed using the scale from the Second National Survey of Korean Families and related research. The results show that married, working men are slightly better at balancing their work and family lives than average. Furthermore, the effects of job-related variables were higher than the effects of other social-demographic variables. Job flexibility was the major variable that determined the balance between work and family. The highest need to balance between work and family was monetary support for caring and educating children. This paper concludes that in order to improve the work-family balance, the current working culture has to be changed, and various policies and strategies that encourage a family-friendly working culture must be implemented.

의료서비스에 대한 서비스 부문별 중요도와 만족도에 관한연구 (A Study on the Degree of Importance of Medical Service Sector and Consumer Satisfaction of Service Quality)

  • The purpose of this paper was to discover the importance and degree of satisfaction toward medical service perceived by clients and analize some characteristics and any siginificant difference by deomographic and social variables. In addition the subjects were divided into groups(i. e. satisfied and dissatisfied groups) and tested significant difference between two groups, The results can be summerized as follows: 1,. While the importance of over attributes of medical services percevied by customs was higher the degree of satisfaction was relatively low. 2. According to our analysis the degree of satisfaction toward hospital facilities and staff appeared to have relatively have relatively heavy weights compared to total satisfaction scores. 3. As far customers' quality evaluation about medical service is concerned the importance and degree of satisfaction could not be discriminated by demographic variables except education and income level. 4. The discrepancy of satisfaction s ore between satisfied and dissatisfied group was the highest in hospital facilities compared to other three sectors.

중년기여성의 위기감과 대처에 관한 연구 (A Study of Coping Behavior with Midaged Women's Crisis)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out midaged women's crisis and ways to overcome it. Another purpose is to improve their qualities of life and to provide basic data to develop their potentials. The results are as follows: First, it shows that socio-demographic characteristics have a significant influence on midaged women's crisis. Those variables include religion, jobs, family-life cycle, income, marriage duration, age, and supporting parents. Second, the variables significantly influencing the coping behavior with the crisis include age, income, religion, marriage patterns, region, marriage duration, family-life cycle, and supporting parents. Third, as a result of this research, their negative expression of action or emotion was higher as they were getting old. The general tendency was that an emotional crisis level was low when rational coping behaviors were high. Therefore, self-esteem or social activity improvement programs should be developed for midaged women.

외모가꾸기 행동의 결정요인 분석 (The Determinants of Appearance Management Behaviors)

  • Recently 'lookism' is prevalent in Korean society. Lookism is a thought that one of causes of unequality of the mankinds is the appearance. The appearance is not only endowed but is made by efforts. Korean market related beauty including cosmetics occupied over $15billion. The purpose of this study is to find the determinants of the appearance management behaviors. Considering social characteristics of Korea and previous literatures, Collectivism, body image were chosen as an explaining variables. And self-esteem, attitudes toward sex roles and the shopping orientation and some demographic variables were selected. For the data analysis, 514 questionnaire for male and female in Daegu were collected. The determinants of appearance management behaviors were perceived level of living, concerns toward thinness, shopping orientation, appearance evaluation, female, family oriented thinking, belief in appearance power, attitude toward sex roles.

대학생들의 직업가치관에 관한 연구 -패션 관련 학생을 중심으로- (A Study on the Work Values of the College Students -Focused on the Clothing and Textiles Majoring College Students-)

  • The objectives of this study were to identify the work values of the college students, and to verify the relationship between demographic variables and the work value inventory. Data were collected from college students majoring clothing and textiles(N=307). Convenient sampling was performed. The work value inventory used in this study was modified on the one designed by Meitus. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, t-test and F-test. The findings of this study were as follows : First, as a result of factor analysis, dimensions of work value consists of 8 factors, including income, achievement, status, social contribution, stability, responsibility, capability and vocational contribution. Second, job experience, grade and parent's educational background and occupation were the major variables determining students' work values.

일부 한국 성인의 전곡류 섭취빈도와 동기부여, 행동강화, 행동가능 요인간의 연관성 (Relations of Whole Grain Consumption with Predisposing, Reinforcing, and Enabling Factors among Korean Adults)

  • This study compared levels of whole grain consumption-related predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling factors according to socio-demographic variables, and examined how these factors are associated with whole grain consumption frequency among Korean adults. A survey questionnaire was administered to a convenience sample of adult males and females aged 20~59 years (n=300). The questionnaire included questions on predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling factors in relation to whole grain consumption as well as a brief whole grain food frequency questionnaire. Female subjects showed a significantly higher level of negative beliefs on health nutrition taste texture while showing a significantly lower level of social support compared to that of males. The age group of 40~59 years showed a significantly higher social support level than the age group of 20~39 years. Results from multivariate regression analyses showed that different combinations of predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling variables were significant in predicting whole grain consumption frequency according to sex and age. The study findings can be used for developing specific target-oriented nutrition intervention programs for promotion of whole grain intake among Korean adults.
