The purpose of this study was to examine the degree of depression in housewives and to analyze the effects of psychosocial factors on the depression. Especially the focus was on the differences in the degree of depression and the influencing factors on depression between those in early adulthood and those in middle adulthood The subjects consisted of 130 early adulthood housewives and 142 middled adulthood housewives. They asked to complete several self-report measures that were used to assess the variables of interest. The result indicated that the depression in housewives were serious enough to arouse social workers' attention. The average housewives were suffered from mild depression, and 17.1% of the housewives were in need of professional treatment. There was no significant difference in the degree of depression between the early adulthood housewives and the middle adulthood housewives. There were, however, differences in the factors which explain and predict the depression between these two groups. The results of step-wise multiple regression analysis indicated that the factors which predict the depression for the early adulthood housewives were self-esteem, conflict with the spouse, experience of painful events, age, and conflict with the children. On the other hand, the factors which predict the depression for the middle adulthood housewives were self-esteem, conflict with the spouse, job, and income. Implications of the findings for social work interventions were discussed.
The conflict between upstream and downstream regions is a representative social conflict in Korea. It is important issues in the economic and environmental aspects related to interests of property rights and water quality conservation. however, it is insufficient for studies on the economic damage and benefits between upstream and downstream by policy. We studied validity for drinking water protect zone, one of the major water conflict in Korea, by comparison between social loss by property rights restriction in the upstream and social benefits in the downstream and we proposed integrated water management policy in basin level.

This study attempts to identify the structure of class conflict in Korea and to suggest an alternative framework for a empathetic society. The objective and subjective level of satisfaction with life and class consciousness are in direct proportion, and status consistency signifies polarization. Distorted distribution structures and cultural values make income disparity and property disputes widen, which in turn lead to educational divides and status fixations, refracting or blocking the possibility of social mobility. By overcoming the COVID-19 crisis, it is not appropriate to go back to the past but to correct wrong consciousness and practices in the past, and the consistency between the state and members of society must be re-established. Through the process of innovation at the economic, global, and digital level, a major transformation is required in the new normal era, which prioritizes social development for human values. The conflict resolution depends on the solidarity of the community as a social foundation, since an empathetic society needs the trust and communication of the members of the society.

The data were analyzed by t-test, Pearson's correlation, simple regression, enter regression(using SPSS 12.1). Major findings were as follows: (1) Parents' conflict was significantly associated with children's depression in low income and non-low income family. (2) Parents' conflict was significantly associated with parents' child-rearing in low income and non-low income family. (3) Parents' conflict partially exerted indirect effect on children's depression, controlled by parents' child-rearing in low income and non-low income family. The effect of parents' child-rearing as mediation was higher in low-income family than in non-low income family.

This study aims to examine the characteristics of YouTube space, focusing on YouTube contents related to conflict. From 2012 to 2022, conflict-related contents posted on YouTube was collected and the major topics and characteristics were identified through topic modeling analysis. The results reveal that YouTube contents related to conflict consisted mainly of news reports on social structural conflicts and broadcast programs dealing with family conflicts. These results make us worry that YouTube space will function as a means of generating profits for existing broadcasting contents rather than expecting that it can be used as the public sphere for conflict-related issues. It is time for in-depth discussions on how our society will use YouTube in the future.
In this study of the influence of marital conflict and of children's temperament and emotion regulation on problem behavior, 194 mothers of 3- to 5-year-old children responded to the O'Leary- Poter Scale(1980), the Emotionality, Activity and Shyness scale(Buss & Plomin, 1984) and the Emotion Regulation Checklist(Shields & Cicchetti, 1997); teachers rated children's behavior on the Problem Behavior Questionnaire(Behar & Stringfield, 1974). Data were analyzed by independent t-tests, correlations, and multiple regressions. Results demonstrated that shyness, activity, and emotion regulation had direct effects on hostile-aggressive behaviors. Shy temperament had a direct effect on fearful-anxious behavior. Both marital conflict and temperament influenced hostile-aggressive behaviors indirectly through emotion regulation, implying a crucial role of emotion regulation in preschoolers' social development.
This study investigated characteristics of children's coping behaviors in the context of perceived controllability of stress in hassles with parent(s), friend-alienation, friend-conflict, and in learning situations. The subjects were 489 sixth grade children selected from seven elementary schools in Seoul. Statistical analysis was by ANOVA, Scheffe' test, and MANOVA. Major findings were that (1) Active, passive, aggressive, and avoidant coping differed by perceived controllability of stress in all 4 stress situations. The children who perceived a higher level of controllability were more active, and less passive, aggressive, and avoidant in coping with each hassle. (2) Perceived controllability was higher in learning related than in friend-conflict situations. Active, passive, and social support seeking coping behavior was higher in learning related stress situations than in friend-conflict situations. Avoidant coping behavior was lower in learning related than in friend-conflict situations.
This study investigated interactions of two-year-old toddlers in peer conflicts caused by disputes over objects. Thirty pairs of same-gender peers were recruited from 10 child care centers. The age of these toddlers ranged from 24 to 36 months. The data were collected by experimental observation. The interaction processes between the pairs of subjects were recorded by video camera. 24 pairs displayed peer conflict over objects. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively employing content analysis and the SPSSW in 6.0. Major findings showed that when the toddler was in conflict with a peer for toys, (1) he or she interacted actively with the other child, employing both non-verbal and verbal strategies to resolve the conflict; (2) behaviors and statements reflected an egocentric tendency; (3) they recognized ownership of toys; and (4) he or she employed some prosocial strategies which could provide a basis for developing social skills in a conflict situations with peers.
Objectives: This study aims to investigate the effect of marital relationship on parenting stress among dual- and single-earner families. In particular, this study focuses on the interaction effect of marital relationship and father's child-rearing involvement on the parenting stress. To access factors associated with parenting stress, we included marital satisfaction and marital conflict as the dimensions of marital relationship in this study. Method: We employed data from the 5th wave of the Panel Study of Korean Children(PSKC) data. Our analysis sample consisted of 1,515 parents having at least one child aged under 4 years. Also, this study conducted descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. Results: First of all, marital satisfaction and marital conflict were significantly related to parenting stress for both mother and father in dual-earner families. While both indicators were significantly related to parenting stress for father, marital conflict only was a significant predictor for mother in single-earner families. Second, father involvement was a significant predictor for parenting stress for father in both dual- and single-earner families. Third, interaction effects were found between father involvement and marital conflict in the dual-earner families and between father involvement and marital satisfaction in the single-earner families. Conclusions: Based on the results, we recommended programs designed to enhance father's child-rearing involvement such as parenting education and community-based campaign. In addition, we recommended that policy and practice need to identify marital relationship dynamics to promote father's involvement and to reduce marital conflict in both dual- and single-earner families accordingly.
