Studies have been made for the wireless sensor network protocols by a number of researchers to date. In particular, the studies as to the hierarchical protocol LEACH algorithm was concentrated. Various studies have been derived for the performance of the protocol is based on the LEACH protocol have been made. Improved algorithms have been proposed continuously. On the other hand, The performance comparison and evaluation of the improved algorithm is insufficient. Therefore, we compared the performance for the ML-LEACH (Multi Hop-Layered) and DL-LEACH (Dual Hop-Layered) been derived mainly LEACH. scalability, energy consumption, CH elected, network lifetime were selected as a Performance evaluation items.

Recently, various ubiquitous networking services are developed and implemented for easy living. In general, new ubiquitous networking services require the new infrastructure including equipments and devices. However, it is difficult to replace existing infrastructure and devices with new ones in the home or office because of cost and maintenance problems. In this paper, we developed small-size web based RF wireless communication systems for sensor network applications. The designed RF systems are implemented using commercial system on a chip (SoC) on existing infrastructure and devices. The developed systems are tested for light control and temperature sensing and they are applied to sensor network training courses for students and engineer as well as various practical applications.

This study explores an alternative to the existing centralized process for data anomaly detection in modern Internet of Things (IoT)-based structural health monitoring (SHM) systems. An edge intelligence framework is proposed for the early detection and classification of various data anomalies facilitating quality enhancement of acquired data before transmitting to a central system. State-of-the-art deep neural network pruning techniques are investigated and compared aiming to significantly reduce the network size so that it can run efficiently on resource-constrained edge devices such as wireless smart sensors. Further, depthwise separable convolution (DSC) is invoked, the integration of which with advanced structural pruning methods exhibited superior compression capability. Last but not least, quantization-aware training (QAT) is adopted for faster processing and lower memory and power consumption. The proposed edge intelligence framework will eventually lead to reduced network overload and latency. This will enable intelligent self-adaptation strategies to be employed to timely deal with a faulty sensor, minimizing the wasteful use of power, memory, and other resources in wireless smart sensors, increasing efficiency, and reducing maintenance costs for modern smart SHM systems. This study presents a theoretical foundation for the proposed framework, the validation of which through actual field trials is a scope for future work.

In this paper, we addressed the IEEE 1451.x that can organize a sensor network for efficient measurement system. IEEE 1451 provides standard interface, specification and Object model for example Network Capable Application Processor(NCAP), Transducer Electronic Data Sheet(TEDS), Smart Transducer Interface Module (STIM) and so on. Especially IEEE 1451.2 defines the TEDS Formats and STIM. The TEDS makes transducer to be used independently from device. NCAP makes the component of measurement system to be handled as an object. Therefore each function block constructs system by using Add-on. IEEE 1451.x can be expend the system with Add-on and Plug-and-Play by using smart sensor and connected with current network. We expect that this method can provide the efficiency and convenience when using the measurement system.
The tracking of current location of residents is an essential requirement for context-aware service of smart houses. This paper presents a wireless sensor network system which could detect location transition such as entrance and exit to a room and also identify the user who passed the room, without duty of wearing any sort of tag. We designed new sensor node to solve the problem of short operation lifetime of previous work[1] which has two pyroelectric infrared (PIR) sensors and an ultrasonic sensor, as well as a 2.4 GHz radio frequency wireless transceiver. The proposed user identification method is to discriminate a person based on his/her height by using an ultrasonic sensor. The detection idea of entering/exiting behavior is based on order of triggering of two PIR sensors. The topology of the developed wireless sensor network system is simple star structure in which each sensor node is connected to one sink node directly. We evaluated the proposed sensing system with a set of experiments for three subjects in a model house. The experimental result shows that the averaged recognition rate of user identification is 81.3% for three persons. and perfect entering/exiting behavior detection performance.

In this paper, we propose a method to infer the user's behavior and situation through collected data from multi-sensor equipped with a smart clothing and it was implemented as a smart-phone App. This smart-clothes is able to monitor wearer users' health condition and activity levels through the gyro, temp and acceleration sensor. Sensed vital signs are transmitted to a bluetooth-enabled smart-phone in the smart-clothes. Thus, users are able to have real time information about their user condition, including activities level on the smart-application. User context reasoning and behavior determine is very difficult using multi-sensor depending on the measured value of the sensor varies from environmental noise. So, the reasoning and the digital filter algorithms to determine user behavior reducing noise and are required. In this paper, we used Multi-black Filter and SVM processing behavior for 3-axis value as a representative value of one.
This paper demonstrated the performance of a palladium wire hydrogen sensor based on a fiber Bragg grating as a means of developing a quasi-distributed hydrogen sensor network capable of operating at cryogenic temperatures. The new approach employing a fiber Bragg grating based palladium hydrogen sensor described in this study is advantageous over other traditional hydrogen sensors because of the multiplexing capability of fiber Bragg gratings. The sensitivity of the hydrogen sensor at room temperature is approximately 2.5 times that of the hydrogen sensor at cryogenic temperatures.

This paper is the second part of the study on the development of a smart active layer (SAL) sensor, which consists of two parts. As mentioned in the first paper, structural health monitoring (SHM) is a new technology that is being increasingly applied at the industrial field as a potential approach to improve cost and convenience of structural inspection. Recently, the development of smart sensor is very active for real application. This study has focused on preparation and application study of SAL sensor which is described with regard to the theory and concept of the SAL sensor in the first paper. In order to detect elastic wave, smart piezoelectric sensor, SAL, is fabricated by using a piezoelectric element, shielding layer and protection layer. This protection layer plays an important role in a patched network of distributed piezoelectric sensor and shielding treatment. Four types of SAL sensor are designed/prepared/tested, and these details will be discussed in the paper In this study, SAL sensor ran be feasibly applied to perform structural health monitoring and to detect damage sources which result in elastic waves.

As vehicles are more intelligent for convenience and safety of drivers, the in-vehicle networking systems and smart modules are essential components for intelligent vehicles. However, for the smart module to widely apply to the IVN systems, two problems are considered as follows. Firstly, because it is very difficult that transducer manufacturers developed the smart module that supports the existing all IVN protocols, the smart module must be independent to the type of networking protocols. Secondly, when the smart module is exchanged due to its failure, it is necessary how the transducer is only exchanged without exchange of the microprocessor and network transceiver. This paper deals with the IEEE 1451 based smart module that describes the digital interface between a network transceiver and sensor module. Finally. efficiency of the IEEE 1451 based smart module was evaluated on the experimental model.
Structural health monitoring with wireless sensor networks has received much attention in recent years due to the ease of sensor installation and low deployment and maintenance costs. However, sensor network technology needs to solve numerous challenges in order to substitute conventional systems: large amounts of data, remote configuration of measurement parameters, on-site calibration of sensors and robust networking functionality for long-term deployments. We present a structural health monitoring network that addresses these challenges and is used in several deployments for monitoring of bridges and buildings. Our system supports a diverse set of sensors, a library of highly optimized processing algorithms and a lightweight solution to support a wide range of network runtime configurations. This allows flexible partitioning of the application between the sensor network and the backend software. We present an analysis of this partitioning and evaluate the performance of our system in three experimental network deployments on civil structures.
