  • Typically, a smart car is equipped with access to the Internet and a wireless local area network. Moreover, a smart car is equipped with a global positioning system (GPS) based navigation system that presents a map to a user for recommending the shortest path to a desired destination. This paper presents the design and implementation of a real-time shortest path search system for directed and dynamic roads. Herein, we attempt to simulate real-world road environments, while considering changes in the ratio of directed roads and in road conditions, such as traffic accidents and congestions. Further, we analyze the effect of the ratio of directed roads and road conditions on the communication cost between the server and vehicles and the arrival times of vehicles. In this study, we compare and analyze distance-based shortest path algorithms and driving time-based shortest path algorithms while varying the number of vehicles to search for the shortest path, road conditions, and ratio of directed roads.

주행 시뮬레이터를 활용한 도심 지하도로 유출연결로 접속부 주행행태 분석 (An Investigation for Driving Behavior on the Exit-ramp Terminal in Urban Underground Roads Using a Driving Simulator)

  • 지하도로의 운전자 주행행태는 지상도로와는 다르기 때문에 이를 반영한 도로설계가 필요하지만, 국내 도시지역 지하도로 설계지침은 대부분 지상도로의 설계기준을 준용하여 설계방법을 설명하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 주행 시뮬레이터를 활용하여 도심 지하도로 유출연결로 접속부의 운전자 주행행태를 분석하였다. 지하도로 및 지상도로 환경이 대조될 수 있는 시나리오를 설정하여 가상주행실험을 수행하였고, 세부 구간별로 주행행태 데이터의 비교·분석과 통계적 유의성을 검토하였다. 그 결과, 지하도로에서의 주행속도는 상대적으로 낮고 차로 횡적 이격거리는 인접한 터널 벽체로부터 멀어지려는 행태를 보였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 지하도로 유출연결로 접속부에서 운전자의 주행안전성을 향상시킬 수 있는 설계방향과 시사점을 제시하였다.

  • Traffic safety issues have recently been seriously magnified, due to child deaths in apartment complexes and parking lots. Accordingly, traffic safety technologies are being developed to recognize dangerous situations on living roads and to provide warning services. In this study, a collision detection algorithm was developed to prevent collision accidents between moving objects, by using object type and location information provided from CCTV monitoring devices. To determine the exact collision between moving objects, an object movement model was developed to predict the range of movement by considering the moving characteristics of the object, and a collision detection algorithm was developed to efficiently analyze the presence and location of the collision. The developed object movement model as well as the collision detection algorithm were simulated, in a virtual space of an actual living road to verify performance and derive supplementary matters.

스마트도로 안전성 향상 효과의 정량화 연구 (Quantitative Analysis of Safety Improvement on Smart Roads)

  • 첨단도로 안전시설물, 첨단교통관리기법 등을 기반으로 하는 다양한 첨단 교통서비스는 교통사고 등의 돌발상황을 감소시킬 것으로 예상되며, 이에 따라 도로의 지 정체 역시 감소될 것이다. 따라서 안전성 향상에 따른 지 정체 감소효과를 편익항목에 포함시킬 수 있다. 그러나 현재 우리나라의 투자평가지침에서는 이를 편익으로 계상하지 않고 있다. 스마트도로에서 제공하는 첨단 교통서비스는 인프라의 초기 투자비용을 상승시키지만 새로운 서비스로 인한 편익이 계상되지 않아 비용/편익 분석 시에 경제성을 확보하지 못하는 문제점을 가지게 된다. 따라서 본 연구는 과거 3년간의 고속도로 사고 자료를 이용하여 평균 차로차단시간을 추정하고, 미시적 시뮬레이션을 이용하여 구축된 자료와 회귀분석기법을 통해 지체시간 추정모형을 개발하였다. 또한 개발된 모형이 투자평가기법에 적용될 수 있도록 계량화에 필요한 원단위(평균용량감소비율 등)를 제시하였다. 개발된 방법론을 스마트하이웨이사업 사례에 적용 결과, 스마트 안전시설로 인한 사고감소율을 10%로 가정하였을 경우, 30년 동안 총 안전성 향상 편익은 1,392억 원에 이르는 것으로 분석되었다.

  • Overloaded vehicles increase the maintenance cost of road structures, and they are a major factor in causing damage to the roads and bridges. In addition, overloaded vehicles compromise the braking capability of the vehicle; thus, threatening the safety of the driver. In order to prevent overloading of vehicles, the government is cracking down on the roads by using a device that measures the weight of vehicles. But this process is inconvenient because the place where the equipment is installed is far away from where the cargo is loaded. Due to the limitations of these fixed weighing devices, there is a growing need for technology that can monitor vehicle weight distribution and overload conditions in real time. In this work, we develop an onboard scale that can measure the load (weight) of trucks in real time. The onboard scale consists of high sensors, a signal processing unit, and a display, and it measures the load using height-displacement of the vehicle's leaf spring suspension.

  • The nodes constituting the vehicle ad hoc network (VANET) are vehicles moving along the road and road side units (RSUs) installed around the road. The vehicle ad hoc network is used to collect the status, speed, and location information of vehicles driving on the road, and to communicate with vehicles, vehicles, and RSUs. Today, as the number of vehicles continues to increase, urban roads are suffering from traffic jams, which cause various problems such as time, fuel, and the environment. In this paper, we propose a method to solve traffic congestion problems on urban roads and demonstrate that the method can be applied to solve traffic congestion problems through performance evaluation using two typical protocols of vehicle ad hoc networks, AODV and GPSR. The performance evaluation used ns-2 simulator, and the average number of traffic jams and the waiting time due to the average traffic congestion were measured. Through this, we demonstrate that the vehicle ad hoc-based traffic congestion management technique proposed in this paper can be applied to urban roads in smart cities.

Localization of Mobile Users with the Improved Kalman Filter Algorithm using Smart Traffic Lights in Self-driving Environments

  • The self-driving cars identify appropriate navigation paths and obstacles to arrive at their destinations without human control. The autonomous cars are capable of sensing driving environments to improve driver and pedestrian safety by sharing with neighbor traffic infrastructure. In this paper, we have focused on pedestrian protection and have designed an improved localization algorithm to track mobile users on roads by interacting with smart traffic lights in vehicle environments. We developed smart traffic lights with the RSSI sensor and built the proposed method by improving the Kalman filter algorithm to localize mobile users accurately. We successfully evaluated the proposed algorithm to improve the mobile user localization with deployed five smart traffic lights.

화물차량용 에어백 후부안전판 안전성능에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Safety Performance of the Rear Safety Guard with Air Bag for Truck)

  • Despite the movement of safe traffic by the Korean government to reduce deaths in traffic accidents, the casualties increase year by year. In particular, more and more accidents and casualties are reported from car collisions from the back of the vehicles parked for managing traffic accidents on the road, cleaning main roads and medial strips, repairing roads. In order to response to these accidents, the government should take protective measures for road users. In the last decade, seventy-one cases have been reported to occur during highway repair and maintenance. As a result, eight persons were killed and seventy-six were injured, showing the high death rate of 11.3 percent. Therefore, it seems urgent to take some actions against it. The United States and European countries legislate that vehicles of road repair and maintenance should be mandatorily equipped with shock absorber at the back. Korea, however, does not have such legislative measures, which are needed at this time to protect workers on the road. This study compares the performance of the traditional shock absorber for road maintenance vehicles with that of the rear safety guard using air bag, manufactured in accordance with related laws in Korea. Based on the results of the 60km/h rear collision test, this paper proposes improvements in related laws and regulations in an attempt to reduce casualties.

  • 차량번호인식 개선을 위해서는 무엇보다 양질의 차량이미지를 획득하는 것이 무엇보다 먼저 선행되어야 하는 필수적인 요소이다. 일반적인 도로영상들은 시간, 햇빛, 날씨 등 다양한 환경의 영향을 받아 번호판 밝기가 일률적이지 않고 다양한 형태로 나타나기 때문에 여러 가지 이미지 보정 기능을 거치게 되고 이로 인하여 인식속도 저하, 인식률 저하 등이 나타난다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 실시간 영상 촬영 시 번호판 주위의 밝기를 측정하여 카메라의 shutter, bright, gain등 이미지 밝기와 품질에 영향을 주는 각 요소를 실시간으로 제어하여 빠르고 선명한 고품질의 차량 이미지 촬영하기 위해 실시간 도로 영상을 통하여 제안된 방법을 테스트 하였다.
