Optimum Depth and Volume Ratio of Aerobic to Anaerobic Bed for Development of Small-Scale Sewage Treatment Apparatus by Natural Purification Method (자연정화공법에 의한 소형 하수처리장치 개발을 위한 최적 깊이 및 호기.혐기 비율)

  • To develop small-scale sewage treatment apparatus for detached house of agricultural village, a small-scale sewage treatment apparatus by natural purification method that consisted of aerobic and anaerobic bed was constructed. To reduce the area of a sewage treatment apparatus, four different fitter media were used and each filter medium was coarse sand, broken stone, steel slag, and mixed fitter media (coarse sand : broken stone : steel slag = 1:1:1). The efficiency of sewage treatment according to the depth of aerobic and anaerobic bed and the volume ratio of aerobic to anaerobic bed were investigated in small-scale sewage treatment apparatus. The removal rate of pollutants according to the depth of aerobic and anaerobic bed in small-scale sewage treatment apparatus was high in the order of 50 cm < 70 cm < 90 cm. The removal rate of pollutants according to the ratio of aerobic to anaerobic bed in small-scale sewage treatment apparatus was high in the order of 1:1 < 1:2 $\fallingdotseq$ 1:3. Under the optimum conditions, removal rate of BOD, COD, SS, T-N and T-P were $98{\sim}99,\;95{\sim}97,\;99,\;65{\sim}66\;and\;96{\sim}99%$ respectively, in small-scale sewage treatment apparatus.

  • To develop small-scale sewage treatment apparatus for detached house of agricultural village, a small-scale sewage treatment apparatus by natural purification method that consisted of packaged form of aerobic, anoxic and anaerobic bed was constructed. The efficiency of sewage treatment according to the sewage treatment method, sewage loading, and the injection method of sewage were investigated for small-scale sewage treatment apparatus of packaged form of aerobic, anoxic and anaerobic bed. The removal rate of pollutants according to the sewage treatment method for small-scale sewage treatment apparatus was high in the order of aerobic-anoxic-anoxic bed < aerobic-anoxic-anaerobic bed. The optimum filter media in small-scale sewage treatment apparatus was a broken stone. The removal rate of pollutants according to sewage loading in small-scale sewage treatment apparatus was high in the order of $1,200L/m^2{\cdot}day\fallingdotseq900L/m^2{\cdot}day\fallingdotseq600L/m^2{\cdot}day$. The removal rate of pollutants according to injection method of sewage in small-scale sewage treatment apparatus was high in the order of continuous injection $\fallingdotseq$ intermittent injection. When loaded under the optimum conditions, removal rate of BOD, COD, SS, T-N and T-P were 99, 95, 99, 83 and 96%, respectively, through this 3-stepped small-scale treatment apparatus arrayed with the order of aerobic, anoxic and anaerobic bed.

  • To effectively treat the domestic sewage that was produced on a small-scale in farming and fishing village in order to encourage an ecologically friendly environment, a small-scale sewage treatment apparatus using natural purification methods that consisted of an aerobic and an anaerobic plots were constructed. The efficiency of sewage treatment according to the sewage loading was investigated to obtain the optimum sewage loading in small-scale sewage treatment apparatus. Removal rate of pollutants according to the sewage loading were in the order of $150\;Lm^{-2}day^{-1}{\fallingdotseq}300\;Lm^{-2}day^{-1}>600\;Lm^{-2}day^{-1}$. Therefore, the optimum sewage loading was 300 L m-2 day-1. Under the optimum sewage loading, removal rate of BOD, $COD_{Mn}$, turbidity, T-N and T-P were 99, 94, 99, 49 and 89%, respectively. However, to satisfy the water quality standard in effluent in small-sclae sewage treatment apparatus for domestic sewage treatment, the low removal efficiency of T-N and T-P must be improved. So to improve the removal rate of T-N and T-P, the efficiency of sewage treatment according to the improved sewage treatment process such as, re-treatment at aerobic plot, anaerobic condition of aerobic plot, changing the filter media sizes and the depths in anaerobic plot, and also addition of oyster shells to filter media at anaerobic plot were investigated. In case of 150 cm depth in anaerobic plot with filter medium A (effectivity particle size 1.50 mm) and addition of oyster shells to filter media at anaerobic plot, removal rate of T-N and T-P in both plots were increased by 10 and 3%, and 14 and 7% in comparison with 100 cm depth in anaerobic plot with filter medium B(effectivity particle size 0.95 mm), respectively. The optimum improved sewage treatment process in small-scale sewage treatment apparatus were 150 cm depth in anaerobic plot with filter medium A and addition of oyster shells to filter media at anaerobic plot.

A Study on the Combined Treatment of Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Leachate (도시폐기물매립지침출수의 병합처리에 관한 연구)

  • An experimental research was conducted in order to study the combined treatment o of municipal landfill leachate and municipal sewage. The landfill leachate was that of Nanjido landfill site, and the municipal sewage was that of Chungnang municipal sewage treatment plant in Seoul. Several sets of bench~scale sequencing batch reactor(SBR) were used as e experimental apparatus. Specially investigated items in this experiment were the removal efficiency of substrate and the influence of treatment time. The experiment lasted for about 2 years. The result are as follows ; 1. The characteristics of leachate were pH 7.5~8.2, BOD 80~336mg/L, COD 908~1,460mg/L, NH3-N 1,409~2,330mg/L, T~P 2.7~7.lmg/L, Cl~3,540~4,085mg/L, a and heavy metals are a very small amount. And the characteristics of sewage were pH 6.9~7.3, BOD 78.4~129.3mg/L, COD 121.2~305.0mg/L, T~N 14.9~36.4mg/L, T-P 2.3~8.9mg/L. 2. The treatability of leachate alone was not treat well. So for the good treatment of leachate, it was necessary to deal with the pretreatment before bi이ogical treatment and a combined treatment of municipal sewage. 3. The various contents of the leachate were 5%, 10%, 30%, and 50%, and the removal efficiency of COD was 86.0%, 82.8%, 60.6%, and 31.7%. The maximum content of the leachate which could be sucessfully treated by SBR in the combined treatment was 10% of that of sewage. And the removal efficiency of COD increased n notably, as its treatment time increased. 4. The various contents of the electrolytic treated leachate were 5%, 10%, 30%, and 50%, and the removal efficiency of COD was 89.9%, 86.1%, 79.2%, and 69.8%. The maximum content of the leachate which could be sucessfully treated by SBR in the combined treatment was 30 % of that of sewage. And the removal efficiency of C COD increased notably, as its treatment time increased.

Study on the Combined Treatment of Municipal Leachate and Sewage by Sequencing Batch Reactor. (연속회분식활성슬러지공법을 이용한 매립지 침출수와 하수의 병합처리에 관한 연구)

  • An experimental research was conducted in order to study the treatability of leachate and a combined wastewater of municipal landfill leachate and municipal sewage. The landfill leachate was that of Nanjido landfill site, and the municipal sewage was obtained from Chungnang municipal sewage treatment plant of Seoul. Several sets of bench-scale sequencing batch reactor(SBR) were used as experimental apparatus. Specially investigated items in this experiment were the removal efficiency of substrate and the influence of the hydraulic retention time(HRT). The experiment lasted for about 8 months. The result are as follows ; 1) The characteristics of leachate were pH 7.4~8.1, BOD 280~450 mg/l, COD 1300 ~ 1350 mg/l, T-N 2021 ~2110 mg/1,7-P 2.7 ~3.2 mg/l, Cl-3540 ~4085 mg/l, and heavy metals are a very small amount. And the characteristics of sewage Ivere pH 6.9~7.3, BOD 78.4~129.3 mg/1, COD 121.2~305.0 mg/l, T-N 14.9~36.4 mg/l, T-P 1.3 ~5.9 mg/l. 2) The treatability of leachate alone was not treat well. Selection of Optimum Pebbles Size in Sewage Treatment Plant by Natural Purification Method (자연정화공법에 의한 하수처리장에서 최적 여재 선정)

  • An investigation was carried out to evaluate the effects of pebble size on the small-scale sewage treatment apparatus by natural purification method that consisted of aerobic and anaerobic plot. pH and EC in both plots varied minimally regardless of pebble size. DO in aerobic plot increased as the pebble size decreased. That in the anaerobic plot was slightly less in comparison with that of the aerobic plot but varied minimally, $2.4{\sim}5.1\;mg/L$ regardless of pebble size. Under all experimental conditions, removals of BOD, COD and turbidity in anaerobic plot were more than 98, 91 and 98, 98% respectively. Removals of T-N and T-P increased as pebble size decreased. Under all experimental conditions, removals of T-N and T-P in anaerobic plot were about $45{\sim}59$ and $480{\sim}96%$, respectively. Judging from the above results, it should be considered that the optimum pebble size and pebble permeability in both plot was $2{\sim}4$ and $0.1{\sim}4\;mm$, respectively.
