These studies were carried out to investigate water yield from small forested watersheds at Choosan Stream-Gauging Stations in Chollanam-do province from May 11, 1991 to December 31, 1992. The purpose of these studies was to obtain useful informations as distribution of precipitation, canopy interception, stemflow, throughfall and run-off from the small forested watersheds. The precipitation at Choosan from May to December, 1991 was 1,306.6mm and at Choosan from January to December, 1992 was 1,143.4mm. The rate of canopy interception in Pinus taeda stand is 24.3% and 27% in Pinus densiflora stand. The run-off rate from the watershed was 48.87% at Bukmoongol small forested watershed and 41.19% at Baramgol small forested watershed.
Long-term changes in the hydrological characteristics of a small forest watershed were examined using a master baseflow recession curve and the measured rainfall-runoff data from the experimental forest watershed in the measured years 2003-2011. The results of the study showed that the recession coefficient of direct runoff was lower than that of baseflow. In small forested watershed, the direct flow was lower than that of large scale watershed, flow due to its shorter period of occurrence. And baseflow was similar to large scale watershed's. A regression equation $y=0.7528e^{-0.022x}$($R^2=0.8938$, range 0.3~0.8 mm) was obtained using the master baseflow recession curve for the study period and the recession coefficient was calculated as K = 0.978. Changes between master baseflow recession curve and runoff showed great association and relevance such as increasing runoff was associated with the gentle slope of master baseflow recession curve and decreasing runoff was associated with the slope of master baseflow recession curve contrary. In the later years of the study period, the slope of the master baseflow recession curve appreciably became more gentle due to increases in baseflow. This suggests that the forested experimental watershed exhibit improved structural functioning of normal flood control and reduced occurrence of water shortage problems.

Evaluations of the fish farm influences on stream water quality may provide basic informations on watershed management to reduce environmental impact due to fish farm development and to conserve stream water quality in forested watershed area. In this research influent, effluent water in the fish farm and stream water qualities around Mt. Baegun area were monitored seasonally for six years and the following results were obtained. Due to the increase of pH in effluent water from the fish farm it was believed that alkalization of stream water can be accelerated by large scale development of fish farms in the forested watershed area. Also, effluent water from the fish farm increase of EC higher than influent and stream water. As a result of regression analyses, pH, EC, DO, water temperature, total amount of cation and anion in influent and effluent water of fish farm show high significance.
This study was carried out to reveal characteristics of long-term runoff by using HYCYMODEL in a small forested watershed. From May to September in 1998 and in 1999, the fitness of HYCYMODEL and runoff characteristics were estimated by HYCYMODEL using rainfall and discharge at the experimental watershed. The function of stage and discharge in the experimental watershed was determined as following equation $Q=11.148H^{2.5867}$($R^2=0.9956$). From May to September in 1998 and in 1999, the runoff rates were 57.7% in 1998 and 87.1% in 1999 at the experimental watershed. The discharge was assumed to be increased because of rainfall intensity difference and thinning. By applicability test, the HYCYMODEL showed good estimation of runoff by optimized fifteen parameters. Comparing runoff characteristics before and after thinning by calculating through HYCYMODEL, direct runoff and base runoff increased 4%, 7%, respectively as evapotranspiration decreased 11%. Parameters $D_{50}$ and $K_h$, which were related to the direct run, and a parameter $K_u$, which was related to the baseflow, were assumed to indicate that forest was changed by the effect of thinning and weathering process of bed rock.

Nonpoint source (NPS) pollution from small watersheds has recently been brought into attention as a potential pollutant to streams and tnbutaries, as majority of them are experiencing water quality degradation. This necessiates the quantification of NPS loadings from agricultural and forested lands. And this study attempts to quantify daily loadings from forested and farm lands using hydrologic and water quality monitoring. The hydrologic monitoring program consists of five water level gauging stations along creeks and stream at the Banweol reservoir watershed having 1220 hectare in size. Water sam pies were taken and analyzeel periodically at the streamf low gaging sites and tributaries. Soil samples were also taken and the chemical constitutes analyzed. The primary results indicate that the major sources of pollution were small villages and dairy farms on the watersheds, constituting two-third of total nutrient loadings to the reservoir. However, the loadings from paddies and upland areas may cause a problem to the water quality of the reservoir and stream as the measured levels of total nitrogen and phosporus are not low enough to ignore. Further studies are needed to quantify the effects of landuses and treatments at a watershed scale.

The purpose of this study was to develop the Rainfall-Runoff Model for a long and short term runoff analysis in small forested mountain watersheds. This model was derived from tank model. This model is composed of four tank. Tank I, Tank II, TankIII, and TankIV represent interception loss in forest canopy, direct runoff, base flow, and surface flow component, respectively. This model was tested with two experimental watersheds, located in southern part of Korea. As the result, this model had potentials for simulating and analyzing the long and short term runoff in small forested watersheds.

A monsoon season monitoring data from June to September, 2005 of a small forested watershed located at the upstream of the North Han River system in Korea was conducted to analyze the flow variations, the NPS pollutant concentrations, and the pollution load characteristics with respect to sampling frequencies. During the 4-month period, 1,423 mm or 79.2% of annual rainfall(1,797 mm) were occurred and more than 77%, 54% and 68% of annual T-N, $NO_3$-N and T-P loads discharged. Flow rate was continuously measured with automatic velocity and water level meters and 58 water quality samples were taken and analyzed. It was analyzed that the flow volume by random measurement varied very widely and ranged from 79% to 218% of that of continuous measurement. It was recommended that flow measurement of small forested watersheds should be continuously measured with automated flow meters to precisely measure flow rates. Flow-weighted mean concentrations of T-N, $NO_3$-N and T-P during the period were 2.114 mg/L, 0.836 mg/L, and 0.136 mg/L, respectively. T-N, $NO_3$-N and T-P loads were sensitive to the number of samples. And it was analyzed that in order to measure the pollution load within the error of 10% to the true load, the rate of sampling frequency should be higher than 89.7% of the sample numbers that were required to compute the true pollution load. If it is compared to selected foreign research results, about 10 water samples for each rainfall event were needed to compute the pollution load within 10% error. It is unlikely in Korea and recommended that thorough NPS pollution monitoring studies are required to develop the standard monitoring procedures for reliable NPS pollution quantification.
Background and objective: This study examined the changes in the cultural trend of use for green infrastructure in Seoul due to COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The subjects of this study are 8 sites of green infrastructure selected by type: Forested green infrastructure, Watershed green infrastructure, Park green infrastructure, Walkway green infrastructure. The data used for analysis was blog posts for a total of four years from August 1, 2016 to July 31, 2020. The analysis method was conducted keyword frequency analysis, topic modeling, and related keyword analysis. Results: The results of this study are as follows. First, the number of posts on green infrastructure has increased since COVID-19, especially forested green infrastructure and watershed green infrastructure with abundant naturalness and high openness. Second, the cultural trend keywords before and after COVID-19 changed from large-scale to small-scale, community-based to individual-based activities, and nondaily to daily culture. Third, after COVID-19, topics and keywords related to coronavirus showed that the cultural trends were reflected on appreciation, activities, and dailiness based on natural resources. In sum, the interest in green infrastructure in Seoul has increased after COVID-19. Also, the change of green infrastructure represents the increased demand for experience that reflects the need and expectation for nature. Conclusion: The new trend of green Infrastructure in the pandemic era should be considered in the the individual relaxations & activities.
Variability in precipitation due to climate change causes difficulties in securing stable surface water resource, which requires understanding of relation between precipitation and stream discharge. This study simulated stream discharge in a small mountainous forested catchment using antecedent precipitation index (API) models which represent variability of saturation conditions of soil layers depending on rainfall events. During 13 months from May 2015 to May 2016, stream discharge and rainfall were measured at the outlet and in the central part of the watershed, respectively. Several API models with average recession coefficients were applied to predict stream discharge using measured rainfall, which resulted in the best reflection time for API model was 1 day in terms of predictability of stream discharge. This indicates that soil water in riparian zones has fast response to rainfall events and its storage is relatively small. The model can be improved by employing seasonal recession coefficients which can consider seasonal fluctuation of hydrological parameters. These results showed API models can be useful to evaluate variability of streamflow in ungauged small forested watersheds in that stream discharge can be simulated using only rainfall data.

Successful sediment management at the watershed scale requires an understanding of the erosion, transport and sedimentation processes at the specific site scale. However, studies on the sediment runoff characteristics in a small uppermost watershed, which serves as a sediment supply function, are very rare. Therefore, this study attempted to investigate the fluctuations in major sediment supply areas and sediment runoff in the uppermost mountain small watershed, and for this purpose, ArcSWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tools with GIS interface) was applied to the Woldong reservoir catchment located in Gosam-myeon, Anseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. The model results were manually calibrated using the monitoring data of the Woldong reservoir sedimentation rate from 2005 to 2007. It was estimated that annual average of 34.4 tons/year of sediment was discharged from the Woldong reservoir basin. This estimate almost coincided with the monitoring data of the Woldong reservoir during the low flow period but tended to be somewhat underestimated during the high flow period. Although the SWAT model does not fully reflect the erosion process of gully and in-channel, this underestimation is probably due to the spatial connectivity of sediment transport and the storage and reactivation of the sediment being transported. Most of the forested hillslopes with a well-developed organic horizon were evaluated as having a low risk of erosion, while the places with the highest risk of erosion were predicted to be distributed in the logged area with some weeds or shrubs (classified as pasture) with relatively steeper slopes, and in the bare land. The results of this study are expected to be useful in developing strategies for sediment control and reservoir management.
