  • The Small and Medium Enterprise is currently getting more attention from the Indonesian government as the contribution of this sector to the regional and national income has increased. Though the government is providing a lot of attention as well as facilities to the small businesses in the manufacturing sector, they face intense competition. Thus, the small enterprises need to ensure that they achieve good business performance. This research aims to investigate the role of entrepreneurial intensity and innovation in improving the performance of small businesses in Indonesia. For this purpose, one hundred and eighty-six small business owners participated in the survey. The data was analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling. The hypothesis results show that entrepreneurial intensity and innovation have a proven role in business performance of small enterprises. Entrepreneurial intensity in particular, significantly impacts innovation and exploration. And innovation is crucial for business performance. The results imply that to increase business performance, the owner and the manager also need to raise their entrepreneurial spirit, as it can enhance their willingness to explore and use their business experience to do more innovation activities. The more innovation is done by the company; the business performance is more likely to improve.

  • The majority of studies was undertaken on large companies that had adopted e-Business or on the specific case of dot.com companies. However, despite this interest in the effect of the size of an organization on its approach to e-Business, little direct comparison has been undertaken between small and large companies. This study examined the differences of e-Business adoption factors and e-Business performance between large and small companies. Reviewing the literature, we suggest a research model and develop nine hypotheses to be tested. Data are collected from 109 companies Implemented e-business. The results of hypothesis testing show as follows. First, e-Business performance of efficiency has a positive influence of perceived e-Business advantage, top management support, organizational learning ability and financial slack. Second, e-Business performance of sales performance has a positive influence of top management support. Third, e-Business performance of customer satisfaction has a positive influence of technology competence, perceived e-Business advantage, top management support, financial slack and institutional pressure. Finally, there are differences in the e-business factors(perceived e-Business advantage, top management support, institutional pressure) and e-Business performance(efficiency) between large and small companies.

  • There hardly have been support policies for small wholesale vendors or any materials such as proper statistical standards and figures compared to diversity of support policies and size of budget for small and medium manufacturing business. The biggest concern coming from it is that there have never been any policies for small and medium wholesale vendors. This study proposes some ways to improve support policies through investigating the current status of those vendors as their true values haven't been properly recognized, while diverse support systems have been devised for manufacturing business thanks to the traditional industrial development process. According to the study on support policies for domestic and international small and medium wholesale vendors, I realized that those vendors need a policy to ensure them to be promptly adjusted to the rapidly changing distribution environment and to be competitive to access to the global distribution market to finally become hidden champions through systematical operations of small and medium wholesale vendors and implementing educational business through sales management. Therefore, I propose five ways to improve support policies for small and medium wholesale vendors by considering social and economic value, systematizing small wholesalers and scaling small and medium wholesale vendors, reinforcing support for wholesalers, support policies for new online market opening and offline market opening.
