This paper is concerned with a equalization technique for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems based on a block type pilot arrangement over slow fading channels. The bit rates obtained in underwater channels are relatively modest compared to some other communication channels such as cellular phones or indoor wireless systems. Consequently. the Doppler effect is the important parameter in tracking a channel. In case of a coherent demodulation scheme, the residual mean phase errors due to Doppler frequency may be fatal for the performance of the system. The equalizer could not solely handle mean Doppler shift. To account for the common Doppler effect a phase error tracking loop is used with the frequency equalizer. so that the rotation errors are avoided. Furthermore. simulations show that we can reduce the computational load of the tracking loop with negligible effect on performance.

In this study, the mixing process of two-phase flow generated by two jets with height difference is analyzed. The primary jet is jetted on the condition of the state mixed pulverized solid particles with air. The height difference between the main jet and the secondary jet is changed into three kinds(0, 32.5, 47.5mm). The velocity vector field, concentration field and turbulent properties of solid particles are measured by using 3-Dimensional Particles Dynamics Analyzer. As the height difference of two jets through the two nozzles increases, the solid particle recirculation zone and the dense zone in the combustion chamber become large. The solid particle concentration at the center of the combustion chamber gets dense because the particle velocity remains slow due to the existence of the solid particle recirculation zone. The particle concentration in the combustion chamber can also be influenced by the hight difference of two jets.
$TiO_2$ nanopowder has been synthesized by means of the flame method using a precursor of titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP, Ti$(OC_3H_7)_4)$. In order to clarify the effect of cooling rate of hot flame on the formation of $TiO_2$ crystalline phases, the flame was controlled by varying the mixing ratio and the flow rate of gases. Anatase phase was predominantly synthesized under the condition having the steep cooling gradient in flame, while a slow cooling gradient enabled to form almost rutile $TiO_2$ nanopowder of above 95%.
Using topoisomerase II (topo II) isozyme-specific antibodies, we investigated the phosphorylation of topo $II{\alpha}$ in mitotic HeLa cells. Topo $II{\alpha}$ was specifically modified in the mitotic cells, resulting in slow migration on SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. To characterize the nature of this modification, we treated the nuclear extracts prepared from the mitotic cells with alkaline phosphatase. After the treatment with alkaline phosphatase, the slowly migrated band disappeared and instead a normal (170 kDa) topo $II{\alpha}$ band appeared. These results indicate that human topo $II{\alpha}$ is modified at a specific site(s) in M phase by phosphorylation, supporting the possibility that M phase-specific phosphorylation of topo II is critical for mitotic chromosome condensation and segregation.

Thyristor rectifiers are still the preferred choice for large magnet power supplies. However, large harmonic voltages, resulting in large current ripple, and slow dynamic response are major drawbacks of these converters. Joos presented a topology and a control technique for a hybrid large-power high-precision magnet power supply in 1996. The system consists of a phase controlled rectifier (PCR) connected in series with a high-frequency PWM converter. This paper improves the power circuit of the PWM converter using interphase transformer. Simulation result proves effect of the proposed system.
The phase transition temperatures and thermodynamic properties of $(NH_4)_2MnCl_4{\cdot}2H_2O$ grown by the slow evaporation method were studied using differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. A structural phase transition occurred at temperature $T_{C1}$ (=264 K), whereas the changes at $T_{C2}$ (=460 K) and $T_{C3}$ (=475 K) seemed to be chemical changes caused by thermal decomposition. In addition, the chemical shift and the spin-lattice relaxation time $T_{1{\rho}}$ were investigated using $^1H$ magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR), in order to understand the role of $NH_4{^+}$ and $H_2O$. The rise in $T_{1{\rho}}$ with temperature was related to variations in the symmetry of the surrounding $H_2O$ and $NH_4{^+}$.
In the present study, the phase velocities of guided ultrasonic waves such as the first arriving signal (FAS) and the slow guided wave (SGW) propagating along the long axis on the 12 tubular cortical bone samples in vitro were measured and their correlations with the cortical thickness were investigated. The phase velocities of the FAS and the SGW were measured by using the axial transmission method in air with a pair of unfocused ultrasonic transducers with a diameter of 12.7 mm and a center frequency of 200 kHz. The phase velocity of the FAS measured at 200 kHz exhibited a very high negative correlation with the cortical thickness and that of the SGW arriving after the FAS showed a high positive correlation with the cortical thickness. The simple and multiple linear regression models with the phase velocities of the FAS and the SGW as independent variables and the cortical thickness as a dependent variable revealed that the coefficient of determination of the multiple linear regression model was higher than those of the simple linear regression models. The phase velocities of the FAS and the SGW measured at 200 kHz on the 12 tubular cortical bone samples were, respectively, consistent with those of the S0 and the A0 Lamb modes calculated at 200 kHz on the cortical bone plate.

This paper shows the parameters to affect the critical characteristic of YBaCuO superconducting bulk fabricated by MPMG (Melt Powdered Melt Growth)process. In order to investigate proper processing variables, the effect of the holding time at the melting temperature and that of the slow cooling time in $O_2\; ambient\; on\; the\; J_c$ were experimented. And then with the above obtained heat treatment conditions, the effects of addition of $Y_2BaCuO_5\; and\; Ag\; on\; the\; J_c$ were also investigated. A proper slow cooling time yields phase transformation from Tetragonal $(YBa_2Cu_3O_6)$ to Orthorhombic $(YBa_2Cu_3O_7)$ during an annealing time in $O_2$. Ag addition plays a role in increasing the $T_c\; and\; the J_c$, but the magnetization decreases. The $J_c$ and the magnetization increase with addition of Y211. $J_c$ of the sample added Ag 10wt% is superiorover 3000 G. Proper holding time, slow cooling time and amount of impurity addition are important parameters in fabricating the YBaCuO bulk by MPMG process with high $J_c$.
In the Fe-Si system, a mixture of a($Fe_{2}Si_5$) - and ${\epsilon}$(FeSi)-composition powders was sintered and heat-treated subsequently at various temperatures and time to get thermoelectric ${\beta}$-phase($FeSi_2$) compacts. The different transformational sequences depending on the heat treating temperature were found through the investigation into phase transformation and microstructural development. That is, a rapid eutectoid decomposition of ${\alpha}{\to}{\beta}+Si$ occurred together with a accompanying slow reaction between the dispersed Si formed by above decomposition and the preexisted ${\epsilon}$ phase at temperatures below $830^{\circ}C$. The unreacted Si and the micropores formed due to the density change upon the transformation coarsened as heat treating time elapsed. At temperatures above $880^{\circ}C$, however, transformation was proceeded by a peritectoid reaction of ${\alpha}+{\epsilon}{\to}{\beta}$. It took at least 200min. to achieve 90% volume fracion of transformed ${\beta}$ phase, and the growth of micro-pores was also observed in this transformational sequence with prolonged heat treating time.

Bioremediation of hazardous hydrophobic organic compounds, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), is a major environmental concern due to their toxic and carcinogenic properties. Due to their hydrophobicity, the hydrophobic organic compounds are mainly associated with the soil organic matter or nonaqueous-phase liquids. A major question concerns the relationships between biodegradation and sorption. This work develops and utilizes a non- steady state model for evaluating the interactions between sorption and biodegradation of phenanthrene, a 3-ring PAH compound, in soil-slurry systems. The model includes sorption/desorption of a target compound, its utilization by microorganisms as a primary substrate existing in the dissolved phase and/or the sorbed phase in biomass and soil, oxygen transfer, and oxygen utilization as an electron acceptor. Biodegradation tests with phenanthrene were conducted in liquid and soil-slurry systems. The soil-slurry tests were performed with very different mass transfer rate: fast mass transfer in a flask test at 150 rpm, and slow mass transfer in a roller-bottle test at 2 rpm. In the slurry tests, phenanthrene was degraded more rapidly than in liquid tests, but with a similar rate in both slurry systems. Modeling analyses with several hypotheses indicate that a model without biodegradation of compound sorbed to the soil was not able to account for the rapid degradation of phenanthrene, particularly in the roller bottle slurry test. Reduced mass-transfer resistance to bacteria attached to the soil is the most likely phenomenon accounting for rapid sorbed-phase biodegradation.
