Nonlinear response of r.c. framed buildings retrofitted by different base-isolation systems under horizontal and vertical components of near-fault earthquakes

  • Near-fault ground motions are characterized by high values of the ratio between the peak of vertical and horizontal ground accelerations, which can significantly affect the nonlinear response of a base-isolated structure. To check the effectiveness of different base-isolation systems for retrofitting a r.c. framed structure located in a near-fault area, a numerical investigation is carried out analyzing the nonlinear dynamic response of the fixed-base and isolated structures. For this purpose, a six-storey r.c. framed building is supposed to be retrofitted by insertion of an isolation system at the base for attaining performance levels imposed by current Italian code in a high-risk seismic zone. In particular, elastomeric (e.g., high-damping-laminated-rubber bearings, HDLRBs) and friction (e.g., steel-PTFE sliding bearings, SBs, or friction pendulum bearings, FPBs) isolators are considered, with reference to three cases of base isolation: HDLRBs acting alone (i.e., EBI structures); in-parallel combination of HDLRBs and SBs (i.e., EFBI structures); FPBs acting alone (i.e., FPBI structures). Different values of the stiffness ratio, defined as the ratio between the vertical and horizontal stiffnesses of the HDLRBs, sliding ratio, defined as the global sliding force divided by the maximum sliding force of the SBs, and in-plan distribution of friction coefficient for the FPs are investigated. The EBI, EFBI and FPBI base-isolation systems are designed assuming the same values of the fundamental vibration period and equivalent viscous damping ratio. The nonlinear dynamic analysis is carried out with reference to near-fault earthquakes, selected and scaled on the design hypotheses adopted for the test structures.

  • 최근 콘크리트 궤도 슬래브 하면과 교량 바닥판 사이에 저마찰 슬라이드층을 형성하는 궤도 시스템인 슬라이딩 궤도와 관련된 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 슬라이딩 궤도에서 열차 주행에 따른 횡방향 하중을 저항하기 위해 설치되는 횡방향 지지 콘크리트 블록의 전단 내하력에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 횡방향 지지 콘크리트 블록의 전단 내하력 산정을 위해 타설경계면에서의 콘크리트 마찰 및 철근의 다월 거동을 고려한 산정 기법을 개발하다. 제안된 산정 기법은 기존의 실험에서 측정된 전단 내하력을 13~23% 정도 보수적으로 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 균열면 골재 맞물림 효과를 무시한 것에 따른 것으로, 현장에서의 타설경계면 상태가 불확실한 것을 고려할 때 횡방향 지지 콘크리트 블록에 대한 안전측 설계를 위해 제안된 산정 기법이 합리적인 것으로 판단된다. 제안된 전단 내하력 산정 기법을 토대로 횡방향 지지 콘크리트 블록에 대한 설계 방안을 마련하였다.

수중환경에서 Fe계 벌크 비정질 합금의 트라이볼로지적 거동 (Tribological Behavior of Fe-based Bulk Amorphous Alloy in a Distilled Water Environment)

  • The tribological behavior of an Fe-based bulk amorphous alloy while sliding against a AISI 304 disc is investigated using a unidirectional pin-on-disc type tribometer in dry and distilled water environments. The rod-shaped bulk pins are fabricated by suction casting. The crystallinities of the bulk amorphous alloys before and after the friction tests are determined by X-ray diffraction. The friction coefficient and specific wear rate of the amorphous pin in the water environment are found to be twice and thrice as much as in the dry environment at a low applied pressure, respectively. However, at a higher pressure, the friction coefficient and specific wear rate are 0.4 and 1.02 mg/(Nm/s), respectively, in the water environment. A microstructure analysis shows that the worn surface of the alloy is characterized by delamination from the smooth friction surface, and thus delamination is the main wear mechanism during the friction test in dry sliding environment. In contrast, brittle fracture morphologies are apparent on the friction surface formed in distilled water environment. For the sample tested at a lower sliding speed, the XPS data from the oxide layer are similar to those of the pure element with weak suboxide peaks. For higher sliding speeds, all the main sharp peaks representing the core level binding energies are shifted to the oxide region.

  • Due to the environmental concerns, especially the greenhouse effect and GWP (Global Warming Potential), the carbon dioxide was investigated as an alternative natural refrigerant to replace HFCs (HydroFluoroCarbons) in refrigerator or air conditioning systems. Because new compressor with carbon dioxide is going to be operated under the high pressure, the tribology of sliding surfaces in the compressor becomes very important. To improve of wear resistance in compressor parts, especially rotary type, the friction and wear characteristics of improved sliding surfaces between vane and flange were evaluated in this paper. The method of reformed sliding surface, such as micro-dimple processes, was applied on surfaces in order to improve the tribological characteristics, and their performances were evaluated experimentally. The vane-on-flange type lubricated sliding tests were performed with a high pressure wear tester using carbon dioxide. Test results showed that the reformed surfaces were very effective to reduce the friction and the wear amounts of vane surfaces. The method of improved surfaces showed good tribological properties at vane and flange.

확장 참조 구간의 히스토그램 평균값을 이용한 적응적인 장면 전환 검출 기법과 휴대용 멀티미디어 재생기에서의 구현 (Adaptive Shot Change Detection Technique Using Histogram Mean within Extension Sliding Window and Its Implementation on Portable Multimedia Player)

  • 장면 전환 검출 기술은 대용량 비디오 데이터의 효율적인 관리를 위한 주요 기술로서, 다양한 비디오 데이터에 적용하기 위한 적응적인 검출 알고리즘이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 확장 참조 구간 동안의 프레임들의 히스토그램 평균값을 이용한 적응적인 장면 전환 검출 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안하는 방법은 히스토그램을 이용해서 프레임들의 특징값을 계산하고, 확장 참조 구간 동안의 프레임들의 히스토그램 평균값을 이용해서 임계값을 정의하여 특징값과 임계값의 비교를 통해서 장면 전환 발생 여부를 판단한다. 동일한 비디오 데이터를 사용한 실험을 통해서 제안하는 방법이 기존의 방법들보다 검출 정확도에서 최대 15% 이상 향상되었음을 확인하였다. Homecast사의 TVUS HM-900 PLUS 모델의 휴대용 멀티미디어 재생기에서 제안하는 방법을 구현하여 PC보다 성능이 낮은 하드웨어 플랫폼에서도 실시간으로 장면 전환 검출이 동작하는 것을 확인하였다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 방법은 휴대용 미디어 재생 장치나 휴대 전화 등 비교적 낮은 하드웨어 플랫폼에서 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.

  • 이상소음은 고분자 판재가 상호간에 미끄럼 운동을 할 때 마찰에 의한 스틱-슬립 메카니즘에 의하여 발생한다. 본 연구에서는 실험적 방법을 통하여 이상소음을 줄이기 위하여 가전제품에 많이 사용되는 ABS, PP, MIPS, POM 고분자 소재에 대하여 ABS를 기초로 하여 소재간의 조합이 이상소음에 미치는 영향을 알아보았다. 소재간 마찰에 의한 이상소음을 평가하기 위한 실험방법과 장치를 제안하였으며, 실험변수로는 소재의 조합뿐만 아니라 고분자 판재의 표면 거칠기, 수직 접촉하중, 상대운동 속도 등을 두었다. 본 연구를 통하여 이상소음 저감을 위해서 ABS 소재와 POM 소재 조합이 가장 좋음을 알 수 있었으며, 다른 재료조합에 대한 결과도 상호 비교하였다.

Implementation and Comparison of Controllers for Planar Robots

  • The nonlinear behavior and the high performance requirement are the main problems that appear in the design of manipulator robots and their controllers. For that reason, the simulation, real-time execution and comparison of the performance of controllers applied to a robot with three degrees of freedom are presented. Five controllers are prepared to test the robot's dynamic model: predictive; hyperbolic sine-cosine; sliding mode; hybrid composed of a predictive + hyperbolic sine-cosine controller; and adaptive controller. A redundant robot, a communication and signal conditioning interface, and a simulator are developed by means of the MatLab/Simulink software, which allows analyzing the dynamic performance of the robot and of the designed controllers. The manipulator robot is made to follow a test trajectory which, thanks to the proposed controllers, it can do. The results of the performance of this manipulator and of its controllers, for each of the three joints, are compared by means of RMS indices, considering joint errors according to the imposed trajectory and to the controller used.

  • A new type of a fretting wear tester has been designed and developed in order to simulate the actual vibration behavior of a nuclear fuel rod for springs/dimples in room temperature. When considering the actual contact condition between fuel rod and spring/dimple, if fretting wear progress due to the flow-induced vibration (FIV) under a specific normal load exerted on the fuel rod by the elastic deformation of the spring, the contacting force between the fuel rod and dimple that were located in the opposite side should be decreased. Consequently, the evaluation of developed spacer grids against fretting wear damage should be performed with the results of a cell unit experiments because the contacting force is one of the most important variables that influence to the fretting wear mechanism. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new type of fretting test rig in order to simulate the actual contact condition. In this paper, the development procedure of a new fretting wear tester and its performance were discussed in detail.

Friction Bushing용 복합재료의 미끄럼 마찰마모특성에 관한 연구 (Sliding Wear and Friction Properties of Composite Materials for Friction Bushing)

  • The sliding friction and wear properties of mineral fiber reinforced composite(MF) and glass fiber reinforced composites(GF) are investigated to clarify their field of use and the role of each fiber in friction material. Friction and wear test reveals that GF composite has better wear resistance even though with low friction coefficient, comparing with MF composite. Glass fiber strengthen effectively the matrix and may absorb friction energy to convert it into the fracture energy of them, as well as its lubricative role. However, mineral fiber in MF composite is too small to strengthen the matrix. Then MF composite are easily plowed and worn out by asperity on counter material. Friction coefficient of MF composite is higher friction coefficient than that of GF composite and varied widely with test.

보강재 연결 유.무에 따른 보강토옹벽의 보강효과 (Improved Effects of Reinforced Wall with Types of Connection Methods)

  • 본 연구에서는 보강토 구조물에 이용되는 지오그리드와 국내에 많이 분포하고 있는 화강풍화토를 대상으로 하여, 보강재의 포설깊이가 동일한 상태에서 보강재의 길이를 벽체높이의 0.465배, 0.685배, 0.9배로 설치하여 보강재가 전면벽체에 정착된 경우와 비정착된 경우에 대하여 모형실험을 실시하였다. 모형실험결과, 정착된 경우에는 보강재의 길이가 증가함에 따라 지지력은 무보강인 경우 보다 약 1.725~2.1배 증가함을 알 수 있었으며, 침하량도 약 20%이상의 감소율을 보였다. 전면 벽체의 최대 수평변위량은 무보강에 비해 약 80%이상의 감소율을 보였다. 비정착된 경우에도 무보 강인 경우보다 지지력이 약 1.7배이상 증가하였으며, 전면벽체의 최대 수평변위는 약 50%이상 감소하였다. 모형실험을 통해 고찰한 파괴면은 Bchlosser 등(1979)의 연구결과와 유사하게 나타났다.
