Maglev System is expected to be a new public transportation for future because of its special characteristics. Sleepers of railway role on transferring the lateral load to guideway for Maglev and controlling the distance between rails. Variation of distance of sleepers can affect dynamic responses for maglev guideway. In this paper, Daejon maglev guideway is analyzed to find proper tie spacing of a maglev system. The analysis included using a maglev trainload and also the dead load as the primary forces on bridges. Not only the dynamic behavior of bridges is investigated under sleeper conditions, but also impact factor about vertical displacement on the guideway is produced. This guideway is analyzed in four cases followed by changing spacing of sleeper and then obtained dynamic characteristics such as displacements, acceleration and impact factor by Finite Element Analysis.
Parametric studies are executed by numerical method varying then number of strain gauges, rail section and distance of sleeper from which the followings are obtained. Wheel forces or lateral forces are measured by connecting eight strain gauges on rail to single Wheatstone bridge. The method eliminates the influence of interaction and measured stability. Strain gauges are fastened on the neutral axis of the rail so as not to be influenced by sleeper.
Y-form steel sleeper are currently enjoying a renaissance in Germany. Their use on ballast track proves hat-especially under extreme conditions and loads-they reliably help ensure high stability and a long service life of the track. In addition to conventional partly mechanised tracklaying methods, a new Method has been developed that for the first time enables Y-form sleepers to be laid on an assembly-line basis at a fast rate and with high quality.

Sleeper, the ballast, and ballast mat in the high-speed railroad line are modelled using a two-dimensional discrete element method to generate circle and line elements. Stress transfer mechanism from the sleeper to the subgrade via the ballast is analyzed. The behavior of ballast bed of the high-speed railroad line is also accessed with the model.

This paper reports the development of a theoretically rigorous method for permanent way engineers to assess the condition of railway ballast under a concrete sleeper with the potential to be extended to a smart system for long-term health monitoring of railway ballast. Owing to the uncertainties induced by the problems of modeling error and measurement noise, the Bayesian approach was followed in the development. After the selection of the most plausible model class for describing the damage status of the rail-sleeper-ballast system, Bayesian model updating is adopted to calculate the posterior PDF of the ballast stiffness at various regions under the sleeper. An obvious drop in ballast stiffness at a region under the sleeper is an evidence of ballast damage. In model updating, the model that can minimize the discrepancy between the measured and model-predicted modal parameters can be considered as the most probable model for calculating the posterior PDF under the Bayesian framework. To address the problems of non-uniqueness and local minima in the model updating process, a two-stage hybrid optimization method was developed. The modified evolutionary algorithm was developed in the first stage to identify the important regions in the parameter space and resulting in a set of initial trials for deterministic optimization to locate all most probable models in the second stage. The proposed methodology was numerically and experimentally verified. Using the identified model, a series of comprehensive numerical case studies was carried out to investigate the effects of data quantity and quality on the results of ballast damage detection. Difficulties to be overcome before the proposed method can be extended to a long-term ballast monitoring system are discussed in the conclusion.
Concrete sleepers, installed on majority of railroad track in this nation can, if not maintained properly, threaten the safety of running trains. In this paper, an algorithm for automatically identifying cracks in a sleeper image, taken by high-resolution camera, is developed based on Adaboost, known as the strongest adaptive algorithm and most actively utilized algorithm of current days. The developed algorithm is trained using crack characteristics drawn from the analysis results of crack and non-crack images of field-installed sleepers. The applicability of the developed algorithm is verified using 48 images utilized in the training process and 11 images not used in the process. The verification results show that cracks in all the sleeper images can be successfully identified with an identification rate greater than 90%, and that the developed automatic crack identification algorithm therefore has sufficient applicability.

In this study, the causes of damage to the concrete sleepers in a ballast track with under sleeper pads attached to the base of the sleepers installed in the sharp curved track(R=180m) of the urban railway bridge were analyzed. The damage types of concrete sleepers were investigated, and the correlation with track irregularity was reviewed. Also, stress generated in the concrete sleeper was reviewed through structural analysis. As a result, most of the cracks of the sleepers occurred in the section with severe track irregularity. In addition, as a result of the analysis, the stress generated in the track components and the sleepers was found to be reduce in the fastening system using the 4-anchor.
In recent time, the cause analysis and the reduction of the track irregularity have become the most important issue in the ballasted track on the high-speed railway bridge. This is because that the frequency of the maintenance work at the bridge expansion joint zone is on the rise. The track irregularity on the railway bridge starts at the end of the bridge-deck and spreads along the bridge. Due to the dynamic vibration and the thermal expansion of the bridge, the compaction of the ballast gravel on the bridge expansion joint zone become loose and then the progress of the track irregularity result from the train-induced dynamic impact is accelerating further. Among the several options for reducing the track irregularity on the bridge expansion joint zone, the application and efficiency of the zero longitudinal restraint(ZLR) and tied sleeper are investigated in this paper. Field test construction has been conducted, then the progress of the track irregularity and the frequency of the maintenance work are analyzed before and after the filed test construction. Of the two methods, it is shown that the installation of the ZLR seems to be better than the tied sleeper.
The continuous welded rail(CWR) track without the rail expansion joint has many advantages over the conventional track in a variety of fields including the speed-up and the ride comport. However, due to the excessive axial force in the CWR and the track-bridge interactive behavior, inevitably, the rail expansion joint must be installed at the vulnerable zone such as the bridge end zone, etc. In this rail expansion joint zone, the frequency of the maintenance work to repair the track irregularity is on the rise. This is because that the creep of the sleeper is occurred in the moveable zone of the rail expansion joint. In this study, among the several options for reducing the track irregularity on the rail expansion joint zone, the application and efficiency of the tied sleeper is investigated. Field test construction has been conducted, then the progress of the track irregularity and the frequency of the maintenance work are analyzed before and after the filed test construction.
