  • The paper study on the mechanical properties of reactive powder concrete using copper slag. A change in the replacement ratio s of copper slag was measured compressive strength and slump flow. As a results, slump flow using copper slag tend to increase slump flow with replacement ratio. As the concrete with a replacement ratio of copper slag up to 30% was found to have a compressive strength superior to that of plain.

  • The present study deals with the development of metakaolin-based geopolymer concrete (GPC) and thereafter studying the effects of adding ultra-fine slag on its mechanical and permeability characteristics. The mechanical characteristics including compressive, split tensile, flexural strengths and elastic modulus were studied. In addition, permeability characteristics including water absorption, porosity, sorptivity and chloride permeability were studied up to 90 days. The results showed the effective utilization of metakaolin for the development of elevated temperature cured geopolymer concrete having high 3-day compressive strength of 42.6 MPa. The addition of ultra-fine slag up to 15%, as partial replacement of metakaolin resulted in an increase in strength characteristics. Similar improvement in durability properties was also observed with the inclusion of ultra-fine slag up to 15%. Beyond this optimum content of 15%, further increase in ultra-fine slag content affected the mechanical as well as permeability parameters in a negative way. In addition, the relationship between various properties of GPC was also derived.

  • Climate changes, such as increasing of $CO_2$ concentration and global warming, will impact on the carbonation service life of concrete structures. Moreover, slag blended concrete has a lower carbonation resistance than control concrete. This study presents a probabilistic numerical procedure for evaluating the impact of climate change on carbonation service life of slag blended concrete. This numerical procedure considers both corrosion initiation period and corrosion propagation period. First, in corrosion initiation period, by using an integrated hydration-carbonation model, the amount of carbonatable substances, porosity, and carbonation depth are calculated. The probability of corrosion initiation is determined through Monte Carlo method. Second, in corrosion propagation period, a probabilistic model is proposed to calculate the critical corrosion degree at surface cracking, the probability of surface cracking, and service life. Third, based on the service life in corrosion initiation period and corrosion propagation period, the whole service life is calculated. The analysis shows that for concrete structures with 50 years service life, after considering climate changes, the service life reduces about 7%.

  • Geopolymer concrete (GPC) is one of the best substitute materials for conventional concrete in construction. The conventional concrete provided by Portland cement has a detrimental influence on the environment during its production. In this study, the bond strength, which is an important structural property, of deformed steel bars with slag-based GPC was measured. In accordance with the ASTM C234 procedure, bond strength was measured on 18 specimens of slag-based GPC with three sizes of steel bars and different embedded lengths. Two groups of GPC specimens with different compressive strengths, which were cured under ambient conditions, were tested. The results indicated that the bar diameter has a great effect on the bond strength, and the bond strength behavior of the slag-based GPC is comparable with that of conventional concrete. The ACI-318 Code for the bond strength of ordinary Portland cement concrete can be used conservatively to determine the bond strength of the GPC reinforced with deformed steel bars.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the characteristics which are slump, air content and time of set in fresh concrete and compressive strength of hardened concrete containing slag powder and fly-ash. Replacement rate of FA is fixed on 10$\%$ and replacement rate of slag powder are 0$\%$, 20$\%$ and 30$\%$. Also AE water-reducing agents(standard type, accelerating type) are used. The results were as follows. (1)Slump flow of concrete using AE water-reducing agents is similar. Flowability is incresed when replacement rate of slag powder is increased due to slag powder's ball bearing reaction.(2)Time of set of concrete using accelerating type agent is more faster than that of concrete using standard type agent because of ettringite generation that promote setting.(3)Early strength of three-component concrete using accelerating type agent is higher than that using standard type agent. Therefore cumulative pore is reduced due to ettringite

  • The objective of this study is to find the strength properties of concrete using blast furnace slag. Its mechanical strength properties investigated include compressive strength, flexural strength, and tensile strength. The main expeirmental variables were cement type, coarse aggregate size(19, 25mm), and water/cement ratio(28, 32, 36%). The principal results obtained from this study are as follows ; it was possible to obtain the compressive strength of $500{\sim}700kg/cm^2$ concrete by using the blast furnace slag. Therefore, blast furnace slag was proved to be superior to ordinary portland cement in manufacturing the high strength concrete with the same mix conditions. In the near furture, concrete using blast furnace slag is expected to be practically used in the field.

  • The study on the strength prediction using Maturity is mainly focused on, but the study on the concrete mixing blast furnace slag powder is insufficient. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between compressive strength and equivalent age by Maturity function and is to compare and examine the strength prediction of concrete mixing Blast Furnace Slag Power using ACI and Logistic Curve prediction equation. So it is intended that fundamental data are presented for quality management and process management of concrete mixing Blast Furnace Slag Power in the construction field.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine through the experimental study whether the water cooled unprocessed blast furnace slag produced in the country is useful for the fine aggregate of concrete or not. The results of this study show that the quality of the water cooled blast furnace slag is inferior to that of natural river sand and that the concrete made by substituting the water cooled blast furnace slag for fine aggregate have a tendency to decrease to some extent in strength. But if the water cooled blast furnace slag is transformed into more hardened state material, to use it as the fine aggregate of concrete will be possible.

  • The object of this study is to investigate the strength characteristics and the freeze-thaw resistance of high strength concrete incorporating fine blast furnace slag. Major experimental variables were the water/cement ratio, maximum size of coarse aggregate, and cement types such as ordinary portland and slag cement. The results were as follows ; The workability of fresh concrete incorporating fine blast furnace slag was better than that of OPC(ordinary Portland cement) in terms of slump. The freeze-thaw resistance showed better than that of OPC, keeping more than 90% of relative modules of elasticity after 506 cycles and showing only a hair crack at surface without serious damage. Thus, the fine blast furnace slag might be recycled at concrete to make high strength concrete at fields.
