Complexity Reduction of Intra Prediction in H.264/AVC (H.264/AVC를 위한 효율적인 인트라 예측 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose two methods for complexity reduction of intra prediction in H.264/AVC. One is skipping of intra prediction using inter prediction cost at current macroblock in current P picture, average of intra prediction cost in previous I picture, and average of inter prediction cost in previous P picture. The other is skipping of intra 16$\times$16 prediction using intra 4$\times$4 prediction cost and modes. As a result, complexity of intra prediction in P picture and that of intra 16$\times$16 prediction in intra prediction macroblock can be reduced by about 80~99% and 50~93%, respectively.

  • 본 논문은 비균일 분포 수동형 견인 배열 센서를 사용하여 입사각 추정은 물론, 도 플러 주파수를 동시에 추정해내기 위한 기법을 제안한다. 균일 선형 센서 배열을 사용하는 전통적인 수동형 견인 센서 배열 처리기법은 센서간의 등 간격 구조 및 단순한 표본 과정에 기인하여 활용 분야의 한계성을 가지며, 주된 응용 분야가 방사된 음향신호의 입사각을 추 정하는데만 국한되어 사용될 수 있다는 문제점을 내포하고 있다. 이러한 사실 때문에, 수중 천해 환경 하에서 견인함의 등속 이동에 의해 발생하는 도플러 주파수들에 대한 정보는 목 표물에 대한 식별이나 음향신호 전달 경로의 모델링에 중요한 매개변수로 작용하며, 일반적 인 수동형 견인 센서 배열의 사용에 의한 처리 방식으로는 이러한 매개변수의 추출이 불가 능하게 된다. 본 논문은 이러한 제한성을 극복하고 방사 신호들의 개별적인 입사각 및 도플 러 주파수의 동시 추정을 가능케하도록 비균일 분포의 선형 센서 배열과 Sample Skipping 기법(Sample Skipping Technique;SST)을 적용한 새로운 형태의 수동형 견인 배열 센서 처 리 기법을 제안한다.

Pixel Skipping with Stencil Buffer for Texture Based Volume Rendering (텍스춰 기반 볼륨 렌더링에서의 스텐실 버퍼를 이용한 픽셀 단위 건너뛰기)

  • 본 논문에서는 GPU와 스텐실 버퍼(stencil buffer) 및 깊이 버퍼(depth buffer)를 이용하여 가려진 픽셀들을 렌더링 단계 이전에 건너뛰는(skipping) 방법을 제시하고자 한다. 그래픽 카드에 기본적으로 제공되는 기능인 깊이 및 스텐실 버퍼 검사(depth & stencil buffer test)를 이용하여 이진 차폐 맵(binary occlusion map)을 만들고 이를 재사용하여 가려지는 부분의 픽셀들을 효과적으로 건너뛰게 하는 방법이다. 전체 볼륨 데이터는 팔진트리(octree) 구조를 가진 서브볼륨들로 나뉘어 저장되며 시점에 가까운 서브볼륨부터 렌더링에 사용된다. 서브볼륨들을 차례로 렌더링하면서 차폐 맵을 갱신하게 하면, 멀리 있는 서브볼륨들을 렌더링할 때 이미 가려진 픽셀들을 렌더링에서 제외할 수 있다.

An Adaptive Fast Motion Estimation Based on Directional Correlation and Predictive Values in H.264 (움직임 방향 연관 및 예측치 적용 기반 적응적 고속 H.264 움직임 추정 알고리즘의 설계)

  • This research presents an adaptive fast motion estimation (ME) computation on the stage of uneven multi-hexagon grid search (UMHGS) algorithm included in an unsymmetrical-cross multi-hexagon-grid search (UMHexagonS) in H.264 standard. The proposed adaptive method is based on statistical analysis and previously obtained motion vectors to reduce the computational complexity of ME. For this purpose, the algorithm is decomposed into three processes: skipping, terminating, and reducing search areas. Skipping and terminating are determined by the statistical analysis of the collected minimum SAD (sum of absolute difference) and the search area is constrained by the slope of previously obtained motion vectors. Simulation results show that 13%-23% of ME time can be reduced compared with UMHexagonS, while still maintaining a reasonable PSNR (peak signal-to-noise ratio) and average bitrates.

Modified Two-Level Skip-Lot Sampling Plans (수정된 2단계 스킾-로트 샘플링 검사계획)

  • Skip-lot sampling plans for lot-by-lot inspection are more desirable than the continuous sampling plans for units in modern mass production system under the condition of the submitted product is good. Perry(1973a, 1973b) extended the Dodge(1955)′s skip-lot sampling plans to single and two-level skip-lot sampling plans and Parker & Kessler (1981) modified Perry(1973a)′s plans so that a sample of size one is taken from every lot skipped during the skipping mode. In this paper, Perry(1973b)′s two-level skip-lot sampling plans are modified by applying Parker & Kessler′s plan, designated as MTSkSP1, MTSkSP2, MTSkSP3. Operating characteristic(OC) functions, average sample numbers(ASN) and average outgoing qualities(AOQ) for the proposed plans are derived using Markov chain properties and compared each other and Perry′s plans. The proposed plans not only reduce the ASN but also avoid the danger skipping lots entirely when the lots are produced during sudden "out-of-control".

  • Typical magnetic bubble propagation failure modes of ion implanted magnetic bubble computer memory devices were observed and their failure mechanisms were analize. The skidding failure mode is due to the pushing of a strong repulsive charged wall. If this pushing is stronger than the edge affinity of the bubble in the cusp, the bubble moves out of the cusp when it is supposed to stay there. The stripeout failure modes across the adjacent track or along the track can be explained by considering the relative strength of the charged wall and the edge affinity encountered by both ends of the stripe. The skipping of the first cusp of a track is believed to be due to the whipping motion of the charged wall. The bubble moves directly to the second cusp via the long charged wall pointing to the second cusp skipping the first cusp.

  • In this paper, we present the method of skipping the quantization for fast video encoding. Based on the theoretical analyzes for the integer transform and quantization in H.264 video coder, we can derive a sufficient threshold under which each quantized coefficient becomes zero. In addition, in order to reduce the complexity of the fast video encoding, complexity is improved, leading to improvement of total encoding time saving for given threshold. The simulation results show the capability of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper is a generalization of single- and two-level skip-lot sampling plans to n-level, which can considerably reduce inspection cost when the level of submitted quality is high. In every skipping inspection of the generalized sampling plan, not only skipping parameters but also inspection fractions can be freely choosed. The general formula of the operating characteristic function for the n-level skip-lot sampling plan is derived. Also the operating characteristic curves of a reference plan, two-level and three-level skip-lot sampling plans are compared.

  • 볼륨 렌더링은 3D 의료영상 데이터를 가시화하는 중용한 기법 중 하나이다. 그러나 볼륨 렌더링을 실시간으로 이룰 때, 많은 계산량을 필요로하는 것이 볼률 렌더링을 사용하는데 걸림돌이 되고 있다. 이 논문에서는 Superscalar와 VLIM(Very Long Instruction Word)의 구조를 가지고 있어 동시에 8개의 명령어 수행이 가능한 TI사의 TMS320C6201 DSP를 이용하여 3D 초음파 영상의 쉬어-웝 볼륨 렌더링을 구현하였다. 쉬어-웝 방법을 DSP 상에서 최적으로 구현하기 위하여 ray map 방법, one-to-four ray casting, ?디 skipping 방법을 제안하였다. 제안한 방법들을 이용한 볼륨 렌더링과 적용하지 않은 기존의 알고리즘을 DSP에 구현하여 PSNR과 렌더링 시간의 비교·평가를 통해 만족할 만한 영상 화질에 빠른 렌더링 성능을 얻을 수 있음을 보여주었다.

Genetic Therapies for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Beyond

  • Progressive weakness of skeletal muscle is the hallmark of muscular dystrophies. It is often accompanied by cardiomyopathy and respiratory insufficiency. It has generally been perceived as incurable diseases, while the advent of genetic therapy is changing the paradigm. Most research and achievements have been for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, while it is promising to hope for therapies for other myopathies. Drugs for nonsense read-through and exon skipping are already approved for clinical use in Europe and the United States, respectively. Gene therapy using adeno-associated virus is in early phase of clinical trial. In this review, most promising genetic therapies will be briefly described.
