With a view to utilizing effectively fish skin wastes from marine manufactory, a gelatin solution extracted from yellowfin sole skin was fractionated by precipitation with ethanol, and then the functional and physico-chemical properties for the fractionated gelatin were determined. Ethanol was added up to 50% of ethanol content to a gelatin solution extracted from yellowfin sole skin, then the mixture was left to stand at $0^{\circ}C$ for 12 hours. Finally, the precipitates were dried by hot-air ($40^{\circ}C$). The gel strength and melting point of a 10% gel of gelatin prepared from yellowfin sole skin by precipitation with ethanol has 322.4g and $23.3^{\circ}C$, respectively. The physico-chemical properties of the ethanol treated fish skin gelatin were superior to those of fish skin gelatin prepared without ethanol treatment. Besides, the functional properties of the ethanol treated gelatin were lower in solubility and higher in water holding capacity, oil binding capacity, emulsifying activity, emulsifying stability, foam expansion and foam stability than those of pork skin gelatin sold on market as well as gelatin prepared without ethanol treatment. It may be concluded, from these results, that the fish skin gelatin prepared by precipitation with ethanol can be effectively utilized as a human food by improving the functional properties.

Graduated compression stockings (GCS) have been widely used for the prophylaxis and treatment of venous diseases. Their gradient pressure function largely related to their fabric structure and material properties. By combing fabric physical testing and wear trials, this study investigated the GCSs fabric structure and material properties at different locations along the stocking hoses, and quantitatively analyzed the effects of fabrics on skin pressure longitudinal and transverse distributions. We concluded that, Structural characteristics and material properties of stocking fabrics were not uniform along the hoses, but a gradual variation from ankle to thigh regions, which significantly influenced the corresponding skin pressure gradient distributions; Tensile (WT, EM) and shearing properties (G) generated most significant differences among ankle, knee and thigh regions along the stocking hose, which significantly influenced the skin pressure lognitudinal gradient distribution. More material indices generating significant gradual changes occurred in the fabric wale direction along stocking hose, meaning that materials properties in wale direction would exert more important impact on the skin pressure gradient performances. And, the greater tensibility and smoother surface of fabric in wale direction would contribute to put stocking on and off, and facilitate wearers' leg extension-flexion movements. The indices of WT and EM of stocking fabrics in series A have strong linear correlations with skin pressure lognitudinal distribution, which largely related to their better performances in gradual changes of material properties. Skin pressure applied by fabric with same material properties produced pronounced differences among four different directions around certain cross-sections of human leg, especially at the ankle region; and, the skin pressure magnitudes at ankle region were more easily influenced by the materials properties, which were considered to be largely related to the anatomic structure of human leg.

The Mechanical properties of steel in hot strip mill were associated with the various rolling conditions such as alloy composition, plastic deformation, cooling history and so on. After coiling process of strip which is the end of hot rolling process, the coil can be the final product or can be applied by another process, that is, cold rolling or skin pass rolling with the additional changes of mechanical properties. Skin pass rolling process with the small reduction affects the mechanical properties of the strip. Because many kinds of hot strips are delivered to the customers after the skin pass process, it is important for us to know the skin pass effects for the mechanical properties of the hot rolling strip. In this study, the variations of mechanical properties of the strip after the skin pass rolling will be discussed. Then, the mathematical model will be proposed for the prediction of mechanical properties of the final products with the comparison between measured and calculated values.
Objectives: It is well known that genetic factors and environmental factors play major role in aging skin. In general, son and daughter take after their parents in appearance. But comparability of skin properties in Korean family has not been well estimated. So we evaluated the correlation of skin properties in Korean mother-daughter pairs. Methods: 10 couples of mother and daughter pair(n=20) participate in this study. Mothers and daughters were aged $50.6{\pm}2.459$ and $23.8{\pm}2.15$ years, respectively. Skin moisture, sebum, skin color and elasticity is measured using non-invasive method : Corneometer CM825, Sebumeter(MPA580), Mexameter MX18, Cutometer MPA580. Statistical analysis program we used is Minitab 14 Korea. Results: The Skin moisture of mother group was significantly higher than daughter group. And skin elasticity(R2) of the daughter group was significantly higher than mother group. In the results of correlation analysis between mother and daughter pairs, skin elasticity(R2) had high positive correlation(r=0.729, p=0.026). But skin moisture, sebum, melanin index, erythema index and skin elasticity(R5) did not be confirmed a significant correlation. Conclusions: Skin elasticity(R2) is the only factor that showed high positive correlation significantly in mother and daughter pairs. Mother and daughter share the genetic factors and environmental factors that influence skin aging. So, mother's aging pattern will be a good guide for anti-aging of daughters.

Objectives : We investigated the skin properties on the periorbital region and cheek of Korean female according to age pattern by 7year based on Sang Go Cheun Jin Ron (上古天眞論) in So Moon (素問,) Methods : 49 Korean females, aged 21-56 years ($39.54{\pm}10.04$ years) were participated in this study. We measured the skin properties of periorbital region and cheek with SkinTouch (Amorepacific, Korea). Skin moisture, sebum, elasticity, lightness, roughness, area of wrinkle, depth of wrinkle were assessed. Results : Differences were noticed depending on the site and age. The level of moisture was higher on the eyelid than crow's feet. The level of lightness and elasticity were lower on the periorbital region than cheek. Skin lightness was highest on group1(under 28y) and lowest on group5(over 49y). Skin roughness was highest on group1(under 28y) and lowest on group4(over 42y under 49y). The level of wrinkle are was lowest on group1(under 28y) and highest on group 5(over49y). The level of wrinkle depth was lowest on group1(under 28y) and highest on group 4(over 42y under 49y). Conclusion : Unique aging pattern by 7 years of female is reflected to diverse skin properties of eyes. It can be possible to apply the theory on Sang Go Cheun Jin Ron (上古天眞論) to practical use in dermatology and cosmetic.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the mechanical properties on drapability in the peach skin-like finished fabrics. For this study, the samples used were 50 kinds of peach skin-like finished fabrics. The mechanical properties such as tensile, shearing, bending, compressional, surface characteristic values, thickness and weight were measured with a KES-F system and drupe coefficient by drape tester. The relationship between the characteristic values and drape coefficicients of the peach skin-like finished fabrics results were obtained. 1. Peach skin-like finished fabric had $\pm$2o range of shearing, bending, compression, surface. properties, thickness and weight as compared with Japanese women's thin fabrics. The characteristic mixing values were better with the values of WC/T, W/T, etc. as compared with that of japanese women's thin fabrics. Accordingly, the peach skin-like finished fabrics had a little volume, excellent hanging and drapability as compared with japanese women's thin fabrics. 2. The drape coefficient of peach skin-like finished fabric had a high level of correlation between 2HB, G, WC, MIU, WT, MMD, 2HG, RT, W, B etc. of the mechanical properties. The blocked properties that contributed to the drape coefficient of peach skin-like finished fabrics were in the order of the bending> tensile> thickness> weight properties. This drape coefficients(DC) were found by measuring the mechanical properties according to the obtained regress on equate on. DC=99.0179+17.9023 log G -17.0543 log 2HG5+17.2104 log 2HG+35.7685 log 2HB+ 4.6082 log B-30.5906 log T+4.2308 log W 3. The contribution to the drape coefficient of the characteristic mixing values of peach skin-like finished fabric was in the order of > 2HB/W> 2HB/B> B/W The drape coefficients were found by measuring the characteristic mixing values according to the obtained regression equation. 4. The drape coefficients of peach skin-like finished fabrics were influenced by the differences between the bending of warp direction, bending of weft direction, shearing etc which in turn determine the level of hanging. The regression equation was as follows; 5. The drape coefficients of peach skin.like finished fabrics had a highly positive correlation with the node index. It has an negative correlation with number of nodes.
Real-time measurements of skin movement induced by air blown on the surface was measured with time. We investigated age-related changes in displacement of the skin surface on the face or the inner upper arm caused by air on 98 Japanese women volunteers aged from 10 to 70 years old. The maximum distance (the denting state) that the skin moved reached 2-5 mm within 10-15 msec on the cheek skin. After that, the skin generally recovered to the original state within 40-50 msec. The maximum speed of movement was 0.5 m/sec and the recovery speed was about 0.25 m/sec on the cheek skin. Significant changes with age were not observed in the denting state, but a significant correlation with age was observed in the recovery state. For example, the maximum recovery speed decreased significantly with age (p=-0.568, p<0.001) and the time required for recovery increased significantly with age (p=0.561, p<0.001). Although the inner upper arm also showed similar results to a cheek, a few parameters were different. This apparatus is a more practical macroscopic system for evaluating skin mechanical properties without contact. This apparatus is effective not only for measuring the mechanical properties of facial skin but also of body skin, such as swelling or sagging of body parts.

This study investigated the impacts of gelatin hydrolysate addition on the technological properties and lipid oxidation stability of cooked sausage. Gelatin hydrolysate was prepared from pork and duck skin gelatin, through stepwise hydrolysis using collagenase and pepsin. The cooked sausages were formulated without gelatin (control) or with 1% pork skin gelatin, 1% duck skin gelatin, 1% pork skin gelatin hydrolysate, and 1% duck skin gelatin hydrolysate. The pH, color characteristics, protein solubility, cooking loss, and textural properties of cooked sausages were evaluated, and the 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) value was measured weekly to determine lipid oxidation stability during 4 wk of refrigerated storage. Enzymatic hydrolysis of gelatin decreased protein content and CIE L* but increased redness and yellowness (p<0.05). When 1% gelatin or gelatin hydrolysate was incorporated in cooked sausage, however, little to no impacts on pH value, moisture content, protein content, color characteristics, protein solubility, and cooking loss were found (p>0.05). The addition of 1% duck skin gelatin hydrolysate increased the cohesiveness and chewiness of cooked sausages. The inclusion of 1% duck skin gelatin accelerated lipid oxidation of cooked sausages during refrigerated storage (p<0.05), whereas duck skin gelatin hydrolysate caused a lower TBARS value in cooked sausage compared to duck skin gelatin. The results show comparable effects of gelatin and gelatin hydrolysate addition on the technological properties of cooked sausages; however, the oxidative stability of raw materials for gelatin extraction should be evaluated clearly in further studies.

Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) was used to investigate the possibility for application in identification of apple cultivars. Three apple cultivars ‘Kamhong, Hwahong, and Fuji’ produced in Korea were scanned over the range of 1100-2500nm using NIRS (Infra Alzer 500). Two types of samples were used for scanning; one was apple with skin and the other was apple without skin. For cultivar identification, the NIR absorbance spectrums were analyzed by qualitative calibration in “Sesame” analysis program, and the various influence properties such as sugar contents, acidity, color, firmness, and micro-structure were compared in scanned samples. The ‘Kamhong’ cultivar could be identified from ‘Hwahong’ and ‘Fuji’ cultivars using the cluster model analysis. The test samples in calibration between ‘Kamhong’ and ‘Fuji’ cultivars could be completely identified. The test samples in calibration between ‘Kamhong’ and ‘Hwahong’ cultivars could be identified most of all. But, ‘Hwahong’ and ‘Fuji’ cultivars could not be quite classified each other. The apple skin influenced the identification process of apple cultivars. The samples without skin were more difficult to classify in calibration than the samples with skin. The physicochemical properties of apple cultivars showed like the result of identification in calibration using NIRS. Some physicochemical properties of ‘Kamhong’ cultivar were different from those of the other cultivars. Those of ‘Hwahong’ and ‘Fuji’ cultivars showed. similar to each other. The sucrose contents of ‘Kamhong’ cultivar were higher and the fructose contents and firmness of skin and flesh were lower than those of the others. The hypodermis layer of skin in ‘Kamhong’ cultivar was thinner than those of the others. In this studies, the identification of all apple cultivars by NIRS was not quite accurate because of the physicochemical properties which were different in the same cultivar, and inconsistent patterns by culivars in some properties. To solve these problems in NIRS application for apple cultivar identification, further study should be focused on the use of peculiar properties among the apple cultivars.
Based on the equivalence principles of physical properties, geometric properties and externally applied forces between a surface and the corresponding curves, we present a fast physics and example based skin deformation method for character animation in this paper. The main idea is to represent the skin surface and its deformations with a group of curves whose computation incurs much less computing overheads than the direct surface-based approach. The geometric and physical properties together with externally applied forces of the curves are determined from those of the surface defined by these curves according to the equivalence principles between the surface and the curves. This ensures the curve-based approach is equivalent to the original problem. A fourth order ordinary differential equation is introduced to describe the deformations of the curves between two example skin shapes which relates geometric and physical properties and externally applied forces to shape changes of the curves. The skin deformation is determined from these deformed curves. Several examples are given in this paper to demonstrate the application of the method.
