철도차량용 금속계 소결마찰재의 조성에 따른 트라이볼로지 특성 (Effects of Composition of Metallic Friction Materials on Tribological Characteristics on Sintered Metallic Brake Pads and Low-Alloy Heat-Resistance Steel for Trains)

  • Sintered metallic brake pads and low alloy heat resistance steel disks are applied to mechanical brake systems in high energy moving machines that are associated with recently developed 200km/h trains. This has led to the speed-up of conventional urban rapid transit. In this study, we use a lab-scale dynamometer to investigate the effects of the composition of friction materials on the tribological characteristics of sintered metallic brake pads and low alloy heat resistance steel under dry sliding conditions. We conduct test under a continuous pressure of 5.5 MPa at various speeds. To determine the optimal composition of friction materials for 200 km/h train, we test and the evaluate frictional characteristics such as friction coefficients, friction stability, wear rate, and the temperature of friction material, which depend on the relative composition of the Cu-Sn and Fe components. The results clearly demonstrate that the average friction coefficient is lower for all speed conditions, when a large quantity of iron power is added. The specimen of 25 wt% iron powder that was added decreased the wear of the friction materials and the roughness of the disc surface. However when 35 wt% iron powder was added, the disc roughness and the wear rate of friction materials increased By increasing the amount of iron powder, the surface roughness, and temperature of the friction materials increased, so the average friction coefficients decreased. An oxidation layer of $Fe_2O_3$ was formed on both friction surfaces.

  • An interlaboratory wear testing was performed in order to understand the friction behaviors and the wear mechanisms of the sintered composites. The specimens were the sintered bronze matrix composites having various contents of friction additives, friction control agents and reinforcements. The variation of the wear characteristics according to the constituents of the composites as well as the wear conditions was investigated by SEM, EPMA, OM, the hardness testing and the measurement of friction. The specimen having glass fiber as the matrix reinforcement showed a remarkable increase in wear resistance as increasing the content of glass fiber. Graphite particles in the composites exhibited the lubricating effect and also resulted in the lowering strength of the matrix. Addition of Mo powder to the composites led to the deterioration of wear properties at the room temperature, however, an enhanced wear properties were obtained in the containing Mo at an elevated temperature.

  • SiC had been widely applied for mechanical sealing as a sealing material. SiC sintering is commonly made of reaction sintering, presureless sintering, and hot isostatic pressing (HIP) sintering. In this investigation, however, clay bonded sintering was used to avoide any complications of the special sintering methods as mentioned above. In order to prevent harmful SiC oxidation in the clay bonded sintering, clay and frit were used to form the SiC oxidation protecting layer and graphite was added to provide high solid lubricity. As a result, the material with 6% clay (clay 5.4% and frit 0.6%) and 2~4% graphite (45 mesh) sintered at 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours, showed the following physical properties; porosity 6%, static friction coefficient 0.15, kinematic coefficient 0.1,. and specific wear rate 4.8$\times$10-8 $\textrm{mm}^2$kgf-1. On the other hand, the flexural strength was 900kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. This tribological characteristic properties were similar to those of the reaction sintered SiC except the flexural strength.

  • Abstract- In this paper tribological characteristics of solid and liquid phase sintered W/C-35%Ni tappets were investigated. Three test methods were performed to investigate the wear and surface damage mechanism of sintered tappets. First, block-on-ring wear test was performed to investigate the wear characteristics under pure sliding condition. Second, simplified cam and tappet tests (called component wear test hereafter) were carried out to simulate the real contact history of cam and tappet. Also, after the test, contact surfaces were analyzed with scanning electron microscope to study the wear mechanism. As a final screening, engine dynamo tests were performed. Results showed that in the block on ring sliding wear test, solid phase sintered specimens showed superior wear resistance to liquid phase sintered specimens. The component wear tests and engine dynamo tests also showed the same results. Therefore, in these tests, solid phase sintered tappet material revealed superior wear resistant properties to liquid phase sintered one.

초음파의 파형 해석에 의한 고감쇠 재료의 평가 (Evaluation of High Attenuation Material Using Utrasonic Wave Analysis)

  • 본 논문은 초음파법을 이용하여 소결 재료의 비파괴적인 평가 방법을 확립하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 소결 재료의 밀도는 소결체로 제작되는 동안 금형과 분말사이의 마찰 때문에 부분적으로 불균질한 분포를 가지고 있으며 이 불균질성은 에너지 감쇠 계수 및 초음파 반사 에코의 주파수 스펙트럼에 있어 중심 주파수의 변화량에 의해 조사되었다. 초음파의 속도, 탄성계수, 포와송 비는 소결 재료의 밀도와 비례 관계에 있었으며 저면 반사파의 중심 주파수는 초음파의 전파 거리의 증가 및 밀도의 감소에 따라 저주파수 쪽으로 이동하였으나 에너지 감쇠 계수는 밀도의 증가에 따라 감소하고 있었다. 본 논문에서는 반사파의 주파수 스펙트럼에 있어 중심 주파수의 변화가 소결 재료의 비파괴적인 평가 방법으로써의 가능성을 보여주고 있다.

탄소섬유가 혼합된 세라믹 복합재 제동마찰재의 마찰·마모 특성 (Tribological Properties of Ceramic Composite Friction Materials Reinforced by Carbon Fibers)

  • Because the running speed of vehicles is increasing and a shorter braking distance is required, high heat-resistant brake pads are needed to satisfy the requirements of customers and car makers. In the near future, hazardous materials such as Cu, Cr, Zn, and Sb will be restricted from use in friction materials. Ceramic composites reinforced by carbon fibers are good candidates for eco-friendly friction materials. In this study, we develop ceramic composite friction materials. The friction materials are composed of carbon fibers, Si, SiC, graphite, and phenol resin and are prepared by hot forming and heat treatment at high temperatures. The density, void ratio, and compressive strength are $1.59-1.66g/cm^3$, 16.6-20, and 70-90 MPa, respectively. Friction and wear tests are performed using a pin-on-plate-type reciprocating friction tester at 25, 100, and $200^{\circ}C$. The counterpart material is a CrMoV steel extracted from a KTX brake disc. Friction coefficient, wear amount, and wear mechanism are measured and examined. We determine that the friction coefficients depend on the temperature and the fluctuation of the friction coefficients is larger at higher temperatures. The amount of wear increases with the surface temperatures of the specimens. The tribological properties of the developed composites are similar to those of a Cu-based sintered friction material. Through this study, it is confirmed that ceramic composite materials can be used as friction materials.

고속철도 차량용 소결 마찰재료 개발 (Development of the Sintered Friction Material for the High Speed Railway)

  • Dawin Friction Corp. has been advanced sintered brake pad for Korean concept high speed train (so called G7 train) with KRRI, You Jin and Rotem without the assistance of foreign company. In the course of development, the evaluation of our and foreign disk pads was performed by lab scale dynamometer and full scale dynamometer. As the result of dynamo test, it is shown that our developed brake disk is equal or superior to those of foreign companies in many respects, for example, wear resistance, noise, etc. The new brake pad which is developed through 'post G7-project' is equipped with G7 train and is under many tests without any problems at the present moment.

  • A high nitrogen PM tool steel has shown to have an excellent galling resistance due to the introduction of a high amount of a low friction phase predominantly consisting of VN. Tool making and heat treatment are according to standard procedures. An increase of tool life of more than two times compared to ordinary tool steels is found. Furthermore, the new low friction tool steel shows a potential for sintered parts with higher densities through the applica bility of increased compaction pressure or minimized lubricant amount.

  • The development of high performance materials is very important subject in order to enhance the properties of bearings whose role is to transfer energy harmoniously by reducing the problem of friction and wear down, etc. between the interacting solid surfaces in relative motion under high loads in comply with mechanical operating mechanism of engines. In this study, several (100-x)Al-xSn coating films (where x=85, 75, 65 atomic % at Al) on substrates which are abt. 2mm thickenss of Kelmet layer sintered back steel were prepared by using RF sputtering system. These coating films were observed the morphology by SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) and investigated the crystal structure by XRD(X-ray Diffractor) for their properties. And friction coefficient of these films was measured by ball-on-disc tester for their tribological properties. From the experimental results, it was shown that high performance properties of bearing can be improved greatly by controlling the composition and morphology of material surface with effective use of the plasma-assisted sputtering process.
