  • Sinterability and stability of TZP ceramics co-stabilized by 12 mol% CeO2 and divalent or trivalent oxides less than 1 mol% were investigated. Divalent and trivalent oxides increased stability of tetragonal ZrO2. 100% tetragonal ZrO2 phase was obtained by doping 12 mol% CeO2 and 0.2 mol% CaO and MgO respectively when sintering was carried out at 1500$^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. Divalent and trivalent oxides improved sinterability and inhibit grain growth of ZrO2. And it was found that CaO was the most effective sintering aid and grain growth inhibitor for ZrO2 in this study. Incorporation of divalent and trivalent oxides into 12Ce-TZP increased the strength of 12Ce-TZP and particulary 12Ce, 0.4Ca-TZP exhibited a flexural strength of about twofold greater than 12Ce-TZP.

Behaviors and Process Analyses of Spark Sintering for Powders Having a Low Sinterability

  • The sintering behaviors and process parameters of some compounds (carbides, oxides, sulfides, borides) were investigated experimentally. These compounds were successfully consolidated and showed high densities. Some unique phenomena such as retardation of grain growth, suppression of thermal decomposition and maintenance of initial non-equilibrium phases, were observed by the proper control of process in spark sintering.

  • In order to depress PbO vaporization during calcination and improve sinterability in low temperature, a method for preparing homogeous Lead-Zirconate-Titanate (PZT) powder from aqueous salt solution by precipitation is described. In this method, single phae PZT fine powders are formed at above 500$^{\circ}C$. PZT-ceramics using these powders have high sinterability, and good sintering characteristics relatively low temp. (-high apparent density, low porosity, low water adsorption etc.)

  • Sinterability and microwave dielectric properties of $xZWO_{4}-(1-x)TiO_{2}$ ceramic systems with zinc-borosilicate glass and $TiO_{2}$ contents for LTCC(Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics) were investigated. The addition of $3{\sim}10\;wt%$ ZBS glass ensured the sinterability below $900^{\circ}C$. In general, increasing ZBS glass content seemed to enhance the sinterability, but the quality factor($Qxf_{0}$) significantly decreased due to the formation of an excessive liquid and second phases. As for the addition of $TiO_{2}$, the dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}_{r}$) and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency(${\tau}_{f}$) showed to increase, while the quality factor($Qxf_{0}$) did not show an apparent change. The composition of $0.7xZnWO_{4}-0.3TiO_{2}$ ceramics sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ with 5 wt% ZBS glass demonstrated 21.6 in dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}_{r}$), 14,800 in quality factor($Qxf_{0}$), and $+5\;ppm/^{\circ}C$ in temperature coefficient of resonant frequency(${\tau}_{f}$).

습식법으로 제조한 수산화아파타이트 분말의 소결과 그 기계적 성질에 미치는 pHqus화의 영향 (Effect of pH Variation on the Sintering of Hydroxyapatite Powders Prepared by the Wet Method and their Mechanical Properties)

  • Effect of pH variation in starting solution for the making of hydroxyapatite powder was studied in relation to the sinterability of the powder and their mechanical properties of the sintered hydroxyapatite ceramics. The sinterability of hydroxyapatite powder prepared at different pH was found to be improved with increase in pH value of the starting solutions. Thus the powders prepared from the higher pH solutions including 10.5, 11.0 and 11.5 could be well densified almost upto theoretical density by firing for 1 hr at 1,00$0^{\circ}C$. But the powder based on pH 10 exhibited less sinterability even being fired at much higher temperature of 1,10$0^{\circ}C$, it gave only 90-95% of theoretical density. On the other hand the powder prepared on the lowest pH value 9.5 could not be well densified and it could obtain only 78% of theoretical density even by firing at 1,30$0^{\circ}C$ for 1hr. It was found that prismatic crystals of whitlockite were always included in the sintered bodies based on the lower pH values as a minority crystalline phase together with the major crystalline phase of hydroxyapatite and its inclusion might impair the sinterability of powder. However in the case of the higher pH, the powder contained only hydroxyapatite as a crystalline phase on sintering without any minorities. The sphere shape of crystals might help effectively the densification of the bodies. The best mechanical properties could be obtained from the body of pH 11 sintered at 1,10$0^{\circ}C$, which gave 99.5% of theoretical density, 662Kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$ of vickers hardness and 1,352Kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ of diameteral compression strength.

AUC 공정으로 변환된 $UO_2$ 분말의 소결성에 미치는 Ball-milling효과 (Ball-milling Effect on the Sinterability of the $UO_2$ ex-AUC Powder)

  • AUC 공정으로 변환된 $UO_2$ 분말의 ball-milling 효과를 관찰하기 위하여 ball-milling 시간에 따른 소결성을 연구하였다. Ball-milling된 분말은 구형화 형태를 보이며, 그의 입자 크기 분포는 bimodal 양상을 나타냈다. 분말크기 분포가 bimodal인 경우, 그의 packing ratio가 monomodal gaussian 분포에 비해 높다. Ball-milling된 분말의 소결밀도 증가는 packing ratio에 의한 영향이 컸으며, ball-milling 시간이 길어질수록 packing ratio는 증가 하였다. AUC 공정으로 변환된 $UO_2$ 분말은 ball-milling을 함으로써, 그의 소결성이 향상됨을 확인하였다.

고온수증기전기분해용 La1-x(Ca or Sr)xCrO3(x=0 and 0.25) 연결재 재료 연구 (Investigation of the La1-x(Ca or Sr)xCrO3x=0 and 0.25) Interconnect Materials for High Temperature Electrolysis of Steam)

  • 고온 수증기 전기분해용 $La_{1-x}(Ca\;or\;Sr)xCrO_3$(x=0 and 0.25) 연결재 재료의 소결도와 전기 전도도에 대해서 연구하였다. 이러한 목적으로 $LaCrO_3$, $La_{0.75}Ca_{0.25}CrO_3$(LCC)와 $La_{0.75}Sr_{0.25}CrO_3$(LSC) 분말들은 공침법을 통해 합성하였으며, 결정구조는 X-Ray Diffraction(XRD)를 통해 확인하였다. 소결 특성은 상대밀도와 주사 전자현미경을 통해 분석하였고 전기 전도도는 직렬 4-단자 법으로 측정하였다. 상대 밀도 분석으로부터 도핑된 $LaCrO_3$$LaCrO_3$보다 더 높은 소결성을 나타내었고, 입자 크기가 작을수록 소결성이 향상하는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. 다양한 소결온도에서 얻은 LCC, LSC 시편들의 XRD 결과는 LCC와 LSC의 소결성이 2차상의 상전이와 밀접한 관련이 있다는 사실을 나타내었다. 다시 말해, LCC는 $1,300^{\circ}C$ 이상, LSC는 $1,400^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 2차상이 융해됨으로써 소결성을 현저하게 향상시킨다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 비슷한 상대밀도를 가진 LCC와 LSC의 전기 전도도를 비교 측정한 결과, LCC가 LSC보다 더 높은 전기 전도도를 나타낸다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
