We present the results of dust scattering simulations carried out for the Orion Eridanus Superbubble region by comparing them with observations made in the far-ultraviolet. The albedo and the phase function asymmetry factor (g-factor) of interstellar grains were estimated as well as the distance and thickness of the dust layers. The results are: 0.39-0.45 for the albedo and 0.25-0.65 for the g-factor, in good agreement with previous determinations and theoretical predictions. The distance of the assumed single dust layer, modeled for the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, was estimated to be -110 pc and the thickness ranged from -130 at the core to -50 pc at the boundary for the region of the present interest, implying that the dust cloud is located in front of the Superbubble. The simulation result also indicates that a thin (-10 pc) dust shell surrounds the inner X-ray cavities of hot gas at a distance of -70-90 pc.

We analyzed radiative properties of aerosols, $CO^{2}$ and clouds using Optical Properties of Aerosols and Clouds(OPAC) and the Column Radiation Model (CRM). From OPAC, if the soot component is disregarded, dust-like components depict the highest extinction values in the solar spectral range and the lowest. single scattering albedoes, which are attributable to the presence of large particles. In the dust aerosol, the high absorptivity in the infrared may induce a warming of the lower atmospheric layer in the nighttime. The radiative properties of aerosols, clouds and double $CO^{2}$ using the CRM model at Seoul (37N, 127.4 E) on 3 April 2003 were calculated. The solar zenith angle is 65˚ and the surface albedo is 0.1836 during the clear day. The aerosol optical depth change 0.14 to 1.7, which is derived during Asian dust days in Korea. At this time, abedo by aerosols is considered as 0.3. In cloudy condition, the short wave cloud forcing on both the TOA and the surface is -193.89 $Wm^{-2}$ and -195.03 $Wm^{-2}$, respectively, and the long wave cloud forcing is 19.58 $Wm^{-2}$ and 62.08 $Wm^{-2}$, respectively. As a result, the net radiative cloud forcing is -174.31 $Wm^{-2}$ and -132.95 $Wm^{-2}$, respectively. We calculate also radiative heating rates by double $CO^{2}$ during the clear day. The $CO^{2}$ volumn mixing ratio is 3.55E-4.

In this paper, we proposed airborne target recognition using multi-channel combining method in DTV-based passive radar. By combining multi-channel signals, we obtained the HRRP with sufficient range resolution. HRRP was obtained by AR method or zero-padding. From the obtained HRRP, we extracted scattering centers by CLEAN algorithm using the gradient descent. We extracted feature vectors and performed target recognition after training neural network using the extracted feature vectors. To verify performance of proposed methods, we assumed frequency bands of three broadcasting transmitters operated in Korea(Mt. Gwan-ak, Mt. Yong-moon, Kyeon-wol-ak) and used full scale 3D CAD model of four targets. Also we compared the target recognition performance of the proposed method with that of using only single-channel of three broadcasting transmitters. As a result, proposed methods showed better performance than using only single-channel at three broadcasting transmitters.
Images taken in haze weather are characteristic of low contrast and poor visibility. The process of reconstructing clear-weather image from a hazy image is called dehazing. The main challenge of image dehazing is to estimate the transmission map or depth map for an input hazy image. In this paper, we propose a single image dehazing method by utilizing the Generative Adversarial Network(GAN) for accurate depth map estimation. The proposed GAN model is trained to learn a nonlinear mapping between the input hazy image and corresponding depth map. With the trained model, first the depth map of the input hazy image is estimated and used to compute the transmission map. Then a guided filter is utilized to preserve the important edge information of the hazy image, thus obtaining a refined transmission map. Finally, the haze-free image is recovered via atmospheric scattering model. Although the proposed GAN model is trained on synthetic indoor images, it can be applied to real hazy images. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves superior dehazing results against the state-of-the-art algorithms on both the real hazy images and the synthetic hazy images, in terms of quantitative performance and visual performance.

This paper presents a study on the calibration of a C-band HPS(Hongik Polarimetric Scatterometer) system using the DMMCT(Differential Mueller Matrix Calibration Technique). For calibration of the polarimetric scatterometer system, a fully-polarimetric antenna pattern(magnitudes and phase-differences) of the antenna main-beam is measured using a conducting sphere at anechoic chamber. The polarimetric scatterometer system could be accurately calibrated after retrieving its distortions using the DMMCT. Unlike a single-polarimetric system, in a fully-polarimetric system, not only backscattering coefficients but also phase differences are important parameters. This calibrated HPS system can be used to measure accurate Mueller matrices of bare soil surfaces, rice paddies, and vegetation fields. The phase-difference parameters as well as the backscattering coefficients for co- and cross-polarizations can then be obtained. The accuracy of calibration was verified by comparing the measured backscattering coefficients with a scattering model. The measured polarization response of a plowed bare field was also compared with the polarization response which was synthesized using a polarimetric scattering model for verifying the calibration technique.
During fast neutron imaging, besides the dark current noise and readout noise of the CCD camera, the main noise in fast neutron imaging comes from high-energy gamma rays generated by neutron nuclear reactions in and around the experimental setup. These high-energy gamma rays result in the presence of high-density gamma white spots (GWS) in the fast neutron image. Due to the microscopic quantum characteristics of the neutron beam itself and environmental scattering effects, fast neutron images typically exhibit a mixture of Gaussian noise. Existing denoising methods in neutron images are difficult to handle when dealing with a mixture of GWS and Gaussian noise. Herein we put forward a deep learning approach based on the Swin Transformer UNet (SUNet) model to remove high-density GWS-Gaussian mixture noise from fast neutron images. The improved denoising model utilizes a customized loss function for training, which combines perceptual loss and mean squared error loss to avoid grid-like artifacts caused by using a single perceptual loss. To address the high cost of acquiring real fast neutron images, this study introduces Monte Carlo method to simulate noise data with GWS characteristics by computing the interaction between gamma rays and sensors based on the principle of GWS generation. Ultimately, the experimental scenarios involving simulated neutron noise images and real fast neutron images demonstrate that the proposed method not only improves the quality and signal-to-noise ratio of fast neutron images but also preserves the details of the original images during denoising.

Bone marrow (BM) derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are pluripotent cells which can differentiate into osteogenic, adipogenic and other lineages. In spite of the broad interest, the information about the changes in BM cell composition, in particularly about the variation of MSC number and their properties in relation to the age of the donor is still controversial. The aim of this study was to investigate the age associated changes in variations of BM cell composition, phenotype and differentiation capacities of MSC using a rat model. Cell populations were characterized by flow cytometry using light scattering parameters, DNA content and a set of monoclonal antibodies. Single cell analysis was performed by conventional fluorescent microscopy. In vitro culture of MSC was established and their phenotype and capability for in vitro differentiation into osteogenic and adipogenic cells was shown. Age related changes in tibiae and femurs, amount of BM tissue, BM cell composition, proportions of separated MSC and yield of MSC in 2 weeks of in vitro culture were found. At the same time, neither change in phenotype no in differentiation capacities of MSC was registered. Age-related changes of the number of MSC should be taken into account whenever MSC are intended to be used for investigations.
We analyze the link availability of satellite-to-ground free-space optical (FSO) communication systems in South Korea. Using ten-year meteorological data for five major cities (Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, and Gwangju), we theoretically predict the link availability from the power losses induced by absorption, scattering, aerosols, and scintillation in the atmospheric channel. For accurate but conservative estimation of the link availability determined by cloud cover, we propose a loss model based on the maximum value of cloud droplet concentration. The results show that the link availability ranges from 45% to 70% when a single ground station is placed in a major city in South Korea and a 20-dB link budget is allocated for atmospheric loss. However, the availabilities improve to 90% and 97% when 3- and 5-site diversities are employed, respectively.

The ground motions of large dimensional structures such as long span bridges at different stations during an earthquake, are inevitably different, which is known as the ground motion spatial variation effect. There are many causes that may result in the spatial variability in seismic ground motion, e.g., the wave passage effect due to the different arrival times of waves at different locations; the loss of coherency due to seismic waves scattering in the heterogeneous medium of the ground; the site amplification effect owing to different local soil properties. In previous researches, the site amplification effects have not been considered or considered by a single-layered soil model only. In this study, however, the ground motion amplification and filtering effects are evaluated by multi-layered soil model. Spatially varying ground motion at the sites with different number of layers, depths, and soil characteristics are generated and the variation characteristics of ground motion time histories according to the correlation of coherency loss function and soil conditions are evaluated. For the bridge system composed of two unit bridges, seismic behavior characteristics are analyzed using the generated seismic waves as input ground motion. Especially, relative displacement due to coherency loss and site effect which can cause the unseating and pounding between girders are evaluated. As a result, considering the soil conditions of each site are always important and should not be neglected for an accurate structural response analysis.
We have investigated the optical properties of the global haze on Titan from spectra recorded between 7100 and $9200{\AA}$, where $CH_4$ absorption bands of various intensities occur. The Titan spectra were obtained on Feb. 23, 2005 (UT), near the times of the Cassini T3 flyby and Huygens probe, using an optical echelle spectrograph (BOES) on the 1.8-m telescope at Bohyunsan Observatory in Korea. In order to derive the optical properties of the haze as a function of altitude, we developed an inversion radiative-transfer program using an atmospheric model of Titan and laboratory $CH_4$ absorption coefficients available from the literature. The derived extinction coefficients of the haze increase toward the surface, and the coefficients at shorter wavelengths are greater than those at longer wavelengths for the 30 - 120 km altitude range, indicating that the Titanian haze becomes optically thin toward the longer wavelength range. Total optical depths of the haze are estimated to be 1.4 and 1.2 for the 7270 - $7360{\AA}$ and 8940 - $9150{\AA}$ ranges, respectively. Based on the Huygens/DISR data set, Tomasko et al. (2005) reported total optical depths of 2.5 - 3.5 at $8290{\AA}$, depending on the assumed fractal aggregate particle model. The total optical depths based on our results are smaller than those of Tomasko et al., but they partially overlap with their results if we consider a large uncertainty from possible variations of the $CH_4$ mixing ratio over Titan's disk. We also derived the single scattering albedo of the haze particles as a function of altitude: it is less than 0.5 at altitudes higher than ${\sim}150\;km$, and approaches 1.0 toward the surface. This behavior suggests that, at altitudes above ${\sim}150\;km$, the average particle radius is smaller than the wavelengths, whereas near the surface, it becomes comparable or greater.
