Most diagnostic devices in the medical field use X-ray sources, which emit energy spectra. In radiological diagnosis, the quantitative and qualitative analyses of X-rays are essential for maintaining the image quality and minimizing the radiation dose to patients. This work aims to obtain the X-ray energy spectra used in diagnostic imaging by Monte Carlo simulation. Various X-ray spectra are simulated using a Monte Carlo simulation tool. These spectra are then compared to the reference data obtained with a tungsten anode spectral model using the interpolating polynomial (TASMIP) code. The X-ray tube voltages used are 50, 60, 80, 100, and 110 kV, respectively. CdTe and a-Se detector are used as the detectors for obtaining the X-ray spectra. Simulation results demonstrate that the various X-ray spectra are well matched with the reference data. Based on the simulation results, an appropriate X-ray spectrum, in accordance with the tube voltage, can be selected when generating an image for diagnostic imaging. The dose to be delivered to the patient can be predicted prior to examination in the diagnostic field.

In this paper, we have implemented soil simulation using fluid simulation technology. A widely used NVIDIA FleX was used to represent the soil generated by excavation work. FleX is a particle-based physics simulation library that combines SPH (Smoothed-particle hydrodynamics) and Position Based Dynamics techniques. However, since the soil has not only fluid properties but also non-fluid properties, it is difficult to simulate with the functions provided by conventional FleX. In this study, we added a technique to simulate non-fluid behavior using existing Flex. This can lead to effective results improvement at low cost.

Simulation-based virtual testing is known to be a major requirement for verifying the safety of autonomous driving functions. However, in the simulation environment, there is a difficulty in that all driving environments related to the autonomous driving system must be realistically modeled. In particular, C-ITS (Cooperative-Intelligent Transport Systems) is essential for urban autonomous driving of Lv.4, but the approach to modeling for C-ITS service in the MILS (Model in the Loop Simulation) environment is not yet clear. Therefore, this paper aims to deal with V2X (Vehicle to Everything) modeling methods to effectively apply C-ITS-based autonomous cooperative driving services in the MILS environment. First, major C-ITS services and use cases for autonomous cooperative driving are analyzed, and a modeling method of V2X signals for C-ITS service simulation is proposed. Based on the modeled V2X messages, the validity of the proposed approach is reviewed through simulations on the C-ITS service use case.
The purpose of this study is to analyze teachers' understanding on generating random number in Monte Carlo simulation and to provide educational implications in school practice. The results showed that the 70% of the teachers selected wrong ideas from three types for random-number as strategies for problem solving a probability problem and also they make some errors to justify their opinion. The first kind of the errors was that the probability of a point or boundary was equal to the value of the probability density function in the continuous probability distribution. The second kind of the errors was that the teachers failed to recognize that the sample space has been changed by conditional probability. The third kind of the errors was that when two random variables X, Y are independence of each other, then only, joint probability distribution is satisfied $P(X=x,\;Y=y)=p(X=x){\times}P(Y=y{\mid}X=x)$.
Results of Monte Carlo simulations on amorphous silicon based x-ray imaging arrays are described. In order to investigate the characteristics of amorphous silicon x-ray imaging devices and to provide the optimum design parameter, Monte Carlo simulations were performed. Monte Carlo simulation codes for our purpose were developed and various combinations of x-ray peak voltages, aluminum filter thicknesses, CsI(TI) thicknesses, and amorphous silicon photodiode pixel sizes were tested in connection with detection efficiency and spatial resolution of the amorphous silicon based x-ray imager. With usual Csl(TI) thickness of 300${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$-500${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, detection efficiency was in the range of 70%-95% and energy absorption efficiency was in the range of 40%-70% for 60kVp-120kVp x-ray. From the simulations it was found that amorphous silicon pixel size and Csl(TI) thickness were the most important parameters which determine the resolution of the imager. By use of our simulation results we could provide proper combinations of Csl(TI) thicknesses and pixels sizes for optimum sensitivity and resolution.
Background: A nondestructive test is commonly used to inspect the surface defects and internal structure of an object without any physical damage. X-rays generated from an electron accelerator or a tube are one of the methods used for nondestructive testing. The high penetration of X-rays through materials with low atomic numbers makes it difficult to discriminate between these materials using X-ray imaging. The interaction characteristics of neutrons with materials can supplement the limitations of X-ray imaging in material discrimination. Materials and Methods: The radiation image acquisition process for air-cargo security inspection equipment using X-rays and neutrons was simulated using a GEometry ANd Tracking (Geant4) simulation toolkit. Radiation images of phantoms composed of 13 materials were obtained, and the R-value, representing the attenuation ratio of neutrons and gamma rays in a material, was calculated from these images. Results and Discussion: The R-values were calculated from the simulated X-ray and neutron images for each phantom and compared with those obtained in the experiments. The R-values obtained from the experiments were higher than those obtained from the simulations. The difference can be due to the following two causes. The first reason is that there are various facilities or equipment in the experimental environment that scatter neutrons, unlike the simulation. The other is the difference in the neutron signal processing. In the simulation, the neutron signal is the sum of the number of neutrons entering the detector. However, in the experiment, the neutron signal was obtained by superimposing the intensities of the neutron signals. Neutron detectors also detect gamma rays, and the neutron signal cannot be clearly distinguished in the process of separating the two types of radiation. Despite these differences, the two results showed similar trends and the viability of using simulation-based radiation images, particularly in the field of security screening. With further research, the simulation-based radiation images can replace ones from experiments and be used in the related fields. Conclusion: The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute has developed air-cargo security inspection equipment using neutrons and X-rays. Using this equipment, radiation images and R-values for various materials were obtained. The equipment was reconstructed, and the R-values were obtained for 13 materials using the Geant4 simulation toolkit. The R-values calculated by experiment and simulation show similar trends. Therefore, we confirmed the feasibility of using the simulation-based radiation image.
In this work, we investigated the recently proposed phase-contrast x-ray imaging (PCXI) technique, the so-called single grid-based PCXI, which has great simplicity and minimal requirements on the setup alignment. It allows for imaging of smaller features and variations in the examined sample than conventional attenuation-based x-ray imaging with lower x-ray dose. We performed a systematic simulation using a simulation platform developed by us to investigate the image characteristics. We also performed a preliminary PCXI experiment using an established a table-top setup to demonstrate the performance of the simulation platform. The system consists of an x-ray tube ($50kV_p$, 5 mAs), a focused-linear grid (200-lines/inch), and a flat-panel detector ($48-{\mu}m$ pixel size). According to our results, the simulated contrast of phase images was much enhanced, compared to that of the absorption images. The scattering length scale estimated for a given simulation condition was about 117 nm. It was very similar, at least qualitatively, to the experimental contrast, which demonstrates the performance of the simulation platform. We also found that the level of the phase gradient of oriented structures strongly depended on the orientation of the structure relative to that of linear grids.

As the circuit density of VLSI grows and its performance improves, delay fault testing of VLSI becomes very important. Delay faults in a circuit can be categorized into two classes, gate delay faults and path delay faults. This paper proposed two methods in dynamic memory usage in the path delay fault simulation. The first method is similar to that used in concurrent fault simulation for stuck-at faults and the second method reduces dynamic memory usage by not inserting a fault descriptor into the fault list when its value is X. The second method, called Implicit-X method, showed superior performance in both dynamic memory usage and simulation time than the first method, called Concurrent-Simulation-Like method.

In this paper, a simulation system based on X-Plane and MATLAB/Simulink for multiple UAVs is presented. For the conceptual design of this proposed system, a hierarchical system architecture for multiple UAVs is presented. This architecture has object-oriented data structure which consists of three objects (UAV status, mission and task, and environment) and a hierarchy consisting of four layers (decision making layer, task assignment layer, path and motion planning layer, and collision avoidance layer) is also proposed. In addition, this paper shows a implementation of simulation system based on the proposed system architecture using X-Plane and MATLAB/Simulink. The result of simulation from the developed system in this paper validate capability of application for multiple UAVs in real environment.
