Ordering is performed to reduce the amount of fill-ins of the Cholesky factor of a symmetric positive definite matrix. This paper proposes a new ordering algorithm that reduces the fill-ins of the Cholesky factor iteratively by elimination tree rotations and clique separators. Elimination tree rotations have been used mainly to reorder the rows of the permuted matrix for the efficiency of storage space management or parallel processing, etc. In the proposed algorithm, however, they are repeatedly performed to reduce the fill-ins of the Cholesky factor. In addition, we presents a simple method for finding a minimal node separator between arbitrary two nodes of a chordal graph. The proposed reordering procedure using clique separators enables us to obtain another order of rows of which the number of till-ins decreases strictly.
In Bayesian model selection or testing problems, one cannot utilize standard or default noninformative priors, since these priors are typically improper and are defined only up to arbitrary constants. The resulting Bayes factors are not well defined. A recently proposed model selection criterion, the intrinsic Bayes factor overcomes such problems by using a part of the sample as a training sample to get a proper posterior and then use the posterior as the prior for the remaining observations to compute the Bayes factor. Surprisingly, such Bayes factor can also be computed directly from the full sample by some proper priors, namely intrinsic priors. The present paper explains how to derive intrinsic priors for simple tree ordered exponential means. Some numerical results are also provided to support theoretical results and compare with classical methods.
This paper introduces an event modeling and simulation system using behavior trees. The system aims to overcome the limitations of existing fixed, simple scenario-based training content, and to extend the behavior of objects to enable various experience deployments. To achieve this goal, we made specific tasks of behavior trees can change according to users' reaction and developed an adaptive simulation module that can analyze and execute behavior trees that changes at runtime. In order to validate our approach, we applied the adaptive behavior tree simulation to the scenarios in our virtual reality simulation-based fire training system we have been developing and demonstrated the implementation results.

As main memory get cheaper, it becomes increasingly affordable to load entire index of DBMS and to access the index. Since speed gap between CPU and main memory is growing bigger, many researches to reduce a cost of main memory access are under the progress. As one of those, cache conscious trees can reduce the cost of main memory access. Since cache conscious trees reduce the number of cache miss by compressing data in node, cache conscious trees can reduce the cost of main memory. Existing cache conscious trees use only fixed one compression technique without consideration of properties of data in node. First, this paper proposes the DC-tree that uses various compression techniques and change data layout in a node according to properties of data in order to reduce cache miss. Second, this paper proposes the level of compression locality that describes properties of data in node by formula. Third, this paper proposes Forced Partial Decomposition (FPD) that reduces the nutter of cache miss. DC-trees outperform 1.7X than B+-tree, 1.5X than simple prefix B+-tree, and 1.3X than pkB-tree, in terms of the number of cache misses. Since proposed DC-trees can be adopted in commercial main memory database system, we believe that DC-trees are practical result.
This survey was estimated under the ratio estimate such as single class method, simple random sampling method, compound ratio sampling method, separate ratio sampling method and average tree sampling method artificial forest pitch pine volume. The following results were realized by the ratio estimates. At the above table simple random sampling method and compound ratio sampling method are the only ones which is included the actual stand volume in the ratio estimatedstand volume. It is thought that the sampling was in a such good result was because of stand structual stands were simple forest. The most simple measurement and calcuation on the stand volume estimates, in order, would be (1) single class method, (2) simple random sampling method (3) average tree method (4) separate ratio sampling method and compound ratio sampling method, and at the planted evenaged forest the method has realized the best results in obtaining good accuracy and the measure stand volume with least time, expenses and labor in considerably.
The task of classification permeates all walks of life, from business and economics to science and public policy. In this context, nonlinear techniques from artificial intelligence have often proven to be more effective than the methods of classical statistics. The objective of knowledge discovery and data mining is to support decision making through the effective use of information. The automated approach to knowledge discovery is especially useful when dealing with large data sets or complex relationships. For many applications, automated software may find subtle patterns which escape the notice of manual analysis, or whose complexity exceeds the cognitive capabilities of humans. This paper explores the utility of a collaborative learning approach involving integrated models in the preprocessing and postprocessing stages. For instance, a genetic algorithm effects feature-weight optimization in a preprocessing module. Moreover, an inductive tree, artificial neural network (ANN), and k-nearest neighbor (kNN) techniques serve as postprocessing modules. More specifically, the postprocessors act as second0order classifiers which determine the best first-order classifier on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the second-order models, a voting scheme is investigated as a simple, but efficient, postprocessing model. The first-order models consist of statistical and machine learning models such as logistic regression (logit), multivariate discriminant analysis (MDA), ANN, and kNN. The genetic algorithm, inductive decision tree, and voting scheme act as kernel modules for collaborative learning. These ideas are explored against the background of a practical application relating to financial fraud management which exemplifies a binary classification problem.

The movement of continuously changing positions should be stored and indexed for querying current and past positions. A simple extension of the original R-tree to add time as another dimension, called 3D R-tree, does not handle current position queries and does not address the problem of low space utilization due to high overlap of index nodes. In this paper, 1 propose the dynamic splitting policy for improving the 3D R-tree in order to improve space utilization of split nodes. 1 also extend the original 3D R-tree by introducing a new tagged index structure for being able to query the current and past positions of moving objects. 1 found out that my extension of the original R-tree, called the tagged dynamic 3DR-tree, outperforms both the 3D R-tree and 75-tree when querying current and past position.
The objective of this paper is to suggest a new quantification method for multi-unit probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) that removes the overestimation error caused by the existing delete-term approximation (DTA) based quantification method. So far, for the actual plant PSA model quantification, a fault tree with negates have been solved by the DTA method. It is well known that the DTA method induces overestimated core damage frequency (CDF) of nuclear power plant (NPP). If a PSA fault tree has negates and non-rare events, the overestimation in CDF drastically increases. Since multi-unit seismic PSA model has plant level negates and many non-rare events in the fault tree, it should be very carefully quantified in order to avoid CDF overestimation. Multi-unit PSA fault tree has normal gates and negates that represent each NPP status. The NPP status means core damage or non-core damage state of individual NPPs. The non-core damage state of a NPP is modeled in the fault tree by using a negate (a NOT gate). Authors reviewed and compared (1) quantification methods that generate exact or approximate Boolean solutions from a fault tree, (2) DTA method generating approximate Boolean solution by solving negates in a fault tree, and (3) probability calculation methods from the Boolean solutions generated by exact quantification methods or DTA method. Based on the review and comparison, a new intersection removal by probability (IRBP) method is suggested in this study for the multi-unit PSA. If the IRBP method is adopted, multi-unit PSA fault tree can be quantified without the overestimation error that is caused by the direct application of DTA method. That is, the extremely overestimated CDF can be avoided and accurate CDF can be calculated by using the IRBP method. The accuracy of the IRBP method was validated by simple multi-unit PSA models. The necessity of the IRBP method was demonstrated by the actual plant multi-unit seismic PSA models.
The research assesses the impact of a digital procurement (e-purjee) system for sugarcane growers in Bangladesh. The system itself is simple, transmitting purchase orders to local farmers via SMS text notification. It replaces a traditional paper-based system fraught with low reliability and delivery delays. Applying expected value theory, and using decision tree representations to depict growers' decision-making complexity in an information-asymmetric environment, we compute outcomes for the strategies and sub-strategies of ICT vs. traditional paper-based order management from the sugarcane growers' perspective. The study results show that the digital procurement system outperforms the paper-based system by tangibly reducing growers' economic losses. The digital system also appears to benefit growers non-monetarily, because of reduced uncertainty and a higher level of perceived fairness. Sugarcane growers appear to value the non-monetary benefits even higher than the economic advantages of the e-purjee system.
The primary purpose of this study was to investigate a robust search methodology that could be used in full-text information retrieval systems. A robust search methodology is one that can be easily used by a variety of users (particularly naive users) and it will give them comparable search performance regardless of their different expertise or interests In order to develop a possibly robust search methodology, a fully functional prototype of a fuzzy knowledge based information retrieval system was developed. Also, an experiment that used this prototype information retreival system was designed to investigate the performance of that search methodology over a small exploratory sample of user queries To probe the relatonships between the possibly robust search performance and the query organization using fuzzy inference logic, the search performance of a shallow query structure was analyzes. Consequently the following several noteworthy findings were obtained: 1) the hierachical(tree type) query structure might be a better query organization than the linear type query structure 2) comparing with the complex tree query structure, the simple tree query structure that has at most three levels of query might provide better search performance 3) the fuzzy search methodology that employs a proper levels of cut-off value might provide more efficient search performance than the boolean search methodology. Even though findings could not be statistically verified because the experiments were done using a single replication, it is worth noting however, that the research findings provided valuable information for developing a possibly robust search methodology in full-text information retrieval.
