This paper presents a similarity search method based on mixed norm for enhancing self-example-based single image super-resolution. In order to incorporate the local statistical characteristics of the patches into the super-resolution image reconstruction, we propose a method to determine the order of the norm according to the patch inclination and use it as a similarity search between patches. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed similarity search method has the capability to improve the performance of existing search method.

This paper proposes a method for identification of harmful video images based on the degree of harmfulness in the video content. To extract harmful candidate frames from the video effectively, we used a video color extraction method applying a projection map. The procedure for identifying the harmful video has five steps, first, extract the I-frames from the video and map them onto projection map. Next, calculate the similarity and select the potentially harmful, then identify the harmful images by comparing the similarity measurement value. The method estimates similarity between the extracted frames and normative images using the critical value of the projection map. Based on our experimental test, we propose how the harmful candidate frames are extracted and compared with normative images. The various experimental data proved that the image identification method based on the 2-dimensional projection map is superior to using the color histogram technique in harmful image detection performance.
Video Data includes moving objects which change spatial positions as time goes by. In this paper, we propose a new modeling method for a moving object contained in the video data. In order to effectively retrieve moving objects, the proposed modeling method represents the spatial position and the size of a moving object. It also represents the visual features and the trajectory by considering direction, distance and speed or moving objects as time goes by. Therefore, It allows various types of retrieval such as visual feature based similarity retrieval, distance based similarity retrieval and trajectory based similarity retrieval and their mixed type of weighted retrieval.

Recommender Systems (RecSys) have a major role in e-commerce for recommending products, which they may like for every user and thus improve their business aspects. Although many types of RecSyss are there in the research field, the state of the art RecSys has focused on finding the user similarity based on sequence (e.g. purchase history, movie-watching history) analyzing and prediction techniques like Recurrent Neural Network in Deep learning. That is RecSys has considered as a sequence prediction problem. However, evaluation of similarities among the customers is challenging while considering temporal aspects, context and multi-component ratings of the item-records in the customer sequences. For addressing this issue, we are proposing a Deep Learning based model which learns customer similarity directly from the sequence to sequence similarity as well as item to item similarity by considering all features of the item, contexts, and rating components using Dynamic Temporal Warping(DTW) distance measure for dynamic temporal matching and 2D-GRU (Two Dimensional-Gated Recurrent Unit) architecture. This will overcome the limitation of non-linearity in the time dimension while measuring the similarity, and the find patterns more accurately and speedily from temporal and spatial contexts. Experiment on the real world movie data set LDOS-CoMoDa demonstrates the efficacy and promising utility of the proposed personalized RecSys architecture.
In this paper, we propose a similarity search algorithm for image databases. One of the central problems regarding content-based image retrieval (CBIR) is the semantic gap between the low-level features computed automatically from images and the human interpretation of image content. Many search algorithms used in CBIR have used the Minkowski metric (or $L_p$-norm) to measure similarity between image pairs. However those functions cannot adequately capture the aspects of the characteristics of the human visual system as well as the nonlinear relationships in contextual information. Our new search algorithm tackles this problem by employing new similarity measures and ranking strategies that reflect the nonlinearity of human perception and contextual information. Our search algorithm yields superior experimental results on a real handwritten digit image database and demonstrates its effectiveness.

CAD databases are the core element to the management of product information. A key to the successful use of the databases is a rational method of query to and retrieval from the databases. Although it is parts geometry that users eager to retrieve from the CAD databases, no system yet supports geometry-based query. This paper aims at developing a new method of assessing geometric similarity which can serve as the basis of geometric query for CAD database. The proposed method uses ASVP (Alternating Sums of Volumes with Partitioning) decomposition that is a volumetric representation of a part obtained from its boundary representation. A measure of geometric similarity between two solid models is defined on their ASVP tree representations. The measure can take into account overall shapes of parte, shapes of features and their locations. Several properties that a similarity measure needs to satisfy are discussed. The geometric query developed in this paper can be used in a wide range of applications using CAD databases, which include similarity-based design retrieval, variant process planning, and components selection from part library. An experiment has been carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method, and the results are presented.
Many real-world applications information are organized and represented with graph structure which is often used for representing various ubiquitous networks, such as World Wide Web, social networks, and protein-protein interactive networks. In particular, similarity evaluation between graphs is a challenging issue in many fields such as graph searching, pattern discovery, neuroscience, chemical compounds exploration and so forth. There exist some algorithms which are based on vertices or edges properties, are proposed for addressing this issue. However, these algorithms do not take both vertices and edges similarities into account. Towards this end, this paper pioneers a novel approach for similarity evaluation between graphs based on formal concept analysis. The feature of this approach is able to characterize the relationships between nodes and further reveal the similarity between graphs. Therefore, the highlight of our approach is to take vertices and edges into account simultaneously. The proposed algorithm is evaluated using a case study for validating the effectiveness of the proposed approach on detecting and measuring the similarity between graphs.

A path prediction method using lifelog requires a large amount of training data for accurate path prediction, and the path prediction performance is degraded when the training data is insufficient. The lack of training data can be solved using data of other users having similar user movement patterns. Therefore, this paper proposes a path prediction algorithm based on user similarity. The proposed algorithm learns the path in a triple grid pattern and measures the similarity between users using the cosine similarity technique. Then, it predicts the path with applying measured similarity to the learned model. For the evaluation, we measure and compare the path prediction accuracy of proposed method with the existing algorithms. As a result, the proposed method has 66.6% accuracy, and it is evaluated that its accuracy is 1.8% higher than other methods.

Different from the field of electro-optical(EO) image analysis, there has been less interest in similarity metrics between synthetic aperture radar(SAR) target images. A reliable and objective similarity analysis for SAR target images is expected to enable the verification of the SAR measurement process or provide the guidelines of target CAD modeling that can be used for simulating realistic SAR target images. For this purpose, this paper presents a similarity analysis method based on the siamese network that quantifies the subjective assessment through the distance learning of similar and dissimilar SAR target image pairs. The proposed method is applied to MSTAR SAR target images of slightly different depression angles and the resultant metrics are compared and analyzed with qualitative evaluation. Since the image similarity is somewhat related to recognition performance, the capacity of the proposed method for target recognition is further checked experimentally with the confusion matrix.

In order to improve the reliability of cost estimation results using CBR, there has been a continuous issue on similarity measurement to accurately compute the distance among attributes and cases to retrieve the most similar singular or plural cases. However, these existing similarity measures have limitations in taking the covariance among attributes into consideration and reflecting the effects of covariance in computation of distances among attributes. To deal with this challenging issue, this research examines the weighted Mahalanobis distance based similarity measure applied to CBR cost estimation and carries out the comparative study on the existing distance measurement methods of CBR. To validate the suggest CBR cost model, leave-one-out cross validation (LOOCV) using two different sets of simulation data are carried out. Consequently, this research is expected to provide an analysis of covariance effects in similarity measurement and a basis for further research on the fundamentals of case retrieval.
