  • Magnetic Properties of dust cores made of mixtures of atomized pure iron powder and pure alumina powder has been investigated in the temperature range from 673 to 1073K. The effect of annealing on coercivity has been positive effect up to 973K and thus coercivity is gradually reduced form 280A/m (as-compressed) to 160A/m (973K). However, dust cores annealed at 1073K displayed a 15% increasing of coercivity by annealing at 973K. Hysteresis loss shows a tendency similar to coercivity. Microstructure observation of specimens shows grain refinement by recrystallization in the temperature range from 773 to 1073K.

  • With the development of micro-technology, the demand for micro actuator is increasing. But, it is difficult to achieve high resolution and long travel range simultaneously with the conventional actuators. So, the noncontact surface actuator was proposed. This actuator can realize high dynamic range and the planar motion without complex cross-axis linear slides. This paper describes a magnetically suspended linear actuator for developing a non-contact surface actuator. The operating principle and the structure of the proposed linear actuator are similar to switched reluctance motor, but the proposed linear actuator utilizes normal force and propulsion force simultaneously. With this characteristic, the system can be simpler than other non-contact surface actuator.

  • The main scale of linear scale greatly affects on the precision of displacement measurement. Especially when needing the long range measurement, the length of main scale should be increased accordingly. In this paper, we propose a linear scale that uses laser interference pattern as main scale for long range measurement. The linear scale is similar to Michelson interferometer excepting that the reference mirror is tilted so as to obtain interference fringe pattern and a grating panel is attached on a quadratic photo diodes. Four kinds of grating having phase differences of 0, $\pi$ /4, $\pi$ /2, 3 $\pi$ /4 are arranged on the panel. The experimental results show that signals of - quadratic photo diode, A, B,$\overline{A}$ and $\overline{B}$ are cosine wavelike and successive signals have phase difference of $\pi$/4 each other. So the proposed method can achieve improved measurement resolution.

  • Impatiens cardamomensis S. H. Cho, C. K. Lim & H. Won, a new species of the family Balsaminaceae from the Cardamom Mountain Range in southwestern Cambodia, is described and illustrated. The species is similar to I. noei from Thailand in that it possesses solitary flowers, fusiform capsules, and compressed seeds, but is readily distinguished by its ovate to widely ovate leaves, shorter petioles, widely elliptic dorsal petals and smaller seeds.

  • The stretching vibration of OH of ice Ih is studied by Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics in regarding the effect of mixed H/D contamination while the vibrational spectrum is considered by velocity-velocity autocorrelations of the sampled ensemble. When hydrogen atoms are immersed randomly into the deuterated ice, a typical vibrational frequency of OH stretching mode is observed to be similar to that from the pure $H_2O$ ice. When focusing on the correlation of isolated neighboring OH stretching, a narrower and blue shifted peak is observed at the high frequency range as a result of the screening from the complex many body correlations by $D_2O$ environment. It is also specifically related to the symmetric intermolecular correlations between neighboring OH stretching modes. More enhanced high frequency range can be explained by the expansion of such two body correlations to collective many body correlations among all possible OH stretching modes. This contribution becomes important when it involves in chemical interactions via excitation of such vibrational states.

  • A non-translating, long duration thunderstorm downburst has been simulated experimentally and numerically by modelling a spatially stationary steady flow impinging air jet. Velocity profiles were shown to compare well with an upper-bound of velocity measurements reported for full-scale microbursts. Velocity speed-up over a range of topographic features in simulated downburst flow was also tested with comparisons made to previous work in a similar flow, and also boundary layer wind tunnel experiments. It was found that the amplification measured above the crest of topographic features in simulated downburst flow was up to 35% less than that observed in boundary layer flow for all shapes tested. From the computational standpoint we conclude that the Shear Stress Transport (SST) model performs the best from amongst a range of eddy-viscosity and second moment closures tested for modelling the impinging jet flow.

  • In this paper, we propose a design method of the millimeter-wave(W-Band) waveguide cavity harmonic voltage controlled oscillator(VCO) using a Gunn diode for the armor sensor. Using the 3-dimensional simulation tool(Ansoft $HFSS^{TM}$), we were able to find the impedance matching point between waveguide and Gunn diode and estimate the oscillation frequency. A varactor diode is used for the frequency tuning, and we find out the equation for the calculation of the tunable frequency range. The designed VCO shows good performances; 17dBm output power at 94GHz center frequency, 520MHz frequency tuning range similar to the estimated value(480MHz).

  • Spherically expanding flames are used to measure flame speeds, which are derived the corresponding laminar flame speeds at zero stretch. Dimethyl Ether-Air mixtures at high pressure are studied over an extensive range of equivalence ratios. The classical shadowgraph technique is used to detect the reaction zone. In analytical methodology the optimization process using least mean squares is performed to extract the laminar flame speeds. It is seen that the laminar flame speed of DME-Air mixture with the increase of pressure decreases rapidly showing a similar trend to other hydrocarbon fuels. At pressure of 2 and 10 atm the experimental data from the present study agree well with results reported in the literature. Especially the laminar flame speeds at 2 atm are in good agreement with those calculated in numerical work over the full stoichiometric range. At elevated pressure of 12 atm the measured data are slightly slower at fuel lean condition and show close agreement at fuel rich condition when compared with the numerical results.

  • Apparent MWDs of DOM in natural waters and swine wastewaters were determined through membrane ultrafiltration. The nominal MWCOs of ultrafiltration membranes by the manufacturer were confirmed to be similar with those obtained from the ultrafiltration procedures employed in this study using six MW standard compounds. Natural waters showed a wide range of MWOs, but 62.4~87.5% were in the range of MW<10K. High MW fractions were preferentially removed through water treatment processes. Swine wastewater showed two major ranges of MWDs, 49.0% in <1K and 36% in >50k while anaerobically treated swine wastewaters showed 17.5~18.0% in <1K and 53.0~58.8% in <50K. The overall DOM was reduced during anaerobic treatment by 76.8~80.0% as COD; however. the percentage of low MW fractions decreased and that of the high MW fractions increased.

  • This study is performed to evalute experimentally the nondestructive properties on the concrete that is treated with crushed oyster shell powder of 0.15m or smaller in diameter. The ultrsonic pulse velocity of crushed oyster shell concrete(COSC) is in the range of 4.110-4.267m/s, and the dynamic modulus of elasticity of COSC range from 288$\times$10$^3$ to 318 $\times$10$^3$kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The ultrasonic pulse velocity and dynamic modulus of elasticity are similar to those of normal portland cement concrete. The highest ultrasonic pulse velocity and dynamic modulus of COSC are measured at the 2.5% addition rate by weight of crushed oyster shell powder. The acid-resistance in increased of the content of crushed oyster shell powder. The acid-resistance of COSC with 15% addition rate by weight of crushed oyster shell power is 1.6 times greater than that of normal portland cement concrete. It is concluded that the addition of crushed oyster shell powder to normal portland cement concrete contributed to improve the nondestructive properties of concrete.
