  • Searching for gene products which have similar biological functions are crucial for bioinformatics. Modern day biological databases provide the functional description of gene products using Gene Ontology(GO). In this paper, we propose a technique for semantic similarity search for gene products using the GO annotation information. For this purpose, an information-theoretic measure for semantic similarity between gene products is defined. And an algorithm for semantic similarity search using this measure is proposed. We adapt Fagin's Threshold Algorithm to process the semantic similarity query as follows. First, we redefine the threshold for our measure. This is because our similarity function is not monotonic. Then cluster-skipping and the access ordering of the inverted index lists are proposed to reduce the number of disk accesses. Experiments with real GO and annotation data show that GORank is efficient and scalable.

  • This research presents an in-depth analysis of location planning of the solar-hydrogen power plants for electricity production in different cities situated in Kerman province of Iran. Ten cities were analyzed in order to select the most suitable location for the construction of a solar-hydrogen power plant utilizing photovoltaic panels. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) methodology was applied to prioritize cities for installing the solar-hydrogen power plant so that one candidate location was selected for each city. Different criteria including population, distance to main road, flood risk, wind speed, sunshine hours, air temperature, humidity, horizontal solar irradiation, dust, and land costare used for the analysis. From the analysis, it is found that among the candidates' cities, the site of Lalezar is ranked as the first priority for the solar-hydrogen system development. A measure of validity is obtained when results of the DEA method are compared with the results of the technique for ordering preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). Applying TOPSIS model, it was found that city of Lalezar ranked first, and Rafsanjan gained last priority for installing the solar-hydrogen power plants. Cities of Baft, Sirjan, Kerman, Shahrbabak, Kahnouj, Shahdad, Bam, and Jiroft ranked second to ninth, respectively. The validity of the DEA model is compared with the results of TOPSIS and it is demonstrated that the two methods produced similar results. The solar-hydrogen power plant is considered for installation in the city of Lalezar. It is demonstrated that installation of the proposed solar-hydrogen system in Lalezar can lead to yearly yield of 129 ton-H2 which covers 4.3% of total annual energy demands of the city.

  • A video is a vivid medium similar to human's visual-linguistic experiences, since it can inculcate a sequence of situations, actions or dialogues that can be told as a story. In this study, we propose story learning/regeneration frameworks from videos with successive event order supervision for contextual coherence. The supervision induces each episode to have a form of trajectory in the latent space, which constructs a composite representation of ordering and semantics. In this study, we incorporated the use of kids videos as a training data. Some of the advantages associated with the kids videos include omnibus style, simple/explicit storyline in short, chronological narrative order, and relatively limited number of characters and spatial environments. We build the encoder-decoder structure with successive event order embedding, and train bi-directional LSTMs as sequence models considering multi-step sequence prediction. Using a series of approximately 200 episodes of kids videos named 'Pororo the Little Penguin', we give empirical results for story regeneration tasks and SEOE. In addition, each episode shows a trajectory-like shape on the latent space of the model, which gives the geometric information for the sequence models.

  • The World Economic Forum and the Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy have selected big data as one of the top 10 in core information technology. The key of big data is to analyze effectively the properties that do have data. Clustering analysis method of big data techniques is a method of assigning a set of objects into the clusters so that the objects in the same cluster are more similar to each other clusters. Similarity measures being used in the cluster analysis may be classified into various types depending on the nature of the data. In this paper, we studied upper and lower bounds for binary similarity measures with negative matches such as Russel and Rao measure, simple matching measure by Sokal and Michener, Rogers and Tanimoto measure, Sokal and Sneath measure, Hamann measure, and Baroni-Urbani and Buser mesures I, II. And the comparative studies with these measures were shown by real data and simulated experiment.

  • Since a variety of sound occur in same place and similar sound occurs in other places, the performance of acoustic scene classification is not guaranteed in case of insufficient training data. A Bag of Words (BOW) based histogram feature is foreseen as a method to overcome the problem. However, since the histogram features is made by using a feature distribution, the ordering of sequence of features is ignored. A temporal information such as periodicity and stationarity are also important for acoustic scene classification. In this paper, temporal features about a periodicity and a stationarity are extracted by using a recurrent quantification analysis. In the experiment, performance of the proposed method is shown better than other baseline methods.

  • Bacterial strain No. P08 isolated from wastewater at the Cheongju industrial complex was found to be capable of degrading 4-chlorobenzoate under aerobic condition. P08 was identified as Comamonas sp. from its cellular fatty acid composition and 16S rDNA sequence. The fcb genes, responsible for the hydrolytic dechlorination of 4-chlorobenzoate, were cloned from the plasmid pJJl of Comamonas sp. P08. The fcb gene cluster of comamonas sp. PO8 was organized in the order fcbB-fcbA-fcbTl-fcbT2-fcbT3-fcbC. This organization of the fcb genes was very similar to that of the fcb genes carried on the chromosomal DNA of pseudomonas sp. DJ-12. However, it differed from the fcbA-fcbB -fcbC ordering of Arthrobacter sp. SU. The nucleotide sequences of the fcbABC genes of strain P08 showed 98% and 53% identities to those of Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12 and Arthrobacter sp. SU, respectively. This suggests that the fcb genes might have been derived from Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12 to form plasmid pJSl in Comamonas sp. P08, or that the fcb genes in strain DJ-12 were transposed from Comamonas sp. P08 plasmid.

  • CHAM is designed with an emphasis on encryption speed, considering that in the ISO/IEC standard block cipher operation mode, encryption functions are used more often than decryption functions. In the superscalar architecture of modern general-purpose processors, different ordering of operations can lead to different processing speeds, even if the computation configuration is the same. In this paper, we analyze the implementation efficiency and security of CHAM-like structures, which rearrange the order of operations in the ARX-based block cipher CHAM, for single-block and parallel implementations in a general-purpose processor environment. The proposed structures are at least 9.3% and at most 56.4%efficient in terms of encryption speed. The security analysis evaluates the resistance of the CHAM-like structures to differential and linear attacks. In terms of security margin, the difference is 3.4% for differential attacks and 6.8%for linear attacks, indicating that the security strength is similar compared to the efficiency difference. These results can be utilized in the design of ARX-based block ciphers.

  • This research aims to build a total information system that systematizes existing sporadic information, which may lead to revitalization and efficiency of overseas urban development. To achieve this, this study firstly analyses the current information systems for urban development in foreign countries and information from the private sector. The results show that the information system that operates in the domestic agencies, are less likely to involve the contents related to information sharing, social network building and business process. However, that used in agencies ordering the overseas urban development projects, mostly provides the information of professionals, project participants and their business. Second, this research selects the information to be provided by the integrated information system and proposes a data collection plan. The information, required to push forward urban development in abroad, is classified into seven categories. Third, this study establishes a target model of comprehensive information system and makes suggestions for institutional improvement. For doing this, it categorizes overseas urban development information, links to classified information, organizes the system into three stages to services through informational channels, and then suggests a target model. Furthermore, it proposes institutional improvement to achieve efficiency of information systems through a comprehensive review of the similar cases such as administrative system of architecture(Seumter) and land information system.

  • The purpose of this paper is primarily to introduce a nonparametric statistical tool developed by Baek and Brock to detect a unidirectional causal ordering between two economic variables and apply it to interesting macroeconomic relationships among money, production and prices. It can be applied to any other causal structure, for instance, defense spending and economic performance, stock market index and market interest rates etc. A key building block of the test for nonlinear Granger causality used in this paper is the correlation. The main emphasis is put on nonlinear causal structure rather than a linear one because the conventional F-test provides high power against the linear causal relationship. Based on asymptotic normality of our test statistic, the nonlinear causality test is finally derived. Size of the test is reported for some parameters. When it is applied to a money, production and prices model, some evidences of nonlinear causality are found by the corrected size of the test. For instance, nonlinear causal relationships between production and prices are demonstrated in both directions, however, these results were ignored by the conventional F-test. A similar results between money and prices are obtained at high lag variables.
