Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Cell Extracts of Anabaena doliolum and Screening of Its Antibacterial and Antitumor Activity

  • In the present work, we describe a simple, cheap, and unexplored method for "green" synthesis of silver nanoparticles using cell extracts of the cyanobacterium Anabaena doliolum. An attempt was also made to test the antimicrobial and antitumor activities of the synthesized nanoparticles. Analytical techniques, namely UV-vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and TEM-selected area electron diffraction, were used to elucidate the formation and characterization of silver-cyanobacterial nanoparticles (Ag-CNPs). Results showed that the original color of the cell extract changed from reddish blue to dark brown after addition of silver nitrate solution (1 mM) within 1 h, suggesting the synthesis of Ag-CNPs. That the formation Ag-CNPs indeed occurred was also evident from the spectroscopic analysis of the reaction mixture, wherein a prominent peak at 420 nm was noted. TEM images revealed well-dispersed, spherical Ag-CNPs with a particle size in the range of 10-50 nm. The X-ray diffraction spectrum suggested a crystalline nature of the Ag-CNPs. FTIR analysis indicated the utilization of a hydroxyl (-OH) group in the formation of Ag-CNPs. Ag-CNPs exhibited strong antibacterial activity against three multidrug-resistant bacteria. Additionally, Ag-CNPs strongly affected the survival of Dalton's lymphoma and human carcinoma colo205 cells at a very low concentration. The Ag-CNPs-induced loss of survival of both cell types may be due to the induction of reactive oxygen species generation and DNA fragmentation, resulting in apoptosis. Properties exhibited by the Ag-CNP suggest that it may be used as a potential antibacterial and antitumor agent.

은을 이용한 착색유리 제조에 관한 연구 (Study on Colour Development in Silver Containing Glass)

  • For the manufacture of the silver-yellow glass, silver nitrate was used as a colorant in the base glass of $K_2O$-CaO-$SiO_2$ system. The latter in which the optimum condition was revealed showing beautiful yellow color had been selected among others after the preparatory studies to choose base glass. Other base glass systems considered were $Na_2O$-CaO-$SiO_2$, $R_2O$-PbO-$SiO_2$ and $R_2O$-PbO-BaO-$SiO_2$. The color developed on the specimen in various conditions was examined, using spectorphotometer, in term of the changes in absorbance with wavelength in the visible range. Experimental variables were the amount of the colorant and the additives, reheating temperature and time. The additives such as ZnO, BaO, $B_2O_3$ and $As_2O_3$ were added to increase the coloring action. It was observed that as the amount of silver increased in the base glass the absorbance around $410{\mu}m$ showed the increasing tendency, but the width of absorption curve was wider. Hence, the optimum amount of silver appeared to be 0.11~0.12%. It was found that ZnO was effective additive when present about 0.1%, while $As_2O_3$ ineffective rather retarding the coloration. Borax and $BaCO_3$ were proved effective when contained separately, but appeared ineffective when coexisted. Proper reheating temperature and time was ranged 550~$580^{\circ}C$ and 50~60 minutes. The higher the reheating temperature and the longer the reheating time, the absorbance was increased, while the width of absorption curve was wider. The colored glass prepared in the present experimental condition was found to have good water-resistance for the decorative purpose.

Ag 水溶液으로부터 還元反應에 의한 Ag 微粒子의 製造 硏究 (Preparation of Ag Fine Particles from Aqueous Silver Solution by Reduction Reaction)

  • 국내 폐은 원료로부터 고부가가치 Ag powder를 제조하기 위한 연구의 일환으로써 ascorbic acid를 환원제로 사용한 Ag 미립자 제조실험을 수행하였다. Ag 수용액은 질산은을 10~120 mmole/l의 범위로 용해시켜 사용하였으며, Ag 미립자의 응집방지를 위한 분산제로는 Tamol NN8906 및 PVP를 각각 사용하였다. 환원반응을 통하여 제조한 Ag 미립자는 X-선 회절분석, 입도분석, SEM 및 TEM 분석을 실시하여 morphology 와 평균입도를 측정하였다. ascorbic acid에 의한 수용액중 Ag 이온의 환원반응은 10분 이내에 거의 평형상태에 도달하였으며, 완전한 Ag 이온의 환원을 위해서는 ascorbic acid 첨가량이 이론치의 1.6배가 소요되었다. 생성된 Ag 미립자의 입도분포는 bimodal 혹은 trimodal의 분포곡선을 보였으며, Ag 미립자의 평균입도는 분산제 종류 및 첨가량과 수용액 중 초기 Ag 농도에 따라 달라지는 것으로 나타났다.

Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles to the microbiological corrosion deterrence of oil and gas pipelines buried in the soil

  • Biological corrosion, a crucial aspect of metal degradation, has received limited attention despite its significance. It involves the deterioration of metals due to corrosion processes influenced by living organisms, including bacteria. Soil represents a substantial threat to pipeline corrosion as it contains chemical and microbial factors that cause severe damage to water, oil, and gas transmission projects. To combat fouling and corrosion, corrosion inhibitors are commonly used; however, their production often involves expensive and hazardous chemicals. Consequently, researchers are exploring natural and eco-friendly alternatives, specifically nano-sized products, as potent corrosion inhibitors. This study aims to environmentally synthesize silver nanoparticles using an extract from Lagoecia cuminoides L and evaluate their effectiveness in preventing biological corrosion of buried pipes in soil. The optimal experimental conditions were determined as follows: a volume of 4 ml for the extract, a volume of 4 ml for silver nitrate (AgNO3), pH 9, a duration of 60 minutes, and a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius. Analysis using transmission electron microscopy confirmed the formation of nanoparticles with an average size of approximately 28 nm, while X-ray diffraction patterns exhibited suitable peak intensities. By employing the Scherer equation, the average particle size was estimated to be around 30 nm. Furthermore, antibacterial studies revealed the potent antibacterial activity of the synthesized silver nanoparticles against both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. This property effectively mitigates the biological corrosion caused by bacteria in steel pipes buried in soil.

  • Organophosphorous compounds can be reduced by zinc metal in acidic solution after alkaline hydrolysis. Although phosphates and phosphonates did not evolve any gas, dithioates did evolve hydrogen sulfide and phosphine, thionates and thiolates did evolve only hydrogen sulfide. The evolved gases were qualitatively detected by means of lead acetate and silver nitrate or mercuric bromide papers and determined by spectrophotometrically. The reduction mechanism and analytical method of dithioates were proposed.

New Records of Three Dysteriids (Ciliophora: Pyllopharyngea) from Korea

  • We verified three ciliates - Dysteria brasiliensis Faria et al., 1922, Dysteria lanceolata ${Clapar\grave{e}ede}$ and Lachmann, 1859, and Dysteria ovalis (Gourret and Roeser, 1886) Kahl, 1931 - as previously unrecorded species in Korea. These three ciliates were collected from Incheon Harbor and Geojin Harbor in Korea. We describe the three species based on live observations, protargolimpregnated specimens, and silver nitrate-impregnated specimens.

Record of two soil ciliates (Ciliophora: Colpodea: Colpoda) from Korea

  • We collected two unrecorded Colpoda species - C. cucullus $M\ddot{u}ller$, 1773 and C. inflata (Stokes, 1885) Kahl, 1931 from Jeju-do Province (Sarabong Park, $33^{\circ}31^{\prime}N$ $126^{\circ}32^{\prime}E$) in November, 2014. We described these species based on observations of live and impregnated (protargol and silver nitrate impregnation) specimens.

  • 탄소나노튜브(CNT)를 이용한 전도성 투명 박막은 기존의 산화인듐주석(ITO)보다 가공 공정이 매우 간단하고 제조비용이 저렴하여 다양한 제품에 적용시킬 수 있고, 다양한 기판에 형성시킬 수 있어 새로운 유형의 제품을 만들 수 있는 가능성이 있다. 본 연구에서는 CNT를 이용하여 만든 투명 박막의 전도특성을 높이기 위하여 기존의 CNT 박막에 금속 이온간의 산화-환원 반응을 이용하여 Tin(II) chloride와 silver nitrate로 Ag seed를 형성시켜 투명 전도막 효율 변화를 측정하였다.

한국산 개암종실의 중성지질 조성에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Neutral Lipid Components of Korean Hazel Nut)

  • Compositions of neutral lipid of the hazel nut (Corylus heterophylla Fischer var. thumbergii Blume, Betulaceae) produced in Korea were analyzed by thinchrography (Iatrosoan TH-10 type), which was equipped with a flame ionization detector. The neutral lipid components were nearly separated of the basis of their degree of unsaturation by employing the chromatography on silica gel sintered rod impregnated with 12.5% silver nitrate and it was noted that triglyceride was the major lipid components of Korean hazel nut. The triglyceride compositions were trilinolenin 10.63, trilinolein 18.01, triolein 42.24, tripalmitin 17.57 and tristearin 11.55% by thinchrographic analysis.

열순환 후 상아질 접착 계면의 수분 투과성 변화에 대한 정량적 분석 (QUANTITATIVE COMPARISON OF PERMEABILITY IN THE ADHESIVE INTERFACE OF FOUR ADHESIVE SYSTEMS)

  • 본 연구는 현재 시판 되고 있는 여러 개의 상아질 접착제를 임상 술식에서와 같은 방법으로 사용한 다음 열순환 후 접착계면의 변화를 관찰 비교하고자 했다. 발거 한지 한 달 이내인 대구치 28개의 교합면 상아질 표면에 4종의 상아질 접착제 (OptiBond FL [OP], AdheSE [AD], Clearfil SE Bond [CL], Xeno III [XE]) 중 하나를 적용한 뒤 복합 레진 (Premisa, Kerr) 을 1 mm 두께로 올린 후 광중합 하였다. $4^{\circ}C$ 증류수에서 6일간 보관한 뒤, 치아의 정중선으로부터 수직으로 절단 하여 그 중 절반의 치아에서 2 mm 두께의 시편을 얻은 다음 남은 반쪽의 치아는 10,000회의 열순환을 가한 뒤 ($5^{\circ}-55^{\circ}$, 침지 시간 25초, 대기 시간 5초) 같은 방법으로 2 mm 두께의 시편을 얻었다. 연마한 시편을 24시간 동안 50% ammoniacal silver nitrate solution에 담근 다음 photo-developing solution에서 8시간 동안 환원시켰다. 계면을 가로지르는 5개의 line상에서 wavelength dispersive spectrometry (WDS) detector를 이용하여 주사전상에 있는 원소들의 중량비를 계산하였다. 또한 열순환 전과 후의 시편에서 얻어진 5개의 silver 측정치를 서로 비교하였다. 열순환 전의 접착제층(adhesive layer)에서는 OP에서 가장 적은 silver의 투과가 관찰되었으며 (p < 0.0001), CL, AD, XE 순으로 투과 량이 증가함을 보였다. 혼성층 (Hybrid layer) 에서는 CL의 투과량이 가장 적었다 (p = 0.0039). 열순환 후에 접착제층과 혼성층에서 silver의 투과량은 증가하지는 않았다. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) 사진을 통하여 각 시편의 접착 계면에서 접착제에 따른 특이적인 silver의 투과상을 관찰할 수 있었다. 전반적으로 OP 와 CL의 접착계면이 열순환 과정 중에도 온전히 유지됨을 볼 수 있었다. 접착 계면에서의 수분 투과 양상은 각 접착제에 따라 다른 형태를 보였으며 열 순환에 의해 유의할 만한 변화를 야기하지는 않았다.
