In 1925, H.J. Joosten was the first in the world to use chemical injection grouts composed of sodium silicate and calcium chloride. This unique development prompted the introduction of other chemical grouting techniques. Among these chemical grouting techniques, sodium silicate based grout has been the most widely used in the world, but it has not been generally considered to be a permanent material. Therefore, studies to improve the weak points of sodium silicate based grout have been conducted, and new applications of grout were recently developed. We also developed the micro fine hybrid silicate grout of suspention type which properties are sepecialized as the high strength and durability, according to the reactant of special sodium silicate grout and the high strength hardener. As the results of this study we could derive the 2 times over high strength of Micro fine hybrid Silicate grouting method(MS method) more than that of the ordinary sodium silicate grout. And also we could confirm that the alkali leakage of micro fine hybrid silicate grout is less than that of ordinary sodium silicate grout. So we could get the high strength and durability of hybrid silicate grout are superior to those of ordinary sodium silicate grout.
Clay/poly(styrene-co-acrylonitrile) copolymer (SAN) hybrids have been prepared by simple meltmixing of two components, SAN and organophilic clays with a twin screw extruder. Effects of intercalant on the dispersibility of silicate layers in clay-dispersed nanocomposite were studied by using five different organophilic clays modified with the intercalants of different chemical structures and different fractions of intercalant. The dispersibility of 10-$\AA$-thick silicate layers of clay in the hybrid was investigated by using an X-ray diffractometer and a transmission electron microscope. It was found that if the fraction of intercalant in the organophilic clay becomes too high, SAN is difficult to intercalate into the inter-gallery of silicate layers in the hybrid prepared at 180$\^{C}$, and thus the hybrid shows poor dispersibility of silicate layers. The flexural modulus of the hybrid increases as the dispersibility of silicate layers in the hybrid increases.
An electrolyte membranes for high temperature/low humidity is a demand for the proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). In this work, we prepared hybrid membranes, which have novel glass content in the hydrophilic and hydrophobic part of sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) (SPAES) by in-situ sol-gel synthesis of various functional silane. The effect of silicate from functional silane content on the proton conductivity, water uptake of the hybrid membranes under high temperature and low humidity was quantitatively identified. The silicate content contributed to the enhancement of not only proton conductivity, but also water retention ability for PEMFCs operation.
Clay-dispersed nanocomposites have been prepared by simple melt-mixing of two components, styrenic polymers with different content of functional groups and two different organophilic clays (Cloisite(R) 25A and Cloisite(R)30A) with a twin screw extruder. Dispersibility of 10-$\AA$-thick silicate layers of clay in the hybrid was investigated by using an X-ray diffraction method and a transmission electron microscope. It was found that if the interaction force between intercalant and matrix polymer is attractive, the matrix polymer intercalates more rapidly into the gallery of silicate layers. The faster intercalation of matrix polymer leads to the better dispersibility of silicate layers in the matrix polymer.

The approach used in present work allows achieving highly exfoliated state of layered silicate s through confinement of the charged nanobeads within the gallery of swollen pristine clay. The latter is principally promoted by ion exchange that involves polar functional groups on the surface of nanobeads and sodium cation in the interlayer gallery of layered silicates. Surface functionality of the nanobeads plays crucial role in establishment of strong interactions with silicate surface, and eventually, dispersion of individual silicate nanoplatelets.
Olefinic compatibilized blend(R-PP/R-PE)/layered silicate composites have been prepared by melt intercalation technique directed from $Na^{+}$ montmorillonite(MMT) or organophilic montmorillonites while using magnesium hydroxide as flame retardant. Morphology and flammability properties were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), thermogravimetry analysis(TGA), limiting oxygen index(LOI), UL94 test. It is found that the compatibilized blend/layered silicate(Cloisite 20A) nanocomposites have a mixed immiscible-intercalated structure and there is better intercalation when a compatibilizer is combined with the polymer and layered silicate to be melt blended. A very large increase in the LOI value was observed with hybrid filler addition and further enhancement in thermal stability and compatibility of blend was obtained for the compatibilized blend containing small amount of layered silicate.
