Under the time-varying temperature, the high-temperature radiation of forgings and the change of reflection characteristics of oxide skin on the surface of forgings lead to the difficulty of obtaining images to truly reflect the geometric characteristics of forgings. It is urgent to study the clear and reliable acquisition method of hot forging feature image under time-varying temperature to meet the requirements of visual measurement of hot geometric parameters of forgings. Based on this, this chapter first puts forward the quality evaluation method of forging feature image, which provides guarantee for the accurate evaluation of feature image quality. Furthermore, the factors that affect the image quality, such as the radiation characteristics of forgings and the photographic characteristics of cameras, are analyzed, and the imaging spectrum which can effectively suppress the radiation intensity of forgings is determined. Finally, aiming at the problem that the quality of image acquisition is difficult to guarantee due to the drastic change of radiation intensity of forgings under time-varying temperature, an image acquisition method based on minimum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) based laser light intensity adaptation is proposed, which significantly improves the definition of feature light strips in forging images at high temperature, and finally realizes the clear acquisition of feature images of large-scale hot forging under time-varying temperature.

Digital filter suffer from roundoff noise and adder overflows due to finite word length effects. Scaling is an attempt to internal signal levels such that all signals are as large as possible, yet without the occurrence of overflows. Scaling requirements are implemented by the use of transformer. This paper proposes a procedure for scaling wave digital filters to avoid overflow problems and at the same time maximizing the output signal-to-noise ratio. Results indicate that the scaled networks have an improved signal to noise ratio over th unscaled filters under the condition that there be no overflow occuring.

It is very important to simulate various mobile communication channels for the reliable system design and performance tests. Therefore, a new method is proposed in this paper to improve the conventional one for the purpose of the efficient channel simulation having various characteristics. A newly proposed method can simulate any narrow band channel very efficiently from the given Doppler power spectrum model. Also, it has many simulation advantages considering the variety of wireless channel conditions since parameters related with channel characteristics, such as a signal power, signal to noise ratio, direct signal power ratio, etc., can be easily changed according to various propagation environments to be tested.
PIV (particle image velocimetry) systems use a camera to take snapshots of particles carried by a fluid at some precise instants. Signal processing methods are then used to compute the flow velocity field. In this paper, the design of the camera objective (optics) is addressed. The optimization is done in order to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio of in-focus particles. Four different kinds of noise are considered: photon shot noise, thermal and read noise, background glow shot noise, and noise made by the other particles. A semi-empirical model for the lens aberrations of a two-doublet objective is first addressed, since further, it is shown that lens aberrations (low f-value $f_{\#}$) should be used instead of the Fraunhofer diffraction (high f-value) for the fitting of the particle image size with the pixel size. Other important conclusions of the paper include the expression of optimum values for the magnification M, for the exposure period $\tau$ and for the pixel size $\xi$.
We present a spectrum broadening technique to improve the signal-to-noise ratio of spectrum sliced incoherent light sources using the fiber four-wave mixing effect which occurs in a nonlinear loop mirror located at the receiver. The initial transmission channel bandwidth of 0.92 nm was increased to 1.62 nm in the nonlinear loop mirror at the optical receiver, which enhances the signal-to-noise ratio to a desired value. Using this technique, we have demonstrated the transmission of a 2.5 Gb/s NRZ signal with the 0.92 nm bandwidth through a 80 km dispersion-shifted fiber. The measured transmission penalty was less than 0.2 dB at $1{\imes}10^{-10}$ BER.
This paper proposes a new joint channel coding algorithm based on principal component analysis. A conventional joint channel coder using passive downmixing undergoes a reduction of both the primary-to-ambient energy ratio (PAR) of the downmix signal and the panning gain ratio of the primary source. The proposed system preserves the PAR of the downmix signal by using active downmixing which reflects spatial characteristic. The proposed system also improves the accuracy of the panning gain ratio estimation. Computer simulations and subjective listening tests verify the performance of the proposed system.

Extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) signaling pathway is one of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal transduction pathways. This pathway is known as pivotal in many signaling networks that govern proliferation, differentiation and cell survival. The ERK signaling pathway comprises positive and negative feedback loops, depending on whether the terminal kinase stimulates or inhibits the activation of the initial level. In this paper, we attempt to model the ERK pathway by considering both of the positive and negative feedback mechanisms based on Michaelis-Menten kinetics. In addition, we propose a fraction ratio model based on the mass action law. We first develop a mathematical model of the ERK pathway with fraction ratios. Secondly, we analyze the dynamical properties of the fraction ratio model based on simulation studies. Furthermore, we propose a concept of an inhibitor, catalyst, and substrate (ICS) controller which regulates the inhibitor, catalyst, and substrate concentrations of the ERK signal transduction pathway. The ICS controller can be designed through dynamical analysis of the ERK signaling transduction pathway within limited concentration ranges.
This paper proposes a new approach for speech enhancement in highly nonstationary noisy environments. The spectral subtraction (SS) is a well known technique for speech enhancement in stationary noisy environments. However, in real world, noise is mostly nonstationary. The proposed method uses an auto control parameter for an adaptive threshold to work well in highly nonstationary noisy environments. Especially, the auto control parameter is affected by a linear function associated with an a posteriori signal to noise ratio (SNR) according to the increase or the decrease of the noise level. The proposed algorithm is combined with spectral subtraction (SS) using a hangover scheme (HO) for speech enhancement. The performances of the proposed method are evaluated ITU-T P.835 signal distortion (SIG) and the segment signal to-noise ratio (SNR) in various and highly nonstationary noisy environments and is superior to that of conventional spectral subtraction (SS) using a hangover (HO) and SS using a minimum statistics (MS) methods.

In this paper, we consider a precoder design problem for multiuser interference channel. Most of the conventional schemes for precoder design utilize a signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) as a cost function. However, since the SINR metric of a desired transmitter-receiver pair is a function of precoding vectors of all transmitters in the multiuser interference channel, an analytic closed-form solution is not available for the precoding vector of a desired transmitter that maximizes the SINR metric. To eliminate coupling between the precoding vectors of all transmitters and to find a closed-form solution for the precoding vector of the desired transmitter, we use a signal-to-leakage-plus-noise ratio (SLNR) instead as a cost function because the SLNR at a transmitter is a function of the precoding vector of the desired transmitter only. In addition, channel estimation errors for undesired links are considered when designing the precoding vector because they are inevitable in a multiuser interference channel. In this case, we propose a design scheme for the precoding vector that is robust to the channel estimation error. In the proposed scheme, the precoding vector is designed to maximize the worst-case SLNR. Through computer simulation, we show that the proposed scheme has better performance than the conventional scheme in terms of SLNR, SINR, and sum rate of all users.

Magnetic resonance imaging has a potential to produce clear anatomical as well as functional images of human body. However, the ability to diagnose is limited by signal to noise ratio (SNR) and the resolution of current medical systems. To remove the challenges prevalent due to the use of high field scanners, dedicated radio frequency coils are used. Transverse electromagnetic coils have an advantage of providing homogeneous magnetic field throughout the region but with low signal to noise ratio while surface coils have an advantage of providing higher signal to noise ratio but with low homogeneity. This research combines both the advantage into one by utilizing transmit only transverse electromagnetic radio frequency coils (8 channel) along with receive only surface coils (by varying the number) for better imaging of brain. A 7 Tesla 32-channel close fitting helmet shaped phased-array surface coils along with the combination of 8 channel transmit only transverse electromagnetic coils provided good homogeneity as well as significant SNR improvements throughout the human brain.
