  • A primitive gas classification system which can classify limited species of gas was designed and simulated. The 'electronic nose' consists of an array of 4 metal oxide gas sensors with different selectivity patterns, signal collecting unit and a signal pattern recognition and decision Part in PLD(programmable logic device) chip. Sensor array consists of four commercial, tin oxide based, semiconductor type gas sensors. BP(back propagation) neutral networks with MLP(Multilayer Perceptron) structure was designed and implemented on CPLD of fifty thousand gate level chip by VHDL language for processing the input signals from 4 gas sensors and qualification of gases in air. The network contained four input units, one hidden layer with 4 neurons and output with 4 regular neurons. The 'electronic nose' system was successfully classified 4 kinds of industrial gases in computer simulation.

  • Pattern classification of single and multiple discharge sources was applied using a wavelet image signal method in which a feature extraction was applied using a hidden sub-image. A feature extracting method that used vertical and horizontal images using an MSD method was applied to an averaging process for the scale of pulses for the phase. A feature extracting process for the preprocessing of the input of a neural network was performed using an inverse transformation of the horizontal, vertical, and diagonal sub-images. A back propagation algorithm in a neural network was used to classify defective signals. An algorithm for wavelet image processing was developed. In addition, the defective signal was classified using the extracted value that was quantified for the input of a neural network.

  • This paper presents a novel knitted data glove system for pattern classification of hand posture. Several experiments were conducted to confirm the performance of the knitted data glove. To find better sensor materials, the knitted data glove was fabricated with stainless-steel yarn and silver-plated yarn as representative conductive yarns, respectively. The result showed that the signal of the knitted data glove made of silver-plated yarn was more stable than that of stainless-steel yarn according as the measurement distance becomes longer. Also, the pattern classification was conducted for the performance verification of the data glove knitted using the silver-plated yarn. The average classification reached at 100% except for the pointing finger posture, and the overall classification accuracy of the knitted data glove was 98.3%. With these results, we expect that the knitted data glove is applied to various robot fields including the human-machine interface.

  • The use of a chemical sensor array can help discriminate between chemicals when comparing one sample with another. The ability to classify pattern characteristics from relatively small pieces of information has led to growing interest in methods of sensor recognition. A variety of pattern recognition algorithms, including the adaptive radial basis function network (RBFN), may be applicable to gas and/ or odor classification. In this paper, we provide a broad review of approaches for various types of gas and/or odor identification techniques based on RBFN and drift compensation techniques caused by sensor poisoning and aging.

  • Until now variable pattern classification methods have been introduced. So, variable methods in PD source classification were applied. NN(neural network) the most used scheme as a PD(partial discharge) source classification. But in recent year another method were developed. These methods is present superior to NN in the field of image and signal process function of classification. In this paper, it is show classification result in PD source using three methods; that is, BP(back-propagation), ANFIS(adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system), PCA-LDA(principle component analysis-linear discriminant analysis).

  • The Auto Regressive Parameter Estimation and Pattern Classification of EKG Signal for Automatic Diagnosis. This paper presents the results from pattern discriminant analysis of an AR (auto regressive) model parameter group, which represents the HRV (heart rate variability) that is being considered as time series data. HRV data was extracted using the correct R-point of the EKG wave that was A/D converted from the I/O port both by hardware and software functions. Data number (N) and optimal (P), which were used for analysis, were determined by using Burg's maximum entropy method and Akaike's Information Criteria test. The representative values were extracted from the distribution of the results. In turn, these values were used as the index for determining the range o( pattern discriminant analysis. By carrying out pattern discriminant analysis, the performance of clustering was checked, creating the text pattern, where the clustering was optimum. The analysis results showed first that the HRV data were considered sufficient to ensure the stationarity of the data; next, that the patern discrimimant analysis was able to discriminate even though the optimal order of each syndrome was dissimilar.

  • The research focused on the landscape of mountains and hills drawn in a landscape picture. The purpose of the research is to classify patterns of landscape drawning in landscape pictures and to clarify the characteristics of the pattern by a quantitative index. We selected 21 landscape pictures to understand the Landscape Setting Here(LSH) and Landscape Setting These(LST). We investigated size quantitative indices using 1 landscape picture. The index is a follow: altitude, Visual Distance, Angles, Angle of Appearance Size, Inclination, and Angle of Incidence. The following results were obtained by using this data. 1) It has been understood that we offer an important city view because the LSH of this research can establish understanding of the city structure. 2) We dividing 3 patterns by the LST space drawn in the landscape picture. 3 patterns are Ferry point, Beauty point, an Signal-fire point. 3) We clarified the landscape characteristics of each pattern and the characteristics between patterns by using the index according to this pattern. 4) We understood the problem concerning the Seoul city landscape examining the pattern of this research with the ordinance of Seoul city. It is necessary to standardized a system of pattern classification utilized in landscape pictures to establish a universally interpreted detailed quantitative index, which can be applied to research.

  • The monitoring and diagnostics of the rotating machinery have been received considerable attention for many years. The objectives are to classify the machinery condition and to find out the cause of abnormal condition. This paper describes a signal classification method for diagnosing the rotating machinery using the artificial neural network and the wavelet transform. In order to extract salient features, the wavelet transform are used from primary noise signals. Since the wavelet transform decomposes raw time-waveform signals into two respective parts in the time space and frequency domain, more and better features can be obtained easier than time-waveform analysis. In the training phase for classification, self-organizing feature map(SOFM) and learning vector quantization(LVQ) are applied, and the accuracies of them are compared with each other. This paper is focused on the development of an advanced signal classifier to automatise the vibration signal pattern recognition. This method is verified by small reciprocating compressors, for refrigerator and normal and abnormal conditions are classified with high flexibility and reliability.
