Numerical Investigation of Jet Interaction for Missile with Continuous Type Side Jet Thruster

  • A continuous type side jet controller which has four nozzles with thrust control devices was considered. It is deployed to a missile for high maneuverability and fast controllability in the terminal guidance phase. However, it causes more complex aerodynamic jet interactions between the side jet and the supersonic free stream than does the conventional impulse type side jet with a small single thruster. In this paper, a numerical investigation of the jet interference effects for the missile equipped with a continuous type side jet thruster is presented. A three-dimensional flow field was simulated by using a commercial unstructured-based CFD solver. The numerical simulation method was validated through comparison with wind tunnel test results for the single jet. The method of defining jet direction for this type of side jet control to minimize simulation cases was also introduced. Flow fields investigation and jet interaction effects for various flow conditions, jet pressure ratios and defined jet direction conditions were performed. From the numerical simulation for the continuous type side jet, extensive aerodynamic interference data were obtained to construct an aerodynamic coefficients database for precise missile control.

  • The interaction between the hypersonic free stream and the side jet flow at high altitudes is investigated by direct simulation Monte Carlo(DSMC) method. Since there is a great difference in density between the free stream and the side jet flow, the weighting factor technique which could control the number of simulation particles, is applied to calculate these two flows simultaneously. Chemical reactions are not considered in the calculation. For validation, the corner flow passing between a pair of plates that are perpendicularly attached is solved. The side jet flow is then injected into this comer flow and solution is found for the merged flow. Results are compared with the experiments. For a more realistic rocket model, the flow past a blunted cone cylinder shape is solved. The leeward or windward jet injection is merged with this flow. The effect on the rocket surface is observed at various flow angles. The lambda effect and the wake structure are found like low attitudes. High interaction between the free stream and the side jet flow is observed when the side jet is injected in the windward direction.

  • The side jet effects between jet flow and free-stream on a missile body were investigated by experimentally and numerically for modeling aerodynamic coefficients in pitch plane. K-factors for normal force and pitching moment were introduced to estimate the side jet effects. The main parameters of the jet interaction phenomena were angle of attack, jet pressure ratio, Mach number and jet bank angle. The K-factors for normal force coefficient and pitching moment coefficients in pitch plane were analysed.

  • 본 논문에서는 직접모사법을 이용하여 고 고도 희박 영역에서 로켓의 자세 제어에 필수적인 측면 제트 분사와 그에 따른 자유 흐름 유동과 측면 제트의 상호 작용에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 밀도 차가 큰 자유 흐름 유동과 제트 유동을 동시에 모사하기 위해 입자 가중치 기법을 사용하였다. 두 수직한 평판 사이의 유동 및 측면 제트 분사에 의한 상호 작용 해석을 수행하였고 그 결과를 실험치와 비교하여 프로그램을 검증하였다. 좀 더 실제적인 로켓 모델로 blunted cone cylinder 형상에 대하여 받음각을 변화시켜가며 자유 흐름 유동과 측면 제트의 상호 작용에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 표면 압력 차이의 분포를 기준으로 람다(lambda) 충격파와 후류의 영향을 토의하였다. 받음각이 있는 유동의 경우 leeward 방향으로는 제트와 자유 흐름 유동의 상호 작용이 약해지며, windward 방향으로는 상호 작용이 매우 강해지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • Computational study has been undertaken to investigate the aerodynamic influence of side jet on a supersonic missile and to find a similarity condition between the flight condition and the wind tunnel testing. Tasks were performed to validate the existing Raytheon test body with side jet, to simulate the flow inside the supersonic wind tunnel, and to compare the flow fields between the missile in free flight and that in the wind tunnel. Then sub-scale model of body-tail configuration was analyzed to estimate the influence of the side jet on the missile components. It Is found that the influence of side Jet is not as significant on the tail region as on the body surface and a simple algebraic formula for aerodynamic coefficients accounting for the side jet as a point force may be cautiously utilized in setting up control logic.

초음속 유동장에서의 충돌제트 특성에 대한 실험적 연구 (An experimental study on the characteristics of transverse jet into a supersonic flow field)

  • When a secondary gaseous flow is injected vertically into a supersonic flow through circular nozzle, a complicated structure of flow field is produced around the injection area. The interaction between the two streams produces a strong bow shock wane on the upstream side of the side-jet. The results show that bow shock wave and turbulent boundary layer interaction induces the boundary layer separation in front of the side-jet. This study is to analyze the structure of flow fields and distribution of surface pressure on the flat plate according to total pressure ratio using a supersonic cold-flow system and also to study the control force of affected side-jet. The nozzle of main flow was designed to have Mach 2.88 at the exit. The injector has a sonic nozzle with 4mm diameter at the exit of the side-jet. In experiments, The oil flow visualization using a silicone oil and ink was conducted in order to analyze the structure of flow fields around the side-jet. The flow fields are visualized using the schlieren method. In this study, a computational fluid dynamic solution is also compared with experimental results.

  • Three kinds of jet flows encountered in the practical airframe design phase are discussed in this paper. Firstly, the side jet effect on the cavity flow over the flat plate was investigated. Secondly, the aerodynamic modeling of side jet influence on body-tail configuration was presented. Computational study of the similarity parameters was done to minimize the wind tunnel test. Lastly, supersonic jet impingement on a flat plate surrounded by solid walls was simulated numerically for both axi-symmetric and three-dimensional calculations with moving body method.

램프를 이용한 측 추력기 성능향상에 관한 연구 (A Study for Performance Enhancement of Side Jet using a Ramp)

  • 초음속 유동하에서 측 추력기의 후방에 램프를 설치하였을 경우의 유통 현상을 실험 및 수치해석을 이용하여 해석하였다. 실험적인 방법으로, 가시화방법으로는 쉴리렌, 압력 측정을 위한 방법으로 압력 탭 (Pressure Tap), Pressure Sensitive Paint를 이용하였으며, 수치해석을 위하여 AeroSoft사의 GASP ver. 4.0을 사용하였다. 실험조건은 자유류의 흐름이 마하수 4 측 추력기와 자유류의 압력비가 532 이었으며 GASP을 사용하여 3D 램프형상에 대한 고찰을 하였다. 위의 모든 결과들은 후방의 램프가 없을 경우와 비교를 통하여 램프를 장착하였을 경우 수직력의 감소없이 피칭다운 모멘트가 70% 정도 감소함을 확인하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 측추력기 구성품인 Shutter의 열구조 안전성을 평가하기 위해 단방향 유체-구조 연성해석을 수행하였다. Shutter는 측추력기에서 노즐을 개방시키기 위한 구동 토크와 연소가스의 고온, 고압 열하중을 받는 부품으로 연소가 진행되는 동안 열구조 안전성을 확보하여야만 한다. 유체-구조 연성해석을 위해 측추력기의 연소시간동안 내부 유동장에서 발생하는 연소가스의 압력 및 온도 분포, 대류 열전달계수값을 유동해석을 통해 도출하였고, 이 결과 값을 맵핑 방식을 이용하여 열구조 해석의 하중조건으로 부가하였다. 연소시간동안 Shutter에서 발생되는 최대 응력 및 취약위치, 온도분포를 단위 시간 단위로 분석하여 온도에 따른 소재의 인장강도 값과 비교하여 열구조 안전성을 평가 하였다. 또한 반경 방향 변형량을 분석하여 셔터와 노즐목 간의 적정 간극을 설정하는 근거로 활용하였다.
