With the growing popularity of digital video applications, those areas of the efficient transmit, storage management, and search technology for video data are emerging as an important core technology. To be an effective video indexing system, users need to be able to find the video segments that they want. Unfortunately, video data is difficult to manage because of its unstructured data type and large volume with linear forms. This paper proposes a shot verification using visual rhythm and video retrieval system. The shot verification is designed to detect a segment from video easily and quickly, known as shot boundaries, just by changing the visual rhythm without playing the image. Therefore, this can decrease the false detected shots and generate the unidentified shots and key frames. The retrieval system is constructed in terms of visual descriptor from the list of MPEG-7. The effectiveness of the proposed shot verification process and video retrieval system is demonstrated.
Since video is composed of unstructured data with massive storage and linear forms, it is essential to conduct various research studies to provide the required contents for users who are accustomed to dealing with standardized data such as documents and images. Previous studies have shown the occurrence of undetected and false detected shots. This thesis suggested shot verification and video retrieval system using visual rhythm to reduce these kinds of errors. First, the system suggested in this paper is designed to detect the parts easily and quickly, which are assumed as shot boundaries, just by changing the visual rhythm without playing the image. Therefore, this enables to delete the false detected shot and to generate the unidentified shot and key frame. The following are the summaries of the research results of this study. Second, during the retrieving process, a thumbnail and keyword method of inquiry is possible and the user is able to put some more priorities on one part than the other between the color and shape. As a result, the corresponding shot or scene is displayed. However, in the case of not finding the preferred shot, the key picture frame of similar shot is supplied and can be used in the further inquiry of the next scene.
Recent works regarding video shot change detection algorithms show that abrupt shot changes are detected fairly well. However, gradual shot changes including wipes and dissolves are often missed or falsely detected. A robust shot change detection system, therefore, must include a shot verification step to further enhance the overall system performance. In this paper, we introduce the concept of the visual rhythm which is a single image, a subsampled version of a full video. On the visual rhythm, the different video edit effects such as cuts, wipes and dissolves manifest themselves as different patterns. Using this characteristic, it becomes possible, without sequentially playing the entire video, to find false positive shots as well as undetected shots. Thus, inclusion of the visual rhythm in the shot boundary verification process will aid the operator to exclude falsely detected shots as well as to find undetected shots fast and efficiently. For this purpose we have developed a new tool, a shot verifier incorporating the visual rhythm. The usefulness of the visual rhythm during the shot verification process will be presented.

We performed a shot peening test and used a 2-D finite element model which predicts the compressive residual stress distribution below the material's surface. In this study, the concept of 'impact cycle' is introduced to account for the irregularity in the shot's impact position during testing. The impact cycle was imbedded in the finite element model. In the shot peening test, shot bombarded a type-A Almen strip surface with different impact velocities. To verify the proposed finite element model, we compared the deformed cross sectional shape of the Almen strips with the shapes computed by the proposed finite element model. Good agreement was noted between measurements and the finite element model predictions. With the verified finite element model, a series of finite element simulations was conducted to compute the residual stress distribution below the material's surface and the characteristics of these distributions are discussed.
In order to evaluate applicability of rock cut-slope investigation system, typical clinometer and photogrammetry investigation system were used for rock slopes; first for 7 discontinuities, and secondly, 10 discontinuities, and the results were compared. The first verification was performed depending on discontinuity joint shapes and slope angles, and the second verification was performed depending on shot time and shot locations. The results showed that differences of dip direction $1^{\circ}{\sim}4^{\circ}$, dip $0^{\circ}{\sim}4^{\circ}$. In the second verification test, the differences of dip direction was $0^{\circ}{\sim}6^{\circ}$, and dip $0^{\circ}{\sim}6^{\circ}$. The photogrammetry method for rock slope survey system is quite reliable when clinometer generally shows ${\pm}10^{\circ}$ errors due to surface roughness and investigator.
In order to construct a Video Database, shot change detection should be made first. But, because these processes are not automated perfectly, we need a lot of time and efforts now. And, there are many shot change detection algorithms, which can't always insure the perfect result because of the editing effects such as cut, wipe, and dissolves used in film production. Therefore, in order to receive the exact shot change, It needs the verification and correction by manual processing at any cost. Spatiotemporal slice is a simple image condensing method for the content changes of video. The editing effects are expressed on the Spatiotemporal slice in the visually noticed form of vertical line, diagonal line, curved line and gradual color changes, etc. Accordingly the parts doubted as a shot change can be easily detected by the change of the Spatiotemporal slice without replaying the video. The system proposed in this study makes it possible to delete the false detected key frames, and create the undetected key frames on the Spatiotemporal slice.
The Optical Wide-field patroL-Network (OWL-Net) is a global optical network for Space Situational Awareness in Korea. The primary operational goal of the OWL-Net is to track Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites operated by Korea and to monitor the Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) region near the Korean peninsula. To obtain dense measurements on LEO tracking, the chopper system was adopted in the OWL-Net's back-end system. Dozens of angle-only measurements can be obtained for a single shot with the observation mode for LEO tracking. In previous work, the reduction process of the LEO tracking data was presented, along with the mechanical specification of the back-end system of the OWL-Net. In this research, we describe an integrity assessment method of time-position matching and verification of results from real observations of LEO satellites. The change rate of the angle of each streak in the shot was checked to assess the results of the matching process. The time error due to the chopper rotation motion was corrected after re-matching of time and position. The corrected measurements were compared with the simulated observation data, which were taken from the Consolidated Prediction File from the International Laser Ranging Service. The comparison results are presented in the In-track and Cross-track frame.

The decoy defensive weapon system is a one-shot system. Reliability is maintained through periodic inspection and high reliability is required to confirm whether or not the functioning is normal after launch. The maintenance cycle of a decoy was set up without target reliability and reliability prediction during the development period. However, the number of operations in the military has been increasing, necessitating the optimization of the maintenance cycle. Reliability is analyzed using the maintenance data of a decoy operated for several decades and the optimal maintenance cycle is suggested. In chapter 2, data collection and classification methods are presented and analysis methodology is briefly introduced. In chapter 3, the data distribution analysis and fitness verification confirmed that applying the Weibull distribution is the most suitable for the maintenance data of the decoy. In chapter 4, we present the analysis result of percentile, survival probability and MTBF and the optimal maintenance cycle was derived from the reliability analysis. Finally, we suggest the application methods for this paper in the future.
Scene boundary detection is important in the understanding of semantic structure from video data. However, it is more difficult than shot change detection because scene boundary detection needs to understand semantics in video data well. In this paper, we propose a new approach to scene segmentation using contextual information in video data. The contextual information is divided into two categories: local and global contextual information. The local contextual information refers to the foreground regions' information, background and shot activity. The global contextual information refers to the video shot's environment or its relationship with other video shots. Coherence, interaction and the tempo of video shots are computed as global contextual information. Using the proposed contextual information, we detect scene boundaries. Our proposed approach consists of three consecutive steps: linking, verification, and adjusting. We experimented the proposed approach using TV dramas and movies. The detection accuracy of correct scene boundaries is over than 80%.
