Borosilicate glass was incorporated to improve the neutron shielding capability of concrete. Boron is a typical neutron shielding material, and it is contained in borosilicate glass. However, borosilicate glass causes alkali-silica reaction, which damages the concrete. Therefore, studied to reduce the expansion due to alkali-silica reaction and to improve the neuton shielding capability. The measurement of the expansion due to the alkali-silica reaction was based on ASTM C 1260. Experimental results show that the expansion due to alkali-silica reaction is reduced when borosilicate glass powder incorporated. In addition, the neutron shielding capability was significantly improved when the fine aggregate replaced with borosilicate glass.
본 연구는 의료방사선 차폐를 위해 의료 환경에 적합한 친환경 소재를 찾아 방사선 차폐 시트 제작의 가능성을 추정하고자 하는 것이다. 현재 차폐 소재로 주로 사용되는 납을 대신한 텅스텐 제품이 많이 있으나, 경제성으로 인해 경량의 차폐 시트의 대량생산에는 다소 문제가 있다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 경제성 있는 경량 친환경 소재를 필요로 한다. 이러한 소재로써 본 연구에서는 황산바륨과 요오드를 제안하였다. 두 물질은 방사선 촬영에서 이미 조영제로 사용되고 있어 방사선을 흡수하는 특성으로 차폐 재료로써 일정 영역에서 충분히 차폐효과가 있을 것으로 예측하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 방사선 차폐 재료로 검증하기 위해 몬테카를로 시뮬레이션을 이용하여 모의 추정하였다. 황산바륨과 요오드 등 조영제인 경우 고에너지 영역에서 방사선 흡수효과가 크게 나타나, 의료방사선 고관전압 촬영영역 120 kV의 두께별 에너지영역에서 두 차폐물질의 유효성을 평가하였다. 모의 추정 결과 두 물질 모두 차폐의 유효성을 추정할 수 있었다. 요오드가 황산바륨보다 차폐효과 높았으며, 0.05mm 두께에서는 효과성이 크게 나타났다. 따라서 방사선차폐 시트의 제작 재료로 방사선 조영제인 요오드도 황산바륨과 같이 가능하다는 것을 몬데카를로 시뮬레이션을 통해 확인 할 수 있다.
In this study, the authors attempted to produce a medical radiation shielding fiber that can be produced at a nanosize scale and that is, unlike lead, harmless to the human body. The performance of the proposed medical radiation shielding fiber was then evaluated. First, diamagnetic bismuth oxide, an element which, among elements that have a high atomic number and density, is harmless to the human body, was selected as the shielding material. Next, 10-100 nm sized nanoparticles in powder form were prepared by ball milling the bismuth oxide ($Bi_2O_3$), the average particle size of which is $1-500{\mu}m$, for approximately 10 minutes. The manufactured bismuth oxide was formed into a colloidal solution, and the radiation shielding fabric was fabricated by curing after coating the solution on one side or both sides of the fabric. The thicknesses of the shielding sheets prepared with bismuth oxide were 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, and 1.0 mm. An experimental method was used to measure the absorbed dose and irradiation dose by using the lead equivalent test method of X-ray protection goods presented by Korean Industrial Standards; the resultant shielding rate was then calculated. From the results of this study, the X-ray shielding effect of the shielding sheet with 0.1 mm thickness was about 55.37% against 50 keV X-ray, and the X-ray shielding effect in the case of 1.0 mm thickness showed shielding characteristics of about 99.36% against 50 keV X-ray. In conclusion, it is considered that nanosized-bismuth radiation shielding fiber developed in this research will contribute to reducing the effects of primary X-ray and secondary X-ray such as when using a scattering beam at a low level exposure.
In this study, the aim was to assess the shielding performance of different 3D printing materials, specifically those produced using FDM, SLA, and CJP methods, with a focus on their application as shielding devices in clinical settings. Additionally, the weight of lead shielding materials can evoke reluctance in pediatric patients undergoing X-ray imaging. A total of 12 materials were printed using their respective 3D printers. These materials were then subjected to X-ray testing using diagnostic X-ray equipment and an exposure meter. The goal was to evaluate their shielding capabilities in comparison to 1 mm lead. The results of this evaluation revealed that VisiJet PXL-Pastel, produced using the CJP method, exhibited the highest shielding performance. Therefore, VisiJet PXL-Pastel by CJP method was selected for the creation of a shielding device designed for pediatric reproductive organs. Subsequent tests demonstrated that both the newly created shielding device and conventional lead shielding equipment achieved the same maximum shielding rate at 50 kVp. Specifically, the shielding rate for the 3D printed device was measured at 84.53%, while the conventional lead shielding equipment, categorized as Apron1 (85.74%), Apron2 (99.98%), and Apron3 (99.04%), demonstrated similar performance. In conclusion, the CJP-produced VisiJet PXL-Pastel material showcased excellent radiation shielding capabilities, allowing for anatomical observations of the target organs and their surrounding structures in X-ray images. Furthermore, its lower weight in comparison to traditional lead shielding materials makes it a clinically practical and useful choice, particularly for pediatric applications.
본 연구는 핵의학과에서 많이 사용하고 있는 $^{99m}Tc$, $^{123}I$, $^{201}Tl$, $^{18}F$, $^{13}1I$를 비스무트 차폐체에 투과시킨 후 방사성동위원소의 종류와 측정 거리변화에 따라 차폐율을 알아보고자 하였다. 실험을 위해 납당량 0.25 mmPb, 비스무트 차폐체 6장을 두께가 두꺼워 질수록 1.50 mm까지 한 장씩 겹쳐 사용하였고, 거리를 30 cm, 50 cm, 100 cm로 두고 투과선량을 측정하였다. 그 결과 두께가 두꺼워질수록 차폐율이 높게 측정되었고 거리를 멀리할수록 측정값은 작아졌다. $^{99m}Tc$보다 $^{123}I$와 $^{201}Tl$의 차폐율이 가장 높게 나타나 차폐효과가 우수한 것을 확인하였고, $^{18}F$와 $^{131}I$는 고에너지와 ${\beta}$선으로 인해 차폐체가 없을때보다 차폐체가 있을때 차폐효과가 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. 실험결과를 참고하여 방사성동위원소의 종류에 따라 비스무트 차폐체를 사용한다면 핵의학 종사자들의 피폭 저감화와 피폭관리 방안에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.
In this study the method based on flux linkage in cell was introduced in calculation of eddy currents by cell method. According to this method eddy current distribution and the loss can be evaluated and since the shielding effectiveness by flux cancelation of eddy current can be analyzed, this method is applicable to design of conductive shield. And also the formula of shielding factor were so deduced as to be applicable to finite-width infinite-length shielding sheets and infinite-length underground cable shield. These formula are adaptable to magnetic materials as well as conductive materials. As the results of calculation in model shields are follows. In case of finite-width infinite-length shielding sheet, shielding effectiveness increases with increasing of conductivity. In case of infinite-length underground cable shield, the effectiveness become higher with increasing of permeability. Especially the effectiveness is very high in materials with both high conductivity and permeability in underground cable shield.
The objective of this research is to investigate the influence of material characteristic and design on to the electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding characteristics. Basalt glass fiber reinforced composite specimens with stainless fiber conductive filler were manufactured to perform the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness(SE) experiments. In order to reflection and absorb the specimen in electromagnetic fields, flanged coaxial transmission line sample holder was fabricated according to ASTM D 4935-89. Electromagnetic shielding effectiveness(EMSE) was measured quantitatively to examine the electromagnetic shielding characteristics of designed specimens. The result of EMI shielding experiments showed that maximum EMSE value of sandwich type specimens with GSG(basalt glass fiber/stainless fiber/basalt glass fiber) and SGS(stainless fiber/basalt glass fiber/stainless fiber) were 65dB and 80dB at a frequency of 1,500MHz, respectively.
The main objective of this work is to develop melt-blown nonwoven fabric composite materials have electromagnetic shielding characteristics using thin copper film. Melt-blown nonwoven fabric is the matrix phase and thin copper films are the reinforcement of the composite materials. Thin copper films are incorporated as conductive fillers to provide the electromagnetic shielding property of the melt-blown nonwoven fabric. The width and interval of thin copper films in the nonwoven fabric are varied by changing 1, 3, 5 mm for thin copper film's width and 1, 3, 5 mm for thin copper film's interval. The shielding effectiveness(SE) of various melt-blown nonwoven fabrics is measured in the frequency range of 50 MHz to 1.8 GHz. The variations of SE of melt-blown nonwoven fabric with width and interval of thin copper films are described. Suitability of melt-blown nonwoven fabric for electromagnetic shielding applications is discussed. The results indicate that the melt-blown nonwoven fabric composite material using thin copper film can be used for the purpose of electromagnetic shielding.
In the medical field, radiation provides information for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. As the use of radiation increases and the risk of exposure increases, interest in radiation protection is also rapidly increasing. Lead shielding material is mainly used, which has a risk of lead poisoning and absorption into the body. Tungsten mixed filament shielding sheets were fabricated with a size of 70 × 70 mm and a thickness of 1, 2, and 4 mm by using a 3D printer. In the general shooting experiment, the thickness of the shielding sheet is 1 ~ 5mm, the tube voltage is 60, 80, 100, 120 kVp and the tube current is 20, 40 mAs. In general photography, Tungsten showed better shielding rate compared to Brass, Copper, and Lead protective tools under all irradiation conditions, and in particular, Tungsten 5 mm showed 100% shielding rate. The 3D-printed tungsten mixed filament shielding is expected to be used as a new shield that can replace the existing lead protection tools as it shows a better shielding rate than the existing lead protection tools in Radiography.
자기공명영상 고주파를 차단할 수 있는 금속물질 중 자장에 영향을 받지 않으며 가격이 저렴하고 주위에서 쉽게 구할 수 있는 알루미늄 호일을 이용하여 차폐체를 제작하였다. Phantom 실험 결과 over-sampling 기법을 적용한 경우 적용 전보다 aliasing artifact가 약 94% 감소하였고, 알루미늄 차폐체를 적용한 경우도 적용 전 보다 약 92% 감소하였다. 그리고 scan time도 over-sampling 기법의 경우 적용 전보다 약 3배이상 증가한 반면, 알루미늄 차폐체의 경우는 적용 전과 변화가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 알루미늄 호일을 이용한 차폐체도 기존의 흡수재 및 차폐체들과 마찬가지로 scan time의 증가 없이 aliasing artifact를 효율적으로 제거할 수 있는 것을 확인하였다.
