용접부를 고려한 레이저 합체박판 성형공정의 3차원 유한요소 해석 (3-D FEM Analysis of Forming Process for Laser Welded Blank Considering Welded Zone)

  • The finite element formulation is developed for predicting strain distributions and weld line movements in the forming processes of laser welded blank. The welded zone(WZ) is modelled with several narrow finite elements whose material characteristics are analytically obtained from those of base metals based on the tensile tests. In order to show the reliability and effectiveness of weld element the forming process of hemispherical dome stretching and auto-body door inner panel stamping are simulated FEM predictions show good agreements with experimental observations.

  • The electromagnetic (EM) wave absorption properties with a variation of crystallization annealing temperature have been investigated in a sheet-type absorber using the $Fe_{73}Si_{16}B_7Nb_3Cu_1$ alloy powder. With increasing the annealing temperature the complex permeability (${\mu}_r$), permittivity (${\varepsilon}_r$) and power absorption changed. The EM wave absorber shows the maximum permeability and permittivity after the annealing at $610^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour, and its calculated power absorption is above 80% of input power in the frequency range over 1.5 GHz.

스패터 및 기계적 강도특성에 미치는 점용접 조건의 영향 (Effect of Spot Welding Conditions on Spatter and Mechanical Strength Properties)

  • Spot welding is a process that sheet metals are joined in one or more spot by heating at the faying interface. In this process, the spatter is dispersed from melted area. It has been reported that spatter generation has adverse effects on weld quality. However, no systematic study has been carried out to find out its effect on weld quality in resistance spot welding processes. In this study, specially designed specimen are used to perform experimental investigation of spatter generation and its effect. Major finding of this study show trends in tensile-shear strength for various amounts of spatter generated during spot welding process. Thus, optimum welding conditions are proposed in view of spatter generation and tensile-shear strength. (Received December 11, 2002)

초고장력강과 알루미늄 합금의 접합을 위한 SPR 설계 (Design of self-piercing rivet to joint in advanced high strength steel and aluminium alloy sheets)

  • Self-piercing riveting is an joining method of advanced high strength steels (AHSS) and other dissimilar materials. It has attracted considerable interest from the automotive industry. The SPR has become an interesting alternative joining technique for difficult to weld materials such as steels and aluminium alloys. In this paper, self-piercing rivet and anvil for SPR were designed for the joining conditions with AHSS and aluminium alloy. Various conditions of SPR were simulated for the design of rivets and anvils. The simulated results were in good agreement with experimental ones. As a result, over HV500 rivet is desirable to joint SPFC780 AHSS and aluminum alloy.

  • In the tensile loading of sheet metals made from polycrystalline aluminum alloys, a single deformation band appears inclined to the elongation axis in the early stage of plastic deformation, and symmetric double bands are observed in the later stage. This character of the localized deformation bands has been analyzed by a perturbation method. Macroscopic slip modes composed of slip planes and slip directions were assumed to describe the tensile and shear strains. Along time integration path, the value of the perturbation growth parameter was checked to find at which angle to the elongation axis the localized deformation bands are generated. It was shown that the mode of the localized deformation is related to asymmetry of material property.

  • In micro hole punching process the burr occurs inevitably, but the burr must be minimized in order to improve the quality and accuracy of the product. In this study, magnetic field assisted polishing technique is applied to remove the burr which exists in nozzles for ink-jet printer head and proved to be a feasible for deburring by experiment. The deburring characteristics of sheet metals was investigated changing with polishing time. After the deburring, the burr size has remarkably reduced and roundness of the hole also has improved.

Effects of process variables on morphology of palladium metal deposit in hydrochloric acid medium

  • Palladium is widely used for several applications and recovery of palladium from secondary sources becomes increasingly important since palladium is one of maldistributed platinum group metals. Electrochemical recovery of dense palladium metal sheet from Pd leaching solution is a simple and easily controlled method. The surface morphology of the recovered Pd metal was significantly affected by current density and temperature. Dense deposit morphology was in higher stress state regardless of preparation condition under $55^{\circ}C$. Rising temperature up to $70^{\circ}C$ had a stress releasing effect besides densification of Pd deposit.

  • It is well known, for many years, that deep drawability can be improved by applying variable blank holding force. To apply variable blank holding force during cup drawing, we set up cushion pressure control system on the hydraulic press, and the pressure control system is often called NC(Numerically Controlled) cushion system. A cushion pressure control experiment was carried out using the NC cushion and it was shown that the proposed system produced good performance. The comparison of drawability of square cups with and without NC cushion showed that the drawability could be greatly improved when S-shaped pressure curve was applied. This paper includes design details of the NC cushion system and experimental analysis of drawability with NC cushion system.

  • Air gun has been one of the good tools to press two sheet metals. However, it is not easy to control the acting force precisely. A Servo-gun is a good tool to control the acting force on the workpiece comparing with the air gun. Servo-gun has a higher tensile shear strength and lower indentation depth as well as smaller spatter. Dynamic resistance was obtained according to the acting force and welding current. As the acting force was changed during welding, the welding quality was increased.

  • The resistance spot welding process has been extensively used for joining of sheet metals, which are subject to variation of many process variables. Many qualitative analyses of sampled process variables have been successfully attempted to achieve a uniform nugget size. In this paper, the electrode movement signal which is a good indicative of the nugget size was examined by introducing a mathematical model with four parameters. A neural network method was applied for the estimation of the nugget size by four parameters. The prediction by the neural network is in good agreement with the actual nugget size. The results are quite promising in that the qualitative estimation of the invisible nugget size can be achieved without destructive testing of the welds.
