The effect of high shear speed on shear force, shear energy and fracture surface was investigated for the solder joint of a $Sn-_{3.0}Ag-_{0.5}Cu$ ball. For both ENIG and OSP pads, the shear force increased with an increase in shearing speed to 0.3 m/s. However, for an ENEPIG pad, the shear force increased with an increase in shear speed to 0.6 m/s and kept almost constant afterward. The shear energy decreased with an increase in shearing speed for ENIG and OSP pads. For the ENEPIG pad, however, the shear energy almost remained constant in a shearing speed range 0.3-3.0 m/s. The fracture mode analysis revealed that the amount of brittle fracture for the ENIG and the OSP pads increased with shearing speed, and a complete brittle fracture appeared at 1.0 m/s for ENIG and 2.0 m/s for OSP. However, the ENEPIG pad showed only a ductile fracture until 0.25 m/s, and a full brittle fracture didn't occur up to 3.0 m/s. The fracture mode matched well with the shear energy. The results from the high speed shear test of SAC305 were similar to those of SAC105.
The shear behavior of any interface is a function of the fundamental properties of both materials at the interface. This study aimed at investigating the effect of planar surface roughness on the stress-horizontal displacement curve at theinterfaces composed of various geomembrane textures and granular materials. In addition, the extent of surfacialscarring on smooth geomembranes against granular materials during shearing induced by plowing effect was studied. It wasobserved that the displacements required to achieve peak and residual interface resistance, and the stress-displacementcurve at the interface vary greatly with the surface roughness of geomembrane. Quantification of surface roughnessvariations on smooth geomembrane due to plowing effect showed that the surfacial scarring during shearing by the soilparticles is directly related to both the normal stress and the angularity of the soil particles at the interface. The findingsof this study can be used to provide the useful information for the design and selection of counterface materials.
This contribution contained the classical work of an open-hole tensile plate to demonstrate the performance of grating shearography and to compare with the results obtained by other full-field measurement techniques, The isotropic plate with an open-hole has often appeared in the previous contributions introducing novel full-field method and system. Grating shearography directly provided six quantitative measurands about the specimen's surface kinematics by using a single measurement set: three in-plane strains, in plane rotation, and two out-of-plane slopes. The quasi-plane wavefront of grating metrology led to high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and thus neither fitting nor filtering was applied, and the small shearing distance of $101{\mu}m$ could be used. The small shearing distance provided the outstanding spatial resolution of $80{\mu}m$ and sensitivity appropriate for experimental mechanics. Finally, the grating shearography enabled the visualization of the complex surface deformation around the hole and also detected parasitic flexions of the specimen in the micrometer regime during the tensile test.
This study investigates the reinforcing effects of the Multi-bar Spring nails with respect to the conventional Soil-nails in artificial slopes. Based on wide experience related to design and construction, soil nails have been widely applied to reinforce slope in the world. Multi-bar spring nails are one of the improved soil nailing methods. These method maximizes bending, shearing, pull-out resistance for those multi-nails, not unit nail, that are inserted in the borehole using special spacer at regular intervals. In addition, because cutting plane is confined effect resulting from a pressured plate at the end of the nails with compression spring equipment, slope stability is secured using MS-nailing method. Analyzing bending, pull-out, shearing condition of MS-nail, it was examined throughly elastic region, load transfer capacity, reinforcing effect on cutting plate of MS-nails. In addition, Pilot and laboratory tests, numerical analysis were carried out to verify the superiority of MS-nailing method. In case, MS nailing method is applied to reinforce artificial slope, it was analyzed that bending, pull-out, shearing resistance was increased more than existing nailing method was applied. In this study, it was shown that surface failure was more or less prevented using MS-nailing method, confining effect on cutting plane using spring stuck to flexible equipment.
A new deformation process termed "continuouis confined sup shearing" (CCSS) has been developed for shear deformation of metallic sheets. The tools of CCSS were designed to provide a constant shear deformation of the order of 0.5 per pass while preserving the original sheet shape. In order to clarify the evolution of texture and microstructure during CCSS, strips of the aluminum alloy AA3004 were deformed by CCSS in up to three passes. FEM results indicated that CCSS provides a quite uniform shear deformation at thickness layers close to the strip center, although the deformation is not homogeneous in the die channel, in particular at the surface layers. The rolling texture of the initial sheet decreased during CCSS, and preferred orientations along two fibers developed. However, with an increasing number of CCSS passes the deformation texture did not develop futher. The evolution of annealing textures depended on the number of CCSS passes. A strong {112}<110> component in the deformation texture led to the formation of a strong {111}<112) orientation in the annealing texture. Observations by TEM and EBSD revealed the formation of very fine grains of ∼1.0$\mu\textrm{m}$ after CCSS.

The purpose of this study is to investigate fatigue phenomema of woven fabric. In order to obtain the basic data which is available for predicting the fabric fatigue phenomena, the change of mechanical properties of woven fabrics caused by the wearing and the changes of mechanical properties of woven fabrics which were subjected to repeated tensile-shearing deformation using fabric testing machine has been investigated and compared. The fatigue of woven fabrics was examined with the value of basic mechanical properties of specimens measured by the KES-F fabric testing system and their hand value and wearing ability. The results were as follows. 1) The fatigue phenomena of woven fabrics by the wearing for 800 hours are different on the position of the body: On the portion of hip, the change of surface property was the greatest, bending hysterisis was greatly increased, thickness weight, stiffness, fullness shearing hysterisis were more increased than original fabric and T.H.V. was decreased. On the portion of knee, decreasing of tensile resilience and increasing of bending, shearing hysterisis were observed greater than any other part, and increasing of stiffness, crispness was more than original fabric. On the bottom area, the changes of mechanical property was comparatively small, H.V. and T.H.V. showed near the value of the original fabric. 2) By drycleaning most of mechanical properties showed the tendency to recover the value of the original fabric, but bending hysterisis and thickess were increased, tensile and com-pression resilience were decreased more than original fabric in all parts. 3) The fatigue phenomena caused by fabric fatigue testing machine were as follows. The decreasing of hystersis in the repeated deformation such as bending, shearing was appeared at the $10^2$ deformation, but with the increasing cycle, the tendency was slightly regained. Handle value was also appeared the lowest value at the $10^2$ deformation.
Deep excavation may have impact on the adjacent tunnels. It is obvious that the excavation will adversely affect and even damage the existing tunnels if the induced deformation exceeds the capacity of tunnel structures. It hence creates a high necessity to predict tunnel displacement induced by nearby excavation to ensure the safety of tunnel. In this paper, a simplified method to evaluate the heave of the underlying tunnel induced by adjacent excavation is presented and verified by field measurement results. In the proposed model, the tunnel is represented by a series of short beams connected by tensile springs, compressional springs and shear springs, so that the rotational effect and shearing effect of the joints between lining rings can be captured. The proposed method is compared with the previous modelling methods (e.g., Euler-Bernoulli beam, a series of short beams connected only by shear springs) based on a field measured longitudinal deformation of subway tunnels. Results of these case studies show a reasonable agreement between the predictions and observations.
Shearing including punching, blanking, trimming, slitting, etc is one of the most frequently used processes in sheet metal manufacturing. It has been widely used for manufacturing autobody, electronic components, aircraftbody, etc. In this paper, it has been researched by the experiment to examine the effect of burr height corresponding to die clearance, cutting angle, tool sharpness, etc. This paper presents the experimental results with using Al alloy sheet.
