This study was carried out to evaluate the mechano-sorptive deflection of shear creep of drift pin jointed solid wood. Specimens were the solid wood of Pinus densiflora. The joint was composed with steel plate and drift pin, 85mm in length and 10mm in diameter. The creep tests were conducted under the constant loads in an variable environment. Five different shearing loads were applied parallel to the grain of specimens. The shearing loads applied were 170, 340, 510, 680 and 850 kgf. The stress levels were 10, 20, and 30, 40 and 50% of the bearing strength obtained from the tension-type lateral strength test. The creep tests for specimens were carried out for 10300 hours. A few general conclusions could be drawn from this study: The mechano-sorptive deflection (${\delta}$ ms) is defined as ${\delta}\;ms={\delta}\;t-({\delta}\;c+{\delta}\;sh)-{\delta}\;o$, where ${\delta}$ t is the total deflection, ${\delta}$ c is the pure creep, ${\delta}$ sh is shrinkage-swelling behavior, and ${\delta}$ o is the initial deflection. Changes of relative humidity may cause more severe creep deflection than those of constant humidity, especially during the drying process. The mechano-sorptive behaviors of specimens, except the effects of shrinkage and swelling, gradually increased with increasing time. The deflection is increased in desorption process and recovered in adsorption process. The deflections of drift pin jointed solid wood under different loads showed almost same tendency in all specimens. Although the creep deflection tendencies of each series are very similar, the specimens subjected to a large shearing load exhibit large creep deflections in the desorption process than do those to the small shearing load specimens.
PolyJet technology is an additive manufacturing (AM) technology commonly used for modeling, prototyping, and production applications. It is one of the techniques used for 3D printing. The PolyJet technique is a process that joins materials to fabricate a product from 3D CAD data in a layer-by-layer manner. The orientation of a layer can affect the mechanical properties of the product manufactured by the PolyJet technique because of its anisotropy. In this paper, tensile and shearing tests of specimens were developed with the PolyJet technique in order to study the mechanical properties according to the orientation of a layer. The mechanical properties of the specimens were determined on the basis of true stress-strain curves from tensile and shearing tests. In addition, the tensile and shearing tests were simulated under the same conditions as those of experiment, and the experiment and simulated results were compared. Through this study, the fracture criteria could be established.
An experiment is carried out to investigate the influences of shearing characteristic factors for the process design of lead frame blanking in copper alloy C194(t=0.205mm). 3 process parameters, e.g., clearance between die and punch, strip holding pressure, and bridge allowance are selected for this study. From the basis condition 6% clearance, 20N/$mm^2$, and 1.5t bridge allowance the seven times of experiment are done by varying the each factor. The square shape specimen is used to study the characteristics of shearing factors. The ratios of roll over, burnish, fracture zone are measured after blanking. The experimental analysis shows that the burnish ratio is decreased as the clearance increases. And the larger strip holding pressure is shown that the roll over and burnish ratio are both decreased. It is found that an optimal strip holding pressure is need for large burnish zone. Finally it is shown that the bridge allowance is less affected than clearance and strip holding pressure.
While recent industrial structure is various, it is small quantity batch production structure, and products requiring of various functions are increasing. In order to improve the quality of the sheared surface in cutting of inner structure bonded sheet metal the cut-off operation is mainly investigated, which is the typical shearing process in sheet metal forming technology. The sandwich sheet metals considered have inner structure which is constructed in the form of crimped expanded metal and woven metal. The inner structure is bonded between solid sheet by resistance welding or adhesive bonding. The shearing process is visualized by the computer vision system installed in front of the cut-off die and the sheared surface is measured and quantitatively compared with the help of the optical microscope after cut-off operation. From test results we found that the influence of sheared position can be observed and explained clearly and this result can be utilized to get the better sheared surface.
Hot shear-welding is a process of bonding two plates together by using shearing stress in a controlled manner. This study dealt with the hot shear-welding process of two aluminum plates. These two plates were piles up in the shear-welding mold. Due to the shearing stress, these two plates were cut off longitudinally, and meantime they were welded together. During this process the control of the surplus material flow is very important, and it can be realized by designing the overlapping length and the shape of the cavity. The commercial software Deform-3D was employed to predict the effect of these two factors. The overlapping length and the shape of the cavity that presents the optimum design was then developed to get a good shear-welding process.
Roll forming is a continuous production process that is mass-produced. The roll forming process is produced in various forms. The special feature of roll forming is a continuous production. Therefore, the process of cutting the material is essential. The troubles in a shearing process affects the low productivity. Accordingly, it is important to reduce the factors that inhibit the material flow. And it is difficult to apply the common shear angle. Because it is not a simple forms, such as a progressive die. This study shows how to select the angle of a shear punch and the shape of a cutting punch in the product with a specific shape. Conclusively through three different model, it is advantageous to apply the different shear angle and clearance along the forms.
In the fine blanking process, which is a press operation known for producing parts with narrow clearances and high precision through the application of high pressure, die roll often occurs during the shearing process when the punch penetrates the material. This die roll phenomenon can significantly reduce the functional surface of the parts, leading to decreased product performance, strength, and fatigue life. In this research, we conducted an in-depth analysis of the factors influencing die roll in the curvature area of the fine blanking process and identified its root causes. Subsequently, we designed and experimentally verified a die roll reduction process specifically tailored for the door latch manufacturing process. Our findings indicate that die roll tends to increase as the curvature radius decreases, primarily due to the heightened bending moment resulting from reduced shape width-length. Additionally, die roll is triggered by the absorption of initial punch energy by scrap material during the early shearing phase, resulting in lower speed compared to the product area. To mitigate the occurrence of die roll, we strategically selected the Shaving process and carefully determined the shaving direction and clearance area length. Our experiments demonstrated a promising trend of up to 75% reduction in die roll when applying the Shaving process in the opposite direction of pre-cutting, with the minimum die roll observed at a clearance area length of 0.2 mm. Furthermore, we successfully implemented this approach in the production of door latch products, confirming a significant reduction in die roll. This research contributes valuable insights and practical solutions for addressing die roll issues in fine blanking processes.
Tool wear in the shearing process such as blanking, piercing and trimming is very important, because it has great effects on the dimensional accuracy, working efficiency and economy. Most of tools in the shearing process have the coated layer at surface fur good wear and corrosion resistance. When the surface of tool is teated, the wear Phenomena of coated surface layer and inner layer may be different. This paper describes a computer modelling technique by the finite element method in order to investigate the wear mechanism and to predict the wear profile of Ti-N coated tool in piercing process according to the volume of Production. Wear coefficients of the coated layer and inner layer are obtained through Pin-on-Disk wear test, respectively. To verify the effectiveness of the suggested technique, the technique is applied to wear analysis in piercing recess of piston pin and simulation results are compared with experimental ones.

A new on-line bar joining technology employing the concept of a solid-state joining has been developed for the endless rolling by POSCO, RIST and MHMM Inc.. In the process, the bars are partially descaled, partially overlapped, joined by shearing action and crops are finally removed. The feasibility of the developed process was evaluated in this study in terms of microstructures and mechanical properties of joints, and the response of the joint to rolling.
Blanking process is widely used fur producing various structural parts. However, fine blanking technology is frequently used as a single step blanking operation with clean cut surface of a sheared surface because the fractured surface of parts causes serious problems in the final product and therefore it must be removed by the post-processing in case of the conventional blanking. In the present investigation, a fine blanking process was designed within the framework of progressive die to produce a carrier plate assembled within the auto transmission. Finite element analysis of the shearing behavior at the respective stage of the progressive fine blanking was conducted to validate the designed die parameters. Finally the designed progressive fine blanking process was experimentally evaluated by using the machined die.
