Improvement Effect and Field Application of Dynamic Replacement Using Crushed Rock (암버력 매립층의 동치환공법 현장 적용성 및 개량효과에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of soft ground improvement by dynamic replacement with utilizing crushed rock. In order to understand the ground improvement effect when applying dynamic replacement method with crushed rock, the laboratory test and field test were performed. The internal friction angle and apparent cohesion were derived through direct shear test. The dynamic replacement characteristics were identified by analyzing the weight, drop, and number of blows needed for dynamic replacement. Through the field plate bearing test and density test, the bearing capacity and settlement of the improved ground were measured, and the numerical analysis were conducted to analyze the behavior of the improved ground. In this study, it proposes modified soil experimental coefficient(CDR) to 0.3~0.5 in the dynamic replacement method with crushed rock. Also when applying the dynamic replacement method using crushed rock, the particle size range is less than 100 mm, D90 is less than 80 mm and D15 is more than 30 mm.

Effects of wheat supplementation levels on growth performance, blood profiles, nutrient digestibility, and pork quality in growing-finishing pigs

  • Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate various wheat supplementation levels on growth performance, blood profiles, nutrient digestibility, and pork quality in growing-finishing pigs. Methods: A total of 120 growing pigs ($[Yorkshire{\times}Landrace]{\times}Duroc$), with an average $27.75{\pm}1.319kg$ body weight, were used in growth trial. Pigs were allotted into each treatment by body weight and sex in 4 replicates with 6 pigs per pen in a randomized complete block design. Fourphase feeding programs were used in this experiment. The treatments included the following: i) corn-soybean meal (SBM) - based diet (CON), ii) corn-SBM - based diet+15% of wheat (W15), iii) corn-SBM - based diet+30% of wheat (W30), iv) corn-SBM - based diet+45% of wheat (W45), and 5) corn-SBM-based diet+60% of wheat (W60). Results: There was no significant difference in growth performance among the dietary treatments. However, the gain-to-feed (G:F) ratio tended to increase (quadratic, p<0.08) when the pigs were fed a higher wheat diet during the finishing period. The digestibility of crude ash and fat tended to decrease as the wheat supplementation level increased (p<0.08). The proximate analysis of the longissimus muscle was not affected by the dietary level of wheat. The crude ash content in pork was decreased linearly as the wheat supplementation level increased (p = 0.05). There was no significant difference in the pH level, shear force, water holding capacity, and cooking loss of the pork. In pork and fat, $L^{\star}$, $a^{\star}$, and $b^{\star}$ values were not significantly different among dietary treatments. Conclusion: Wheat can be supplemented up to 60% in a growing-finishing pig without detrimental effects on growth and pork quality. The G:F ratio tended to improve in the finishing period by wheat inclusion.

Effect of Carcass Weight on Physicochemical and Sensory Traits of Duck Meat (오리 도체중량이 오리고기의 이화학적 특성 및 관능특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of carcass weight on the physicochemical and sensory traits of duck meat. In total, 150 duck carcasses were divided into five different weight groups. The fat content in both breast and leg meats tended to increase with increased carcass weight. The cooking loss was significantly higher in the <2,200 g weight group and decreased with increased carcass weight. There was no significant difference in pH, water-holding capacity, lightness, or redness among carcass weight groups. The shear force was significantly higher in the ${\geq}2,800g$ weight group. The oleic acid (C18:1, n9) content in both the breast and leg meats tended to increase with increased carcass weight. The unsaturated fatty acid content in the breast meats was similar for all the groups whereas its content in the leg meats increased with increased weight groups. There was no significant difference in the sensory scores among the treatments. Taken together, it may be said that the carcass weight had minor effects on the physicochemical traits of duck meat. Further studies are needed to determine the effects of different carcass weights in the same raising period on duck meat quality.

A Study on the Tissue Response and Bone Formation after Augmentation Using Proplast and Porous Polyethylene in Rabbit Mandible (Proplast와 Porous Polyethylene을 이용(利用)한 가토(家兎) 하악골(下顎骨) 증대술후(增大術後) 조직반응(組織反應) 및 골형성(骨形成)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • Proplast and Porous Polyethylene which have porous structures as low-modulus polymers have been recently used in maxillofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery. The purpose of this study was to compare the response of adajacent tissue, new bone formation and stability after augmentation by differen methods of subperiosteal graft using proplast and purous polythylene in rabbit mandible. The augmentation procedure was carried out by dividing into two groups, A and B. A group consisted of subperiosteal graft on the cortex, and the other B group was made up only graft following artificial decortication in the mandibular body of rabbit. The experimental animals were sacrificed on the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 8th week after grafting for macroscopic and light microscopic examination. The samples extracted at the 6th postgrafting week were also used for biometric testing and scanning electron microscopic examination. The results obtained from this study were as follows : 1. Macroscopically, infection of graft site, deformation and migration of graft material were not observed in all experimental groups. 2. B group showed more rapid and increased bone formation and the greater stability than A group, and tissue response was similar to each other. 3. In the tissue response, macrophages and cellular infiltrations were observed in Proplast group, but few in PHDPE group. 4. In bone formation of A group, Proplast group showed no bone formation until the 8th week, but PHDPE group showed small quantity of osteoid tissue from the 2nd week and appositional bone growth with new bone formation at the 8th week. 5. In bone formation of B group, both Proplast and PHDPE group showed bone formation, but PHDPE group showed more rapid and larger bone formation. 6. In pattern of bone formation, Proplast group mainly showed appositional bone growth pattern connected with graft site. On the other hand, PHDPE group showed mixed pattern of new bone formation in the pore connective tissue with appositional bone growth from graff site. 7. The maximum mean values of shear stress were serially $111.3gf/mm^{2}$ in PHDPE of B group, $84.8gf/mm^{2}$ in PHDPE of A group, $32.9gf/mm^{2}$ in Proplast B group, and $15.7gf/mm^{2}$ in Proplast of A group. From above results, It was suggested that the capacity of bone formation and stability between bone and graft material were dependent on the pore size and structure of graft material itself, the state of graft site and tissue response.

Finite Element Analysis for Investigating the Behavior of Gravel Compaction Pile Composite Ground (GCP 복합지반의 거동분석을 위한 유한요소해석)

  • Gravel Compaction Pile (GCP) method is currently being designed and constructed by empirical method because quantitative design method has not been developed, leading to various types of and frequent destruction such as expansion failure and shear failure and difficulties in establishing clear cause and developing measure to prevent destruction. In addition, despite the difference with domestic construction equipment and material characteristics, the methods applied to the overseas ground is applied to the domestic as it is, leading to remarkable difference between applied values and measured values in variables such as bearing capacity and the settlement amount. The purpose of this study was, therefore, to propose a reasonable and safe design method of GCP method by analyzing the settlement and stress behavior characteristics according to ground strength change under GCP method applied to domestic clay ground. For the purpose, settlement amount of composite ground, stress concentration ratio, and maximum horizontal displacement and expected location of GCP were analyzed using ABAQUS. The results of analysis showed that the settlement and Settlement reduction rate of composite ground decreased by more than 60% under replacement ratio of 30% or more, that the maximum horizontal displacement of GCP occurred at the depth 2.6 times pile diameter, and that the difference in horizontal displacement is slight under replacement ratio of 30%.

Design for Installation of Suction Piles in Sand Deposits for Mooring of Floating Offshore Structures (부유식 해상구조물의 계류를 위한 사질토 지반의 석션파일 설계)

  • The preliminary design of suction pile as the supporting system for concrete floating structures was performed for the pilot project of the southwest coast area in Korea. Prior to starting design work, site conditions of the area including ground and hydraulic conditions, and a 100-year return period external force were throughly evaluated. The suction pile for mooring of the offshore floating structures has to satisfy the lateral resistance against external force as well as the penetration ability according to the soil conditions such as soil types, shear strengths, effective stresses, and seepage forces. In the design, the required penetration depths, which were stable for lateral resistance, were evaluated with the diameters of cylindrical suction pile as the final installing ones. And the design suction pressures at each penetrating depths, at which sand boiling did not occur, were assessed through the comparison of penetration and penetrationresistance forces. As a result, it was impossible for suction piles with the diameter range of 3.0~5.0 m to penetrate into required penetration depths. On the other hand, suction piles with the diameter range of 6.0 m and 7.0 m satisfied both the horizontal stability and the penetration ability by design suction pressures at the required penetration depths of 8.5 m and 8.0 m, respectively.

Quality Characteristics of Beef Rib Aged in Fermented Sauce Prepared by Zygosaccharomyces rouxii Cultivation (Zygosaccharomyces rouxii를 이용하여 제조한 발효양념으로 숙성시킨 소 갈비육의 품질 특성)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the effect of the fermented beef rib sauce (FBS) on the change of quality characteristics and sensory properties of aged and seasoned beef rib with FBS. The FBS was manufactured by fermentation with Zygosaccharomyces rouxii Y-80 yeast in raw sauce ingredients. The decreasing changes of pH of seasoned beef rib with FBS showed a similar pattern as compared with seasoned beef rib by non-fermented beef rib sauce (NFBS) during aging periods. The cooking loss of the seasoned beef rib with FBS and NFBS exhibited minor changes, respectively. Water holding capacity of the seasoned beef rib with FBS was nearly unchanged, but that of the seasoned beef rib with NFBS increased from 83% to 91% after 5 day aging. Shear forces of the seasoned beef rib with FBS were lower than those of the seasoned beef rib with NFBS. The yellowness and lightness of the seasoned beef rib with FBS decreased as compared with the seasoned beef rib with NFBS, but redness of the seasoned beef rib with FBS was more stable than that of the seasoned beef rib with NFBS. The sensory evaluation indicated that color, aroma and overall acceptability of the seasoned beef rib with FBS were scored relatively higher than those of the seasoned beef rib with NFBS.

Geology and Ore Deposits in the Haman-Kunbuk Copper District (함안군북지구(咸安郡北地區)의 지질(地質)과 동광상(銅鑛床))

  • The district investigated covers the central and southern portions of the Uiryong Quadrangle amounting to $40km^2$ in area and is bounded approximately by geographical coordinates of $128^{\circ}$ 28' $40^{{\prime}{\prime}}{\sim}128^{\circ}$ 24' 25"E in longitude and $35^{\circ}10{\prime}{\sim}35^{\circ}14^{\prime}06^{{\prime}{\prime}}N$ in latitude. The purpose of this investigation was to provide basic information in drawing up a comprehensive development plan of the copper ore deposits known to exist in the HamanKumbuk district with special emphasis given to the ascertainment of geological and paragenetic characteristics. The area consists chiefly of shale, sandy shale and chert, all belong to Kyongsang System of Cretaceous age. Intruded into these rocks are andesite, granodiorite, basic dikes, and acidic dikes. The mineralization which took place in the area, consists of mostly fissure-filling vein deposits, numbering several tens, with varying magnitudes. The fissures and shear zones created in rocks, such as chert and granodiorite, hosted the deposition of mineralizing vapors and/or hydrothermal solutions along their openings. The strike lengths of these veins vary from 50 to 600 meters in extension and 0.1 to 3 meters in width. Although the degree of fluctuation in width is great, it averages 0.3m. The stuctural patterns, which apparently affected the deposition of veins, are fissure patterns, trend NS to $N30^{\circ}W$, and steep-pitching tension fractures as well as normal fault pattern. Ore minerals associated with vein matters are primarily chalcopyrite and small amounts of scheelite, cobaltiferous arsenopyrite, and gold and silver intimately associated with sulphide minerals. Associated with these ore mineral are pyrite, pyrrhotite, magnetite, specularite and arsenopyrite. Gangue minerals noted are quartz, calcite, chlorite, tourmaline and hornblende. In terms of the compositions of associated minerals, the vein deposits in the district could be grouped under the following four categories: 1. Pyrrhoitite, Arsenopyrite, Gold and Silver Bearing Copper Vein (Type I) 2. Calcite-Scheelite-Copper Vein (Type II) 3. Magnetite-Pyrite-Copper Vein (Type III) 4. Tourmaline Copper Vein (Type IV) Of the four types, the first and the fourth are presently yielding relatively higher grades: of copper ores and concentrates. With regard to the problem of beneficiation and upgrading of low-grade ores in the district, it would be advisable to make decisions on location, treating capacity and mill flowsheet after sufficient amount of exploration is completed as suggested in the report.

Effects of Energy Level of Concentrate Feed on Meat Quality and Economic Evaluation in Finishing Hanwoo Steers (거세한우 비육후기 농후사료 에너지 수준이 육질 및 경제성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of energy level of concentrate feed in finishing Hanwoo steers for 6 months before slaughter. Feeding trial was done with 2 treatment groups, IDN72 (72% of TDN in concentrate) and TDN74 (74 % of TDN in concentrate). The body weight (from 19 to 24 months) tended to be higher in TDN74 than in TDN72, but was not significant. Average daily gain of TDN74 was higher by 4.4 % in comparison to TDN72. There was no significant differences in concentrate, dry matter and TDN intake per I kg body weight gain between TDN72 and TDN74. And there was a tendency to improve crude protein intake per I kg body weight gain by increasing TDN content from 72 to 74 %. The dressing percentage tended to be higher in TDN74 than in TDN72, but was not significant. Salable meat percentage tended to be lower in TDN74 than in TDN72 because of higher body fat percentage in TDN74 than in TDN72. There were no significant differences in marbling score, meat color, fat color, carcass weight, rib-eye area and back fat thickness between TDN72 and TDN74. Significant differences were not found in shear value, cooking loss, water holding capacity or moisture and protein contents of longissimus dorsi (LD) muscles between TDN72 and TDN74. Fat content of LD muscles tend to be lower in TDN74 than in IDN72 but without any significance. There was a tendency to improve juiciness and taste by feeding IDN74 rather than TDN72. Especially, tenderness of TDN74 was increased by 7.4% in comparison to TDN72 (p < 0.05). Gross income from TDN74 was higher than TDN72 by 5% The results suggested that significant differences were not found in growth performance, feed conversion and carcass characteristics between TDN72 and TDN74. The results also show that more studies are required to clarify the energy level for finishing Hanwoo steers.

Effects of Dietary Mugwort Powder on Carcass and Meat Quality Characteristics of Gilt and Barrow in Growing-Finishing Period (인진쑥 급여가 성별에 따른 육성-비육기 돈육의 도체 및 육질특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to determine the effect of mugwort powder on carcass characteristics, proximate composition, cholesterol contents, and meat qualities in growing-finishing gilt and barrow(LY×D). Totally 80 pigs (40 gilts and 40 barrows, approximately 50kg each) with 10 pigs per treatment were randomly alloted. The diet group was prepared as 0(C), 0.5(T1), 1.0(T2), and 1.5%(T3) mugwort powder in basal diet, respectively. They were fed experimental diets for 90 days before slaughtered. Carcass weight was increased by dietary mugwort powder(p<0.05), whereas changes in back fat thickness and meat grade were unaffected by dietary supplements. Meat moisture, fat, ash, and cholesterol were not differ significantly in the samples, however, protein in T2 and T3 were significantly higher than the control (p<0.05). Meat pH48, water holding capacity, and cooking loss were not differ significantly in the samples (p>0.05), and shear force of fresh meat and fat were not differ significantly in the samples(p>0.05). Lightness(L*) of meat was increased but that of fat was decreased by dietary mugwort powder, whereas changes in redness(a*) and yellowness(b*) were unaffected by dietary supplements.
