The objective of this study is the development of size, shape and topology discrete optimum design algorithm which is based on the genetic algorithms. The algorithm can perform both shape and topology optimum designs of trusses. The developed algerian was implemented in a computer program. For the optimum design, the objective function is the weight of trusses and the constraints are stress and displacement. The basic search method for the optimum design is the genetic algorithms. The algorithm is known to be very efficient for the discrete optimization. The genetic algorithm consists of genetic process and evolutionary process. The genetic process selects the next design points based on the survivability of the current design points. The evolutionary process evaluates the survivability of the design points selected from the genetic process. The efficiency and validity of the developed size, shape and topology discrete optimum design algorithms were verified by applying the algorithm to optimum design examples

In this paper, we propose a new shape from shading algorithm which reconstructs object shapes from a single image. In the proposed intative algorithm, given 3D surfaces are approximated by orthogonal polynomials and the relationships between the given surface and its derivatives are constructed ad matrix forms in terms of polynomial coefficients, Also the relative depth and its derivatives are obtained by updating them iteratively. Performance of the propose shape from shading algorithm is evaluated in terms of brightness error, orientation error, and height error, and the performance comparison of the proposed and conventional algorithms is shown.
In this paper, a new shape control law is derived as a result of introducing the parametric curve representation. This control alw is based on the estimation of the curve parameters corresponding to the target joint positions and the target tip position. Estimating target curve parameters makes it possible to find, easily, a simple shape control law by the Lyapunov design method.

Most of clustering methods usually employ a center or predefined shape of a cluster to assign the input data into the cluster. When there is no information about data set, it is impossible to predict how many clusters are to be or what shape clusters take. (the shape of clusters could not be easily represented by the center or predefined shape of clusters) Therefore, it is difficult to assign input data into a proper cluster using previous methods. In this paper, to overcome such a difficulty a cluster is to be represented as a collection of several subclusters representing boundary of the cluster. And membership functions are used to represent how much input data bllongs to subclusters. Then the position of the nearest subcluster is adaptively corrected for expansion of cluster, which the subcluster belongs to by use of a competitive learning neural network. To show the validity of the proposed method a numerical example is illustrated where FMMC(Fuzzy Min-Max Clustering) algorithm is compared with the proposed method.
Nowadays, our societies use digital technology in new architectural shape and space design to transcend three dimension limit so the boundary of the imagination world and actuality world has been collapsed. Traditional spatial value has been collapsed. Also indetermination and temporary assumption in time, fluidness and dematerialized, simultaneity and reiteration in image are relative with this circumstances. In architectural shape, media characteristics which secede from traditional characteristics of place tectonic value have occurred. Therefore, indifference and interests in shape, inter-permeation in interior and exterior space, homogeneous equivalence spatial extension have occurred. The purpose in this study examines dematerialized in contemporary space design and light materials and also investigates general and architectural background. The results of this study are as follows. First, circumstances of human have changed from physically limited boundary to unfixed, nonphysical, lightness and vague things. Second, casting off volume in shape and also dissembling exclusive and constructive Third, interior and exterior space by transparency intimates media possibility of information screen. Fourth, seek information and organic response, ambivalent transformation, accumulation of image and new mutual understanding system.

It was demonstrated that the glottal waves are different depending on a kind of vowels in deriving the glottal waves directly from Korean vowels/a, e, I, o, u/ w, ch are recorded by a male speaker. After resynthesizing vowels with five simulated glottal waves, the effects of glottal wave shape on the speech synthesis were compared with in terms of waveform. Some changes could be seen in the waveforms of the synthetic vowels with the variation of the shape, opening time and closing time, therefore it was confirmed that in the speech sysnthesis, the glottal wave shape is an important factor in the improvement of the speech quality.

An on-line quality control of hot steel products is one of the important issues in the steel industry because of cost minimization. In recent years, relative depth information of surface defects is increasingly required for strict quality control. In this paper, a 3D shape reconstruction scheme for defects on a hot steel surface based on a multi-spectral photometric stereo method is proposed. After simultaneously illuminating a hot steel surface by using vertical/horizontal linearly polarized lights of green and blue light sources, the corresponding 4 images are obtained. The photometric stereo method is then applied with the aid of a GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) to reconstruct the shape of the target surface based on these images. The proposed scheme was validated through experiments.

In this paper, we propose a concrete crack detection method using shape properties. It is based on morphology algorithm and crack features. We assume that an input image is contaminated by various noises. Thus, we use a morphology operator and extract patterns of crack. It segments cracks and background using opening and closing operations. Morphology based segmentation is better than existing integration methods using subtraction in detecting a crack it has small width. Also, it is robust to noisy environment. The proposed algorithm classifies the segmented image into crack and background using shape properties of crack. This method calculates values of properties such as the number of pixels and the maximum length of the segmented region. Also, pixel counts of clusters are considered. We decide whether the segmented region belongs to cracks according to those data. Experimental results show that our proposed crack detection method has better results than those by existing detection methods.

To avoid influences caused by pose, illumination and facial expression variations, we propose a robust three-step algorithm based on ASM and POEM for facial landmark localization. Firstly, Model Selection Factor is utilized to achieve a pose-free initialized shape. Then, we use the global shape model of ASM to describe the whole face and the texture model POEM to adjust the position of each landmark. Thirdly, a second localization is presented to discriminatively refine the subtle shape variation for some organs and contours. Experiments are conducted in four main face datasets, and the results demonstrate that the proposed method accurately localizes facial landmarks and outperforms other state-of-the-art methods.

Detecting Hand Region is essencial technology to providing User based interface and many research has been continue. In this paper will propose Hand Region Detection method by using HSV space based on Back Projection and Hand Shape Recognition using Hu Moment. By using Back Projection, I updated reliability on Hand Region Detection by Back Projection method and, Confirmed Hand Shape could be recognized through Hu moment.
