  • Hangul is a language that is composed of initial, medial, and final syllables. It has 11,172 characters. For this reason, the current method of designing all the characters by hand is very expensive and time-consuming. In order to solve the problem, this paper proposes an automatic Hangul font generation system and evaluates the standards for mapping Hangul characters to produce an effective automated Hangul font generation system. The system was implemented using character generation engine based on deep learning CycleGAN. In order to evaluate the criteria when mapping characters in pairs, each criterion was designed based on Hangul structure and character shape, and the quality of the generated characters was evaluated. As a result of the evaluation, the standards designed based on the Hangul structure did not affect the quality of the automated Hangul font generation system. On the other hand, when tried with similar characters, the standards made based on the shape of Hangul characters produced better quality characters than when tried with less similar characters. As a result, it is better to generate automated Hangul font by designing a learning method based on mapping characters in pairs that have similar character shapes.

  • A new blank design method is proposed to predict the optimum initial blank shape in the sheet metal forming process. The rollback method for blank shape design takes the difference between the deformed blank contour and the target contour shape into account. the minimization object function R is proposed. Based on the method, a computer program composed of blank design module, FE-analysis module and mesh generation module is developed. The rollback method is applied to square cup, reentrant cross section, L-shaped cup drawing process with the flange of uniform size around its periphery to confirm its validity. The optimum initial blank shape is obtained from an arbitrary blank shape after several modifications. Good agreements are recognized between the numerical results and the published experimental results for initial blank shape and thickness strain distribution. It is concluded that the rollback method is an effective and convenient method for an optimum blank shape design.

  • The object of this study is shape finding and cutting pattern generation of membrane structures under the following assumptions : (1) material is linearly elastic (2) stress state is plane stress. Cable and membrane structures should introduce the nonlinear analysis considering geometric nonlinearity because these structures deform largely under the external loads. The analysis procedure is consisted of three steps considering geometric nonlinearity unlike any other structures. First step is the shape finding analysis to determine the initial equilibrium shape. Second step is the stress-deformation analysis to investigate the behaviors of structures under various external loads. Once a satisfactory shape has been found, a cutting pattern based on the shape finding analysis may be generated from the view point of construction. In this paper, (1) shape finding analysis formulation and an example, (2) cutting pattern determination procedure using weighted least-square minimization flattening method and some results are presented.

  • Membrane structures, a kind of lightweight soft structural system, are used for spatial structures. The material property of the membrane has strong axial stiffness, but little bending stiffness. The design procedure of membrane structures are needed to do shape finding, stress-deformation analysis and cutting pattern generation. In shape finding, membrane structures are unstable structures initially. These soft structures need to be introduced initial stresses because of its initial unstable state, and happen large deformation phenomenon. Therefore, in this study, to find the structural shape after large deformation caused by initial stress, we need the shape analysis considering geometric nonlinear term. And we investigate the evaluation of shape analysis technique's convergence and efficiency according to the control method

  • Domestic photovoltaic system for roof-top is installed towards the south at an angle of 20 to 35 degrees and the shape of PV array is divided into two kinds; a plane shape and a curved shape. This paper aims to understand an actual condition of PV facility and strengths and weaknesses of support structure production and installation and to consider the best PV surface shape by analyzing theoretical logics of these two surface shapes and architectural perspective-based realistic case studies. This study targeted 98 facilities including common houses, public institutions and education institutions. In common houses, all of 59 PV facilities have a plane surface. In public institutions, 7 of 15 PV facilities have a curved array surface and 8 PV facilities have a plane surface. In education institutions, also, 14 of 24 PV facilities have a plane array surface and 10 PV facilities have a curved surface. Most of 98 facilities have a flat roof supporting shape. However, it was found that the curved shape wasn't positive for PV generation due to the change of radial density and it was at least 10 % more expensive to produce its structure. Also, domestic general large single-plate PV facilities have problems of harmony with buildings and wind load. Therefore, it is considered that for fixed-type roof-top PV, a plane PV array shape is good for optimum generation and economic efficiency and a parallel array structure on the roof surface is favorable to wind load and snow load without being a hindrance to the building facade.

  • Thermoelectric generator (TEG) generally do not have high heat conversion efficiencies. The performance of a thermoelectric generator module depends on the shape of the legs as well as the properties of the material and the number of legs. In this study, the leg shapes of thermoelectric elements are modeled into various geometric structures such as cylinder and cube shaped to efficiently harvest waste heat, and the electrical characteristics are compared numerically. The temperature gradient and power generation according to the bridge shape are found to be highest at the existing Cube shape. As a result of comparing the power generation using the cooling effect, the Cone shape was the highest in natural convection and the Hourglass shape was highest in forced convection. Research results confirm that geometry can affect the efficiency of thermoelectric generators.

  • This paper proposes a method of support-generation using morphological image processing instead of geometric calculations. The geometric computational cost is dependent on the shape, but our method is independent on the shape. For obtaining the external support area for extrusion shape, we represents morphological operations between two sliced layer images and shows results of each operation stages. Internal support area is evaluated from erosion and opening operations with the sliced-layer image. In these support areas, the supporter image is generated using the designed support structures. Also, we made a DLP printer and the STL model included supporter-structure is printed by the DLP printer. We confirmed the necessity of support-generation method with the support structures individually dependent on materials by looking at the printed results.

  • This paper presents shape design, surface construction, and cutting path generation for the surface of marine ship propeller blades. A propeller blade should be designed to satisfy performance constraints that include operational speed which impacts rotations per minutes, stresses related to deliverable horst power, and the major length of the marine ship which impacts the blade size and shape characteristics. Primary decision variables that affect efficiency in the design of a marine ship propeller blade are the blade diameter and the expanded area ratio. The blade design resulting from these performance constraints typically consists of sculptured surfaces requiring four or five axis contoured machining. In this approach a standard blade geometry description consisting of blade sections with offset nominal points recorded in an offset table is used. From this table the composite Bezier surface geometry of the blade is created. The control vertices of the Hazier surface patches are determined using a chord length fitting procedure from tile offset table data. Cutter contact points and path intervals are calculated to minimize travel distance and production time while maintaining a cusp height within tolerance limits. Long path intervals typically generate short tool paths at the expense of increased however cusp height. Likewise, a minimal tool path results in a shorter production time. Cutting errors including gouging and under-cut, which are common errors in machining sculptured surfaces, are also identified for both convex and concave surfaces. Propeller blade geometry is conducive to gouging. The result is a minimal error free cutting path for machining propeller blades for marine ships.

  • In the process of finite element analysis, mesh generation is tedious job which consumes tremendous time. Therefore, the automation of well shaped mesh generation from the minimal boundary input data is desirable to improve reliability and accuracy of the analysis and also to reduce the process time of the entire design process. The automation of triangular mesh generation has been relatively well treated due to its robustness and ease of handling when compared to rectangular element mesh generation. In this study, the offset method developed previously for generating plane rectangular element mesh has been corrected and modified to generate triangular element mesh on the B-spline surface having arbitrary holes. The result shows that the generated triangular mesh has the average aspect ratio over 0.9. The designed arbitrary surface shape has been interactively constructed by non-uniform B-spline theory for triangular mesh generation.

  • In this paper presents comparison of performance of flexible solar cells construction applied to curtain walls. The proposed paper compares power generation for curtain walls of various shapes using flexible PV. Through the comparison of performance, the power generation was compared by installing various types of flexible PV on the air layer of double windows. By comparing the measured power generation, it is possible to find an optimal flexible PV shape that can be applied to a curtain wall. Flexible PV installation was divided into diagonal, S and W shapes. As a result of comparison, the amount of power generation when there was no flexure of flexible PV was large. Also, as the angle with the light source increased, the power generation decreased. Therefore, it is necessary to study the structure which can fix the PV more than the flexible PV and to be able to direct the sun without distortion.
