A complete dome structure is based on a basic dome modeling, and the basic dome modeling affects safety of the dome structure. In other to save the manufacture expenses, an optimum shape modeling of a dome structure is necessary work of before manufacture of the dome. In this study, modeling of the triangle optimum shape in the surface of an aluminum dome is more focused to optimize shape of the dome and save manufacture expenses. After being made the systematic procedure of the basic modeling, the programming work of the procedure is performed. The program is made by C language, and the trust of the program is proved by comparison between output data of the program and basic modeling in PATRAN.

It is very important to design the shape of container in HIPing process since the final shape and relative density distribution of the product are decisively dependent on the shape of container. A derivative based approach to determine the shape of container in HIPing process is presented. In this approach the optimal design problem is formulated on the basis of the finite element process. The process model the formulation for process optimal design and the schemes for the evaluation of the design sensitivity and an iterative procedure for optimization are described. In comparison with finite difference scheme the validity of the schemes for the evaluation of the design sensitivity is examined.
The corpus callosum is the largest connective structure in the brain, and its shape and size are correlated to sex, age, brain growth and degeneration, handedness, musical ability, and neurological diseases. Manually segmenting the corpus callosum from brain magnetic resonance (MR) image is time consuming, error prone, and operator dependent. In this paper, two semi-automatic segmentation methods are present: the active contour model-based approach and the active shape model-based approach. We tested these methods on an MR image of the human brain and found that the active contour approach had better segmentation accuracy but was slower than the active shape approach.

This study proposes technology using Active Shape Model to track the object separating it by depth-sensors. Unlike the common visual camera, the depth-sensor is not affected by the intensity of illumination, and therefore a more robust object can be extracted. The proposed algorithm removes the horizontal component from the information of the initial depth map and separates the object using the vertical component. In addition, it is also a more efficient morphology, and labeling to perform image correction and object extraction. By applying Active Shape Model to the information of an extracted object, it can track the object more robustly. Active Shape Model has a robust feature-to-object occlusion phenomenon. In comparison to visual camera-based object tracking algorithms, the proposed technology, using the existing depth of the sensor, is more efficient and robust at object tracking. Experimental results, show that the proposed ASM-based algorithm using depth sensor can robustly track objects in real-time.
In this paper, the three-dimensional finite element model is established to investigate the structural dynamic characteristics of rotor blade using a finite element analysis. Six natural frequencies and mode shapes are calculated by computer simulation. The first three flapping modal frequencies, the first two lead-lag modal frequencies, and the first feathering modal frequency are validated through comparison with the modal test results of the fixed rotor blade. The computer simulation results are found in good agreement with experimentally measured natural frequencies. The important results are obtained as follows: (1) Natural frequencies are changed due to the variation of rotational speed and fiber angle of rotor blade, (2) Weak coupling between flapping mode shape and lead-lag mode shape are detected, (3) Centrifugal force has more effect on flapping modal frequency than lead-lag modal frequency.

Most yacht sails are made of thin fabric, and they have a cambered shape to generate lift force; however, their shape can be easily deformed by wind pressure. Deformation of the sail shape changes the flow characteristics over the sail, which in turn further deforms the sail shape. Therefore, fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis is applied for the precise evaluation or optimization of the sail design. In this study, fluid flow analyses are performed for the main sail of a 30-foot yacht, and the results are applied to loading conditions for structural analyses. By applying the supporting forces from the rig, such as the mast and boom-end outhaul, as boundary conditions for structural analysis, the deformed sail shape is identified. Both the flow analyses and the structural analyses are iteratively carried out for the deformed sail shape. A comparison of the flow characteristics and surface pressures over the deformed sail shape with those over the initial shape shows that a considerable difference exists between the two and that FSI analysis is suitable for application to sail design.
In this study of age differences in the correct judgment of relative size and size comparison strategies, 114 three-, four-, and five-year-old children were asked to judge the relative size of 2 figures. Findings were that older children judged size comparison more correctly than younger children. The 5-year-old children used the strategy of superimposition more frequently than younger children, though children in all age groups most frequently used the strategy of one sided comparison with one side of each figure touching the other. The strategy in which one figure is put on top another with a general shape adjustment led most frequently to correct judgment of the relative size of 2 figures.
The stiffness of shape memory alloy (SMA) spring while in actuation is represented by an empirical model that is derived from the logistic differential equation. This model correlates the stiffness to the alloy temperature and the functionality of SMA spring as active variable stiffness actuator (VSA) is analyzed based on factors that are the input conditions (activation current, duty cycle and excitation frequency) and operating conditions (pre-stress and mechanical connection). The model parameters are estimated by adopting the nonlinear least square method, henceforth, the model is validated experimentally. The average correlation factor of 0.95 between the model response and experimental results validates the proposed model. In furtherance, the justification is augmented from the comparison with existing stiffness models (logistic curve model and polynomial model). The important distinction from several observations regarding the comparison of the model prediction with the experimental states that it is more superior, flexible and adaptable than the existing. The nature of stiffness variation in the SMA spring is assessed also from the Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analysis (DMTA), which as well proves the proposal. This model advances the ability to use SMA integrated mechanism for enhanced variable stiffness actuation. The investigation proves that the stiffness of SMA spring may be altered under controlled conditions.
The importance of fast neutron detection for nuclear safeguards purposes has increased due to its potential advantages such as reasonable cost and higher precision for larger sample masses of nuclear materials. Pulse-shape discrimination (PSD) is inevitably used to discriminate neutron- and gamma-ray- induced signals from organic scintillators of very high gamma sensitivity. The light output (LO) threshold corresponding to several MeV of recoiled proton energy could be necessary to achieve fine PSD performance. However, this leads to neutron count losses and possible distortion of results obtained by neutron multiplicity counting (NMC)-based nuclear material accountancy (NMA). Moreover, conventional PSD techniques are not effective for counting of neutrons in a high-gamma-ray environment, even under a sufficiently high LO threshold. In the present work, PSD performance (figure-of-merit, FOM) according to LO bands was confirmed using a conventional charge comparison method (CCM) and compared with results obtained by convolution neural network (CNN)-based PSD algorithms. Also, it was attempted, for the first time ever, to reject fake neutron signals from distorted PSD regions where neutron-induced signals are normally detected. The overall results indicated that higher neutron detection efficiency with better accuracy could be achieved via CNN-based PSD algorithms.

This study analyzes the foot shape of female high school students using 3D foot scan data based on a comparison with adult women (20s'-30s'). Data were collected from the foot anthropometry of 199 female high school students in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do. The right foot was measured indirectly by 3D laser scanner. There are 16 items in the foot anthropometric measurements. The $6^{th}$ Size Korea (measured by 3D scan data) is used for women's foot data. The results of the 3D measurements data investigation show that the foot length and foot width became longer and wider as the age increased. It is classified by three types after analyzing foot shape. Type 1 (28.1%) represented the shortest foot length, the narrowest foot width as well as the thick foot and long ankle shape. Type 2 (4.3%) represented the wide foot width such as the wide lateral ball width and semi-thickness shape. Type 3 (67.7%) referred to the widest foot width, flat foot and short ankle shape.
